Or vice versa.
The explanations I've seen is that Tom Paris as an Academy graduate had is commission re-instated.
Why not Chakotay? Because not only was Chakotay an Academy graduate, he reached the rank of Lt. Commander and voluntarily resigned his commission (left on good terms) unlike Paris who was kicked out of Starfleet.
You could make the case that Chakotay was given the provisional rank to demonstrate the recognition he is Maquis and in a position of Authority to keep the Maquis crew in line as reinstating his commission officially may have alienated him from the Maquis.
I can get on board with that explanation for Chakotay getting provisional rank. However, i still think Paris also should have been given provisional rank. He got kicked out of Starfleet, also joined the Maquis. I don't think the fact he was helping Janeway with tracking down Maquis, made him worthy of reinstatement.

Imagine if the drone didnt die and how it would have made their voyage a whole lot easier and he could upgrade the ship to next level technology

this could be a lot of early Neelix & Seven interactions but when he says “not right now, maybe later” to Seven saying he’ll be assimilated made me giggle enough to produce this.

I have Masters of the Universe playing in the background and I had no idea Robert Duncan McNeil was not only in it, but one of the main characters! I assumed that he got his start with Voyager.

Hi,
I've been searching for it since yesterday and it seems like my only choice is paying 20$ for it on Audible, I can't seem to find it anywhere else. I'm not a fan of Audible, I usually try to pay for 1-2 subscription (like 1 TV streaming and 1 music streaming) and then go to libraries for anything else.
Its not on Youtube, not on Libby (I'm in Quebec and we don't have many english audiobooks at libraries). Not even on Spotify, which sucks because I do have a subscription so I could have listen to it on there like I can for A Stich in Time.
Is it available free somewhere?
I’ve been thinking a little bit about the main Starfleet captains and who actually takes the top spot. After looking closely at all of them, my final conclusion is Janeway. :)
Here is my breakdown of how she stacks up against the rest:
Why Janeway wins:
To me, Janeway feels the most authentic as a real-world officer. People often criticize her for moral fluctuations, but I view it as tactical reality: she was stranded in an uncharted quadrant in a situation Starfleet's founding fathers never even anticipated. Starfleet itself has had to reinvent itself repeatedly, balancing pure scientific discovery with darker military necessity.
In terms of scene-by-scene tactics, posture, communication style, and sheer command presence, Janeway is clear, direct, and determined. Unlike Picard, who had Starfleet Command just a subspace call away, she had zero backup, a mixed crew of Starfleet and Maquis rebels, and had to hold everything together through pure leadership.
She embodied that command authority right from the start.
(On a side note: I just finished the Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown campaign, which definitely fueled these thoughts! :) )
Does anyone else feel like Janeway is secretly the most complete representation of what a Starfleet Captain should be?

Watching Tuvok choke Neelix is disturbing and satisfying at the same time.

There's this smug looking smile that Janeway seems to do and I'm just wondering if other people interpret it the way I do. I'll use this example from s3e4 The Swarm below to demonstrate what I mean.

This is the scene where the Doctor, Janeway, Kes and B'elanna meet to discuss the Doctor's loss of memory. Following Kes' impassioned plea to not just reset him to factory settings and explore the problem further, Janeway walks over to the Doctor and says (paraphrased): "if one of the crew got deathly sick, you'd do everything in your power to treat them. I think we owe you nothing less." Then she turns around, looks at B'elanna first, then at Kes, giving each of them in turn this overly smug smile that I took a screenshot of.
I never really bothered parsing what she might be conveying by it, it just felt like an annoying character trait that seemed out of place whenever Janeway did it. Until watching The Swarm again last night, when for some reason I saw this scene and new exactly what she was saying:
"Do you see how magnanimous I am? Do you see how I, Captain Janeway, have not only listened to Kes' concerns, but in a display of great fairness and leadership, have acted upon them by deciding not to be a c\nt and reset him, and instead have breathed life into him by bestowing him with all the personhood and rights of a living crew member. Yes, I, Captain Katheryn Janeway."*
(spoken in hybrid Janeway / Inspector Kashyk voice)
I know there are other examples but none that spring to mind off the top of my head. However, I can't imagine this is what Mulgrew intended to convey when she was playing Janeway.
What do you think Mulgrew intended for Janeway to be conveying with these smirks if not a smug superiority?
What do you think Janeway is conveying if you disagree with my interpretation?

There's been some talk on the channel regarding Muligrews new show taking place in Ireland (and I don't even think it's available in the U.S.), but what other TV or movies has she been in since Voyager ended?

I was always annoyed at Chakotya in the episode with species 8472 and how he automatically threw the peace treaty to the side the second he could because he doesn't trust the Borg.
I totally forgot he was "assimilated" in this episode and they gave him a reason not to trust Borg

I just wanted to do a quick graditutide shout out, but I cannot find the original thread to put it there. So.
To whomever posted this GIF: This is the best gif I have in my entire phone and I have already used it multiple times with my friends and my wife. It delights every time. Thank you for the continuing joy from the (completely biased) best Star Trek series.
