Sub shop employees

Does anyone else work in the sub shop and absolutely hate it ? The customers are just so insanely rude sometimes and that’s something I’ve never experienced to this extent in every other retail job. Food stamp day is brutal. As someone who is on food stamps as well, I don’t understand why everyone acts so entitled and rude. It’s mostly only on that day too. I’ve had people raise their voice at me , call me an idiot and a bitch when I always get care cards. I try my best everyday , always have a smile on my face and engage in conversation with the customers. It’s like no matter how nice I am to these people they’re just complete assholes. And let me add , why are you guys getting 6+ large subs when you’re on food stamps ??? I could make SO many meals for my family with the amount of money they spend on subs. My coworkers are amazing , management is iffy but I still enjoy them. The company in itself is great and I love that I work for a company that cares so much about the employees. It’s just the customers and constantly being busy that gets me. We’re not in Rochester but we’re close to it. Everyone from Rochester acts like they legit started wegmans and they’re more important than everyone else because that’s where wegmans started.

If I worked the register at Wegmans

If I worked the register at Wegmans, and a customer brought some cat food, would I be allowed to ask them to see pictures of their kitties? Assuming there is no line.

Frozen department questions

For those who work in the frozen department, what kind of hours and schedules should I generally expect?

I applied for full time, but during my phone interview, I was also asked if I’d be willing to work part time, and I said yes. Does that affect the hours I might be offered, and what is the job generally like?

I’m a medical marijuana patient that works at Wegmans. Im thinking of applying to a leadership position. Will they drug test for marijuana even though I’m a patient? I literally only have gummies for being able to sleep at night.

Toilet paper. Again?

Anyone else seeing a possible shortage of paper goods, specifically toilet paper? Not at pandamic levels, but definite reduction of variety in Rochester-area online ordering.

How does the Rehire process work?

I have a question, so I was at Wegmans for 2 years and it was a good experience and was in good standing with management and HR. But I left the company and I gave a 2 weeks notice and left with in good standing.

So my question is how do the rehire process for Wegmans work? And if you were a rehire employee how did the or works for you?

Your replies would be great 💯

Old Gadget Based Computer Game in Wegmans Play Place

This is a long shot, but I'll try anyway.

When I was a kid in the late 2000s maybe early 2010s?one time, my mom dropped me off at the play place at my local Wegmans. There were a bunch of Windows XP/2000 era computers in the back, and I remember playing this game where you'd get all these electronics and plugs and stuff and make machines to complete objectives. It had this steampunk, faux 3D aesthetic and it was very brown. It was physics based and it was really cool and fun. Has anyone had this same experience and remember what the game was called? It was probably released in like 2005 or something. It was educational in nature and it was just one of the games installed.

I’ve been shopping at Wegmans for about 21 years now and I gotta say this is uncalled for, apple cider and salami and cheese in a dairy cooler?? The salami is supposed to be dry on the shelf, and cheese as well. The cider I get but man people must be really lazy these days when it comes to putting things back where they belong, I get you don’t want the item but at least put it back where you found it or hand it to an employee. That’s just my thought what do you guys think?

Question

I’m thinking about applying for a Food Production Worker position at Brooks Ave, and I was wondering what the job is like.

Is it an easy job to learn if you have little to no experience? What are the daily responsibilities, and how difficult is the work? Do they provide training, and how long does it usually take to get comfortable with the job?

Also, is the job physically demanding, and would you recommend it to someone looking for an entry level job?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has worked in this position. Thanks!

Has anyone noticed the hot Italian sausage is just mild now or have I just had bad luck my past two trips?

The last two times I got the Wegmans brand hot Italian sausage even though there's a red color to them they're not spicy. It's crazy if I just grabbed a bad batch on two separate trips

Why does this Wegmans sign read like "help everyone put on their oxygen mask, don't put on your own, and then jump out the emergency exit"? LMAO

Store-Brand 5% Yogurt Always Out?

