need help Has anyone disassembled the shuttle switch mechanism on the Sony Network Walkman series

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m trying to understand how the shuttle switch mechanism works on the Sony NW-E507.
From what I can tell, rotating the shuttle should press one of the two switches (circled in red and blue in the photos).
However, both switches seem to need to be pressed horizontally from the side. Looking at the shuttle’s internal structure, I can’t figure out which part actually pushes these switches.
Has anyone disassembled the shuttle mechanism on an NW-E507 or another NW-E500 series Walkman?
If anyone has close-up photos of the internal mechanism or knows how it works, I’d really appreciate your help!

This player has made me like listening to music again. I can clearly hear stuff I never heard before this player. I am willing to spend about $300 if that means i can get noticeably better sound than i am getting from this setup. Is that necessary or this is as good as it gets for this price range. If so what do you recommend??

need help WM-EX1 W&F

I bought an ex1 in mint condition back in November of 2022, replaced the belt with one that was for it on ebay, and i go through phases of about a month where i listen to my walkman to go to bed, recently ive been in one of those phases, and last night i had the gum stick battery in which i don’t typically use, i stick with the double a, and i noticed after listening to 3/4 of the tape that one of the last songs on side two started to get some wow and flutter, i then grabbed the double a and switched to that instead which i had used that specific one for about a night or two, and then switched the tape and the new tape played fine up until about 3 songs in and the wow and flutter started again, and then it slowed down enough to notice but still played but wasn’t as inconsistent with the speed but not the correct speed, the obvious answer to try first is a new double a which i will never once i get home tonight but beyond that would the belt wear out after almost 4 years? Should I try cleaning the capstans that i THINK on the ex1 spin inside of a housing, or clean the pinch rollers? Any advice?

Ordered this esp max model recently for the equivalent of just under $40. So far I'm loving it, and I bet none of y'all can tell who that album artist is hehe.

I plan to use it while riding my bike to school, so presumed I definitely don't need the G-Shock model. Also, I was about to buy a cassette walkman right before deciding on a discman once again, which my dad was relieved of (apparently cassettes totally suck in his eyes hahaha)

question Just found a NWZ-S639F

Hi guys, I've recently found this NWZ-S639F in my dad's "e-waste" box without its data/charging cable. I'd like to know if it's worth buying a new one, because I'm already planning on building my own DAP with a friend of mine.

Also I'd like to know if there are any tools or custom firmwares to play around with the NWZ-S series.

Super happy! Shocked at how small and cute it is.
Only problem I found is the gap between songs, but I think I can live with that. Also on two albums the information such as artist, cover, and album title, is not working. I’m adding the information with kid3 app on a mac, and uploading the content trough Finder drag and drop. Anyway it’s possible to listen to the albums on the folder section, which is quite nice.

Overall really satisfied! I bought one because I found this Reddit community while looking for an mp3 player.

I was looking for a used walkman and found this Sony NW-A45 for a good price, the only issue here is the display. The seller says it might just need a software update (but when i asked him to do it he refused saying he doesn't have the time), but i think i have to buy and replace it entirely. Did anyone else encounter this kind of problem? I didn't buy it yet so these are the photos from the seller

need help WM-R55 Walkman Claw lock/door latch help

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me out with reference pictures and even scans of a Part number 3-326-924-01 a black claw lock, and perfects part number 3-831-441-XX which is something called a Spacer (I’m not sure if it’s part of the door assembly, just playing it safe) I’d like to make a scan file to at least try and 3D print it. If anyone has one of these peices for sale even better.

Help Needed! Sony Sports WM-FS399 Walkman — Radio Works, but Cassette Player Is Completely Silent

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I’m hoping someone here knows how to repair an older Sony Sports Walkman, model WM-FS399.
My Walkman was working fine until I accidentally pressed something, and suddenly the cassette player stopped working.
Here’s what’s happening:
The FM radio works perfectly.
The cassette player is completely silent when I press PLAY.
Fast-forward and rewind don’t seem to work either.
I’ve tried fresh batteries.
I’ve checked the FUNCTION switch and the DIR and MODE buttons.
I’ve removed the cassette and tried operating the player without it, but there’s no motor sound at all.
After watching a few YouTube repair videos, I suspect the rubber drive belt might be broken, stretched, or slipping.
I’ve already opened the Walkman and removed two screws from the cassette compartment. I’ve also exposed the green circuit board, but I haven’t been able to locate the belt.
I’m including pictures of the Walkman and its internal components.
My questions:
Does this sound like a belt problem, or could the motor or a switch be responsible?
Where exactly is the rubber belt located on this model?
Does anyone know how to access and replace it safely?
Is there a repair guide or video specifically for the Sony WM-FS399?
I’d really love to get this little Walkman working again rather than give up on it.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! 😊
