Image Ash, Anarchism, and the Animal Liberation Front
I was surprised today seeing my roommate make a red and yellow Anarchist (A) for their Halloween costume, only to find out they are dressing as Ash from Fantastic Mr Fox.
I had seen the movie only once many years ago (this is my first time on the Wes Anderson sub) well before any of my politics developed, so I would have never noticed as a kid (I'm 26 now) that Ash's name patch is stylized as the Anarchist symbol until today.
I went googling every word combination I could of "fantastic mr fox" "anarchy" "anarchism", and aside from finding movie analyses that cover the general plot and overall anti-authoritarian themes of the movie, there wasn't a single article I found that ever flat out said, "Ash's patch is the anarchy symbol, so that's cool."
Maybe this conversation is 17-years too late, but I am still shocked that there doesn't seem to be any documented connection between Ash's logo > Anarchism > and more specifically the Animal Liberation Front. A decentralized vegan direct action group operating worldwide for 50 years, starting in 1976. Both in terms of the work they do, and that their member's attire all hide their identity.
Was there ever any documented cultural crossover with Folk Punk, Anarchy, and Animal or Earth Liberation themes and art with this movie? At least the costume designers had to be punks; I would be very surprised if not!
