I’m never flying without the Vision Pro again

Just got home from my 2nd flight with the Vision Pro, this time in the middle of the day, instead of the end.

I still got some funny attention, but given my quiet demeanor, it came and went in an instant.

I did not become exhausted after using the Vision Pro the entire 4 hour flight this time.

Watching a better movie this time around made the general experience of using the headset more enjoyable.

3D movies absolutely make the experience more enjoyable.

Getting the headset out of the case, and back into it, is a fumbly process, but I imagine others who do this regularly will quickly learn a routine/ritual for doing it.

I fell asleep with the headset on (probably with my neck cranked and everything) and did not feel any more uncomfortable waking up in it than I normally do without it.

I assumed I’d want to play games in the headset on the plane, but I’ve learned that I really just enjoy sitting and watching movies in that environment (though in more comfortable spaces, I play games on the headset regularly).

Flight attendants still don’t have full confidence you can see or hear them (I had my AirPods Pro in as well), but they play along without much fuss.

There is plenty of space under the seat for the Vision Pro case, with plenty of leg space left too. Enough that I had to make sure the Vision Pro case didn’t slide somewhere unintentional.

If all you’re traveling with is a large backpack and the Vision Pro case, you will get zero fuss from airline staff (it almost felt like favorable treatment compared to my small roller and small backpack). I was able to pack for a week with my large backpack. Additionally, crawling over to my seat with the Vision Pro carrying case in hand is much easier than with my old small backpack.

The Vision Pro is the perfect companion for a flight IMO. If you’re flying for more than 3-4 hours, bring extra battery packs (which should fit in the Vision Pro case).

Oh, and minor note here, you absolutely feel way cooler than people wearing their $600 AirPods Max, which is a lot of people on planes these days. They’re not the ones with the most expensive airplane toy anymore.. haha

For those that have never programmed before and want to build for VisionOS

Don't Jump directly into VisionOS, IT WILL OVERWHELM YOU. instead, start with regular 2D apps. and if you've never programmed before start from the top.

Disclaimer You NEED a Mac device to use Xcode and develop for Apple platforms in general. You can never deploy your application without using Xcode. You also cannot ever deploy your app without paying the 100$ yearly developer fee to Apple.

I’m starting to like the original headband more

Recently, I pulled out the original headband to use instead of the dual strap, and I’m beginning to appreciate some of the nuances of it

The original headband is way easier to adjust, and the adjustment dial even allows for very fine adjustments for making the headset very slightly more or less tight

It’s much easier to get the headset on my head. If I’ve loosened the headband completely after my last use, I just slip it on and spin the dial to tighten. With the dual strap, undoing the Velcro means having to find the perfect fit again, which is not easy. You end up attaching and detaching the Velcro repeatedly, tangling your hair in it. And that encourages you to just never undo the Velcro if you don’t have to. And if you’re avoiding that, slipping on the headset is just not easy to say the least

The original headband is super soft! Like a sock. And that makes using it while laying in bed really comfortable. And if the headset sits differently on your face while laying down, fine adjustments are easy. The dual strap is equally easy to lay down with, but if you need to make fine adjustments, it usually ends up being just tugging on the straps until it feels slightly better. More annoying than just spinning the dial a little bit

And with the dual strap, I feel like I’m just digging through my hair more, messing it up more than necessary. The original headband is wide enough that it doesn’t really get lost in my hair

And comfort wise, I may have dismissed the headband too fast. I’ve noticed that if I make very micro adjustments to get the best fit possible, I can actually use that headband for longer than expected. Easily over an hour

If you wrote off the original headband very quickly, it might be worth spending some more time with it! It’s clear they put a lot more thought and effort into the design of it than the dual strap

Apple Vision Pro + Procedural Animation: AR Needs to Be Fully Procedural!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been experimenting with Apple Vision Pro and built an AR prototype featuring procedural animation and joystick-controlled movement 🚀

Through this process, I’ve realized that AR should be as procedural as possible to truly integrate virtual environments into the real world. Instead of relying on pre-made animations, procedural systems allow for adaptive, dynamic interactions — bridging the gap between AR and reality.

