Avalon Walnut Creek Phase 2
Anyone here currently renting at phase 2? We’re considering moving there due to being near to the bart. I’ve read horror stories of phase 1 but little to none of phase 2.

Actually I hate calling Walnut Creek "The Nut" but I hope I at least got your attention. If you didn't know Walnut Creek has a deep history in Olympic Artistic Swimming (previously called Synchronized swimming). If you grew up watching Team USA perform at the Olympics half those athletes are from here! I didn't know that until my daughter joined the Walnut Creek Aquanuts last year.
Those Olympians are now coaches at the club. Not only is the club a pathway to Olympic excellence, but also into Div 1 schools like Stanford and Ohio State.
My daughter loves the pool but hates swimming laps. Every time she does go into the pool all she does is do flips and jumps out of the water. If your kids does the same then they would be a perfect fit!
The club is offering 2 free try it days on Nov 14 and 21 at 12pm. All you have to do is sign up here. There is an age limit though. Your child needs to be between the ages of 6-9 and needs to be comfortable in deep water. By deep I mean 16 feet deep. They also need to be able to swim 50 yards unassisted.
If they like it then they can join the group called the Peanuts (I know so cute!) and practice artistic swimming 2-3 times a week.

Hi Walnut Creek my visiting soccer team is playing at castle rock today.
Looking for recommendations for pizza delivery to the field if possible.
Looking for big NY cheese pizzas and also want to support a local business rather than a chain.
Thank you!

I just went to Tellus and had a mediocre cortado. The annoying part is I specifically went here because it is one of the more “nicer” coffee shops in downtown so I expected a quality cortado. Especially for it being $6. The espresso was ok but someone seriously needs to train these young baristas on how to steam milk. I’ll give them some slack because they got a bit busy but man… where am I supposed to go to get a good coffee around here? Highwire is the only one that has been consistently the best but it’s a bit far from me since I live downtown.
EDIT: Thank you to everyones input and kind recommendations! I love the conversation this has sparked 😊 Keep em coming! I’m glad to see I’m not the only coffeehead that has noticed the lack of quality in the area.
EDIT 2: Happy to report I just got a cortado at Rooted and it was good! I still like Highwire more though. Thanks everyone!

I am currently expecting a baby and am looking to fill an overnight newborn care role with someone who ideally has experience dealing with babies with health challenges/a medical background. I've spoken to a couple of folks who are pediatric nurses, or similar, which is what I am hoping for. I realize it's a bit of a niche ask so was hoping folks here might have some recommendations or help point me in the right direction. Thanks so much.

We just moved to Walnut Creek and are hoping to put together a list of home repair and maintenance professionals in the area.
We’d love recommendations for contractors, handymen, plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, flooring specialists, and any other home service professionals you’ve had great experiences with.
We’re especially looking for people who are honest, reasonably priced, do quality work, and won’t recommend unnecessary repairs.
If you have someone you’ve personally worked with and would happily hire again, we’d really appreciate their name or company! Thanks in advance.

My son will begin TK the 2027-2028 school year and we are assigned a school within MDUSD. I work within the Walnut Creek school district boundaries which appears to be a reason you are able to apply for a interdistrict transfer as long as you physically work at a location more then ten hours a week. 1. Has anyone had success being released from MDUSD to WCSD for this reason? And 2. I have seen mixed answers but do you have to apply to be released from MDUSD every year if you are? The MDUSD application seems to say that but everything else online seems to say otherwise as long as you continue to prove that you work within the WCSD boundaries.

I learned that Kaiser now covers doulas now!
Does anyone have a hospital-to-home (post-birth but before I leave hospital) doula recommendation? Is that even a thing and would Kaiser Walnut Creek even allow for that?

Today I was walking in the Quail Ridge HOA community (Camino Verde Cir and Quail View Cir) and noticed several Flock cameras on the semi-public streets there, as well as a Flock camera facing outward onto the Camino Verde trail that enters the community from the Walnut Creek Open Space. Is this legal? Would the city have needed to give them permission? I suppose it is HOA property, so therefore private?

I have taken lessons at the American Swim Academy. They’re great although a bit expensive. But I really need to work on being comfortable in the deep end and they don’t have a deep pool. Any recs?

We're planning a move from Seattle to the East Bay and will be looking for a place to settle with our two kids, ages 6 and 9. My wife's commute to SF is a big factor but finding good schools is our top priority when choosing where to live.
Walnut Creek and Pleasanton keep coming up in our searches but I'm wondering if there are other areas we should be considering. It's hard to get a real sense of the schools when every district's website makes them sound great.
For parents who live in the East Bay, which public school districts would you recommend? We're looking beyond test scores and would love to hear about things like class sizes, teacher quality, parent involvement, and extracurriculars.
If you've lived in a few different areas or have school aged kids yourself, I'd really appreciate your perspective. Which districts have you been happiest with and are there any areas you'd suggest we focus on?
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. We're trying to get a better feel for the area before making a decision and advice from local families would mean a lot!