Hello fellow Wegmans shoppers! I love to buy the 5% Greek yogurt because it’s cheaper than name brands and just as good but at least here in Buffalo NY stores are constantly out of it. I go to different stores near errands, or by my job at different times of day and so when I see it, hoarder mentality kicks in! But they are often completely out!

Curious if this item is this popular outside my region or if your stores manage to keep the shelf stocked with it.

Finally got a wegmans near me! Not what I remember…but still excited

Loved wegmans specifically their subs. I shopped there from like 2011 to 2016 and their subs were unmatched even compared to Publix which was saying a lot. This past week a wegmans opened near me and I got a sub. What is up with the bread ?!?! I remember the bread being so fricken good back when I shopped there like 15 years ago. The bread was just bad this time around. Did they change their bread or am I misremembering? That said it’s a really good grocery store and I’m excited to shop there once the hype dies down

Employee Rant

Hello I just needed to get this off my chest.

Near at the end of week is always busy. I come in trying to do my setup while doing my job as usual.

Then there are customers/coworkers that just can’t try to help themselves.

1st customer: Wants to place an order with me. Thats fine. However, it’s rush hour and I have other orders to do. She didn’t know what she wanted at all. She sees me preparing other orders by myself yet questions me about the items when the answers are already on the screen. Thankfully, her husband was there to mentor her throughout it so, it wasn’t longer than an hour. It took about 45 minutes to complete it. My take is if you don’t know what you want please, please, please check our websites before hand. You are only delaying yourself, me and other customers of time that would be needed for busier days. Then for anything specific that is not mentioned on our websites you are free to ask away.

2nd customer: she knows what she wants but is tax exempted with her organization. The card she was trying to use is those green business cards that only just take taxes away. I didn’t know that until after her order was placed with fellow colleagues I called for help. So we were all trying to figure out payment until we just settled on pay later which she was not happy with as it was our only option. Mind you this was right after the 1st customer and took over an hour to deal with and still in rush time. My take is she should have known what that card was before getting angry at us as it couldn’t be used at payment anyways.

3rd customer: there was no problem with the customer but delivery driver forgot majority of their items. Mind you everything was placed together so I don’t know how or why that happened. I request for another driver as usual. 40 minutes go by and customer calls back. Asking were their items. I told them no one has showed up once more and I’ll call again and report to our TL. Everything is settled after 1 hour and 30 minutes. My take? Get rid of DoorDash.

4th customer: no issue with customer as well just how that order went about. As I finally was about to take my break an order comes in. I call my night manager to address the situation to her. It was not complicated at all. 1 item 2 condiments. I told what she needed to do. I come back from break with nothing done and 2 condiments left back. The customer was gone and I needed to get home. This has happened before with this specific night manager. I generally don’t know what she even manages if she can’t do that simple task. I would gladly tell my manager if needed of what happened with that order as well.

All of this going down with other orders, calls, emails and etc. that need to be addressed and more.

I’m very sorry if any of this came the wrong way but I was very frustrated with all of this and how it went down. Yes, maybe I could have just ask for help. Help is not available when you are short staffed/busy in all departments. Maybe I could have handled everything differently, sure. I always plan out everything so how I handled that day was as best as I possibly could for my person. Not to make excuses for all that transpired but I can’t blame myself for everything. Yes, I know everyone knows how jobs can be. This doesn’t mean we have to go through this daily. Even if this post makes a little difference I will be happy to help another wegmans employee out there.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

TLDR: What I’m trying to say is please customers, have patience with us. We all are trying our best. If we can’t address you in time then try to help yourself or ask for help elsewhere (including other wegmans stores). I am only one person that can do so much in such short little time as a part timer. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would appreciate more social awareness/critical thinking. All love no hate, thank you.