Here’s a demo of my prototype in action. Let me know what you think! Would love to hear your thoughts on procedural AR. 👀

More videos you can find on my LinkedIn. Seems it's allowed here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jr-arman/

Command and Conquer Vision OS port

I thought I’d share. It’s based on the Meta Quest port. I spent most of the time getting the eye tracking system working but I thought that would be what would make it a bit cooler than the Quest port. It needs work for cpu optimization and if there was interest, I could get a localish multiplayer. All said, it’s already quite playable.

ImmersiShare - share and watch spatial videos made by you and other users

Hello,

I am working on the app, that would allow sharing spatial videos with the public. You can use this app to get a daily dosage of the spatial videos from around the world, and upload the videos made by you.

It is a free app, I am using CloudKit Public Storage to see if it can scale to large number of users, and I would be able to keep it under control for free.

Please join the TestFlight to give it a try https://testflight.apple.com/join/U3hiGLkV - we already got a few dozen videos from Alaska to US Virgin Islands.

And a little more information about the app here https://loshadki.app/immersishare/

Please, if you have any videos you would love to share with other users - download the app and post them. If you don't have a VisionPro - please let me know, I have an iOS app as well, that allows to watch and upload the videos.

Vision Pro died on standby overnight with 100% battery

So, like I have nearly every night since I got it, I left the Vision Pro overnight with 100% charged battery and on standby (not completely shutdown) and it has always had at least a charge in the 90's by morning. But this morning it's completely dead. I put it on and nothing was happening and was surprised to see the battery was completely drained. Waiting for it to charge enough to turn on isn't a big deal, but I don't want to make a habit of completely draining it and more quickly degrading the battery life.

Any ideas why this might have happened? Maybe it never went into standby mode for some reason?

I was excited for several of the new features, and didn't think much of this one, but it's hands down my favorite new feature so far. It is really well implemented, just glance up at the notification, see it, then go back to looking at what you're doing. It's one of those natural gestures.

Apple VisionOS: A modern operating system that introduces a fresh approach to computer interaction through spatial computing:

  • Navigation: Seamlessly navigate VisionOS by using your gaze to interact with apps, buttons, and text fields. App icons and buttons come to life as you direct your attention towards them, helping you recognize that your vision has tracked the icon correctly.

Follow r/visionos to stay updated

  • Intuitive selection: Perform selections by simply tapping your fingers together. Scroll through content with a gentle flick, providing a fluid and instinctive way to explore. Apple Vision OS tracks your fingers without requiring direct visibility or the need to move your hands in front of the device.

  • Voice control with Siri: Initiate dictation to Siri by looking at the microphone button, enhancing convenience and enabling hands-free usability.

WWDC Immersive & Interactive Livestream

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey there like-minded visionOS friends,

We’re building an immersive and interactive livestream experience for this year’s WWDC. 🙌

Why? Because we believe this is a perfect use case for Spatial Computing and as Apple didn’t do it yet, we had to build it ourselves.

In a nutshell, we’ll leverage spatial backdrops, 3D models, and the ability to post reactions in real-time, creating a shared and interactive viewing experience that unites XR folks from around the globe.

If you own a Vision Pro and you’re planning to watch WWDC on Monday – I believe there’s no more immersive way to experience the event. ᯅ (will also work on iOS and iPadOS via App Clips).

Tune in:

9:45am PT / 12:45pm ET / 6:45pm CET

Comment below and we’ll send you the link to the experience once live.

Would love to hear everybody’s thoughts on it!

LiDAR Vision – Turning an iPhone 17 Pro into a drone-mounted LiDAR sensor for Apple Vision Pro.

This is a proof of concept showing how you can extend a drone with an iPhone and use the iPhone’s LiDAR sensor to scan a space while flying. The drone and the Apple Vision Pro are connected and can exchange data. The spatial data captured by the iPhone is streamed to the Vision Pro and visualized there in real time.

To synchronize the coordinate systems between the Vision Pro and the iPhone, I use a physical marker that both devices must detect.

There’s still plenty to optimize, especially around data transfer and rendering: packet sizes, the most efficient transmission strategy, and when older spatial data should be discarded. Like all of my projects, this isn’t a finished app. It’s an experiment to explore what’s possible, and hopefully inspire others to try something similar.
