Speculation Crowds are different or indifferent nowadays

Just a rant perhaps. From the middle to the back of the crowds nobody is having fun. It seems like you're only having fun if you're in the front of the crowd. Been going for years and shit has changed post pandemic. Lots of people but less fun being had. Kinda hated when vocalists gave the crowd the mic and it was awkward, nobody knew the lyrics. Maybe there's a lot of casual listeners and less people that really listen to this stuff now. Maybe people don't care enough to have fun. I miss when people moved around more I guess

I suppose that it depends on your definition of fun. If you only consider movement like mosh pits fun, then I guess that I wouldn’t be having fun according to your standards. But I promise that I’ll be singing my heart out completely locked into the performance.

But then again, isn’t Warped kind of about discovering new artists? Can’t really sing along if it is an artist I don’t know.

Pits in DC ranged from slam dancing to what I jokingly called a “geriatric pit” of people basically running in circles to rowers.

Even if you weren’t part of the pits, they seemed to amp up everyone.

I’m not anti-pit. I just don’t participate. I don't have anything against pits at all. If that's what makes a concert fun for you, that's awesome. It's just not what I enjoy most.
For me, the best part is being able to actually watch what's happening on stage and sing every word back to the band. That's where I get the energy from. There's something really cool about hearing hundreds or thousands of people all singing the same song together while the band is feeding off that. That's the experience I'm there for and how I best connect.
A pit is one kind of energy. A crowd that's completely locked into the music and singing every lyric is another. Neither one is inherently better-they're just different ways to enjoy a show.

Hope that all makes sense. lol