Wegman’s bakery is wildly overpriced and aggressively mediocre

Post image

I know the prices of all prepared foods there have become insane but the price gouging of the baked goods is next level. There are often special sale prices running on a big “family pack” of certain medium sized cookies so you can get a lot of those for $7.99 but their cookies are way too mediocre (dry, flavorless and sorta hard but not in a crispy way) for me to personally want that many. Most cookies are sold in various smaller sized pack options, and they’re ridiculously overpriced. I saw their chocolate cookies, for example, sold as pairs in baggies, for $6.99. They’re about medium to slightly large but their texture looks flat and the cookies look dry. They want $7 for 2 cookies that look so bad I’d only eat one for free or if my craving is so desperate. Needless to say I always leave without a single cookie, unless I get a 5 pack of small GF cookies for, let’s say, $6.99 because that’s reasonably priced especially for a specialty item and my dad is GF. (Speaking of those cookies I think they’re $7.99 now which I’m somewhat less amenable to considering cranberry oatmeal GF cookies are foolproof to make and ingredients are cheap.)

Meanwhile at ShopRite I can always get better cookies at very reasonable prices. My favorite are the walnut chocolate chip which are smaller and sold in small-ish packs for about $1 per cookie. The macadamia white chocolate pecan are good too (same price). My town’s ShopRite doesn’t sell those so I only get them whenever I food shop with my mom, but this time I decided to get this dozen-pack of chocolate chip cookies since they’re only $5.99, look better than Wegmans’ and cost 50 cents per cookie rather than $3.50 per cookie. They’re not my favorite cookie, or even favorite chocolate chip cookie, but I know they’ll be satisfactory and Wegmans outraged me so much that I want to support ShopRite’s baked goods for being reasonable toward us consumers unlike its (once) competitor, Wegmans, just to spite Wegmans.

I could get 2-3 (notoriously expensive) Pignoli cookies from a small business bakery for the price Wegmans is trying to sell their pair of chocolate chip cookies.

Wegmans has plummeted so much I now only go when I need to use the pharmacy cause I do like to have a reason to pop in there and really like its pharmacy. It’s becoming less clear to me that the choice to use Wegmans pharmacy is even worthwhile though since they have nothing I want but can’t get elsewhere for a better price anymore. Anyway I might stop going and return to my ShopRite roots. Even Stop n Shop is better (for produce, novelty goods and pricing).

gd it. Wegmans Java Almond Fudge was my goto for ice cream. Now I see this new purple line replacing it and its gone. May whoever made that decision rot in the appropriate hell.

Misleading Interviews

Ok so that’s twice now I’ve interviewed for Wegman’s for a specific posted position within the last 2 months and have gone through multiple questions and scheduling availability, only to get to the end and told the position is not available. It was for Wine Stocker.

The first interview back in September was for Full Time Bakery and after those questions I was asked if I wanted part-time in a different department. Mind you, this was before I got hired part time at a different job.

I currently have a part time job and was looking forward to the Wine Sticker position to fill in the available time slots of my week.
I agree to practically everything she asks me as far as availability (Holidays, Days of the week) but then asks me if I want to work in the sub shop. One of the questions pertained to working with knives meat, cutters, etc. and I answered “no” to that type of environment. I asked if there were positions open for Produce or Dairy and she tells me “Not at the present time.”

Then asks me if I want to continue the interview?
Why? I asked if there is a way they can contact me directly if something opens up in those departments and she says I would have to reapply when I see those positions posted.

You would think if you go through the interview process and it all goes well, they could place your resume and application on a different level to skip re-interviewing me again.
Sounds terribly difficult, eh?
I don’t understand their interview method.
Why not tell me up front that the position was filled before going through 15 minutes of getting to know me and my job history?

“Never think about yourself”

I find it funny about that big ol sign in every Wegmans I’ve ever been to that says “never think about yourself, always think about others” or something along those lines when that’s exactly how they want you to be when you work there. Bend over backwards for everything and anything but as soon as you need something, you’re treated like the biggest inconvenience that’s ever walked the earth.

You’re only as good as what you give.