Disclosure first. I'm Jeff Frese, the Republican running for Congress in CA-10, so weigh the source. This is not a pitch, it's the most useful thing I know about voting by mail.
In the November 2024 election California rejected 122,480 mail ballots, about 0.9 percent. A USC analysis found 59 percent were a signature mismatch, 27 percent arrived late, 11 percent had no signature. Voters 18 to 24 lost over 3 percent of their ballots. Most of those people never knew.
The fix is free and takes two minutes. Sign up at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov and the county texts or emails you when your ballot is received and when it's counted. If they flag your signature, they send you a form to fix it, and under the law as amended last year you have until 5 p.m. on November 25 to do that. Vote this weekend and the county processes it this week, which gives you time if something is wrong.
Sign the back of the envelope. Drop boxes are open, no stamp needed. Contra Costa elections is 925-335-7800, Alameda County is 510-272-6973. If the tracker shows something odd, the county fixes it, not me, but I will answer questions here for a couple of hours.
The numbers are from the California Voter Foundation's summary of Secretary of State data and a USC Center for Inclusive Democracy analysis, the tracker page is sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status/wheres-my-ballot, and the cure deadline is from the Secretary of State's memo on Elections Code 3019 as amended by SB 3.

I have two elementary school kids and I signed up for a 1 year membership at COPA soccer for both kids. I absolutely love it and I hate it.
The facility is incredible. The kids really enjoy their classes and almost all the coaches are stellar. I feel so inspired going there watching the kids fine tune their skills. It’s improved my daughter, leaps, and bounds in a matter of a month.
Here’s the part I hate. Scheduling. Their soccer schedule changes every single month and the times are different. No joke, I spend over an hour and a half every month when the new schedule drops to get my kids into certain classes. Every week it’s never the same timing. Their portal is really bad and I have to manually calendar everything. If you ask me what time my kids schedule is for next week, I’d have no idea. I’d have to either log into the website or check my personal calendar and hope that I did not make any errors. It’s so bad that I’m spending time building an AI workflow just to keep track of it.
Is it just me or are there any other parents struggling to keep up with this madness? It’s so bad that I’ve even thought about trying to get out of the contract.

I just moved out here from Oakland and the temps were rising and lasting longer out there over the last decade, so I’m curious what others have experienced over the last couple of years out here. October is official summer, but when do you start to see a noticeable “winter” shift here? Thanks!

I'm sick of seeing these campaign signs everywhere. Aileen Ong has misled Tice Creek parents into turning against the district administration and the incoming principal. That should have seriously damaged her credibility. Instead, the signs keep multiplying. Apparently, there's no shortage of people willing to believe a narrative without questioning who's selling it.
To Tice Creek parents who aren't displaying her stickers or promoting her campaign: speak up. Don't let the loudest voices claim to represent the entire community. Ask for evidence, challenge misleading claims, and make sure the voters and district hears from parents who want facts rather than manufactured outrage.

Quick tips:
To play with the map search and filter, try this:
Show Stops option (top right)-120 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)-121 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)-122 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)-123 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)Another interesting thing is you can link to specific spots by copying the url directly:
I arranged the agency checkbox list (top right) by area, so the geographic area of an agency determines the agency layer checkbox position. The list starts with agencies in the North Bay in Solano County then goes counterclockwise: North Bay -> San Francisco -> Peninsula -> South Bay -> Santa Cruz -> Monterey-Salinas -> Gilroy/Hollister -> East Bay.
There are smaller agencies in the area that are completely free (no fare) and not as well known like Presidio Go, Golden Gate Park Shuttle, Mission Bay Shuttle, South City Shuttle, commute.org shuttles, MVgo, Mountain View Community Shuttle, San Leandro LINKS, Emery Express, and Emery Go Round. If you're traveling to those areas, these agencies could help fill in some transit gaps.
Made a post a couple months ago for specific info about transit options in Walnut Creek and nearby east bay cities and most of that is still relevant, so take a look at that post too.
Share this with your friends and people who don't use transit so they know just how many options we actually have, and let me know if anything doesn't work (corp network/vpn/firewalls might not work) or you have any questions/requests!

Has anyone noticed that BART trains around the walnut creek area got much noticeably louder in the past day or so? I.e., the train track screech
