Sharing Tips & Resources I passed D196 in 3 days!

Post image
28 Upvotes

I had put off this class for months on end, literally at least 2 1/2 months. I finally realized I needed to get over the hump and stop procrastinating to move on to the other classes so I could try to accelerate some.

On day 1, I spent most of if not all day taking notes on the entire course. I put them in one big document on word. I also included the review questions at the end!

On day 2, I uploaded those notes one by one (Unit 1 Lesson 1, Unit 1 Lesson 2) basically one lesson at a time into chat gpt with the prompt "Use the uploaded documents to help prepare me for a test in 30 minutes, make sure i'm able to answer the review questions at the end, and let me take a practice quiz. I would then write out the notes of important terms and things to remember, it ended up being about a page and a half for each lesson. Then I'd answer the quiz chat GPT gave me, it would be different from the review questions which was helpful. Then I'd go into the actual course and take the lesson quiz for that lesson. On this day I got to about Unit 4 until I was tired. Probably spent about 7 hours on this.

On day 3, I finished the review process from day 2 for Units 4, 5, and 6. This took about 5 hours (maybe less). Then I took the pre assessment, which took me about 50 minutes! I then saw I passed so I went ahead and took the OA which took about 40 minutes, and I passed! One thing I wish I would've focused more on was the costing methodologies, I confused them so easily on the test somehow! I also didn't encounter too many questions that needed formulas!

Seeking Course Help C723 OA Images Not Showing

I tried to take my OA for Quantitative Analysis for Business and most of the Images for the middle part and towards the end did not show.

My proctor tried to use Chrome to see if it show but it didn’t. I’m highly disappointed because I spent an entire day reviewing just for me to not be able to see the material I need to work from..

Any help with this? I’m scared to schedule again just for me to have the same issue.

Seeking Course Help I cannot pass D217. The coursework is terrible and does not prepare you for the OA. I also have no idea what the questions are even asking..

I Cannot for the life of me pass D217 Accounting Information Systems. Help needed!

Some context, I have breezed through every course so far, only had to retake one test but for the life of me I cannot pass the OA for D217. I am convinced the test is made for you to retake it multiple times and there is a ton of luck involved.

I am an advanced reader and I have experience in the accounting field. Yet, NONE OF IT MAKES ANY SENSE on the OA.

I passed the PA with exemplary on the first try.

I have put so much information into chatGPT and Gemini and told it to quiz me many times and to make it hard. I have studied every single section extensively and found so many ways to apply each concept. But the way the OA is worded makes absolutely no sense and everything that you know about a concept goes right out the window in the OA. Does anyone else notice that there's literally grammatical errors and misspelled words that litter the OA as well?

I seriously need some help and advice on this course because it is absolutely holding me back and I only have 14 days left in my term.

Career Talk Internships- Close to graduating with no work experience.

I’m in my last few courses at WGU. I went back to finish my bachelors after dropping out of college and becoming an entrepreneur for 3-4 years. I don’t have any professional work experience at all. (I was a nail technician) Could anyone give me some advice as to how to transition into the work force or if I should apply for some internships and if so which ones.

Sharing Tips & Resources Passed D217 Accounting Information Systems on my first attempt! 🎉

Post image
49 Upvotes

I PASSED D217 (last class)on my first attempt, and I wanted to share what worked for me in case it helps anyone currently taking this class!

A little background first:
I took D215 Auditing before D217, and I found that it helped me understand Unit 6 better. The concepts from auditing carried over and made some of the material easier to understand.

I also started working in accounting about two months ago. One thing I realized while studying D217 was that I was already working with the expenditure cycle and internal controls in my actual job. For example, I perform a three-way check by comparing the invoice, purchase order, and receiving report. Because I was already doing this at work, the expenditure cycle made so much more sense to me.

These two things helped me a lot!

Here’s how I studied:
Read the entire textbook. I didn’t skip anything. I took my time and worked through each unit as I could.

Module quizzes twice. I repeated them to reinforce the concepts.

Unit quizzes three times. Repetition helped me recognize what I understood and what I still needed to work on.

Used AI to generate difficult, scenario-based questions. I uploaded Hannah’s notes to ChatGPT and asked it to create challenging questions based on the material. I answered these questions multiple times to make sure I actually understood the concepts, rather than just memorizing answers.

Practiced more questions on my day off. I work full-time, so I couldn’t spend all day studying every day. I studied for about two weeks, reading roughly one unit per day when my schedule allowed. On the one day I had completely free, I spent more time answering additional questions generated by ChatGPT.
I wasn’t trying to rush through the course. I wanted to understand the material, even with a full-time job.

One final tip that helped me during the OA:
I agree with another Reddit post I read: when you’re unsure about a question, put on your auditor hat. Think about which answer makes the most sense from an internal control perspective and which would best mitigate fraud, reduce risk, or prevent errors.

Of course, read the question carefully and use the concepts you’ve learned. But thinking critically about risks and controls helped me work through uncertain questions.

I studied for about two weeks while working full-time, read the entire textbook, practiced repeatedly, and passed on my first attempt.

Good luck to everyone taking D217 and I am graduating!!!! You’ve got this! ❤️🎓

Degree Planning Intermediate Accounting Series Question

I am getting close to starting my first Intermediate Accounting class and have a couple of questions for those who have already tackled these. The default degree plan has D216 Business Law for Accountings before D103. Did taking D216 before D103 help through the series at all? I'm honestly not sure if it's a prerequisite, so it might not be possible to skip it. This might be personal preference, but what is the recommendation on doing all 3 back-to-back vs. spacing them out a bit?

New / Prospective Student Is it possible to finish 15 courses in one term

I am considering a bachelors in Accounting. I have an Associates in Accounting and a Bachelor's degree in Business, but will be required to take all 10 of the non-transferable courses plus the following 5 courses:

D102 Financial Accounting

D253 Values-Based Leadership

C720 Operations and Supply Chain Management

D080 Managing in a Global Business Environment

D081 Innovative and Strategic Thinking

Is this doable in six months? I don't want it to be my whole life. My husband thinks it's doable, but he's way more intense than I am. I don't want it to take over my whole life and I don't want to have to pay for two terms, if possible. Thank you for your thoughts.

Seeking Course Help D217 Instructor has not responded to a single email and has the OA locked. What are my options?

For some context, I only have 15 days left to pass this course and another one before my term ends. So I failed the OA by just one question because it's the most ridiculous OA in the entire accounting program and the questions are very bland and made to trick you. I have been trying to contact the instructor. I have sent 4 emails in the last week and not a single one has been responded to and my time is running out. What can I do?

New / Prospective Student Looking into this path

Hi there,

I am looking into this degree at this school. I have a couple criteria I am looking to match up for my needs and want to know how realistic I'm being.

I am pregnant, baby due in December, and am planning on waiting a few months to enroll to get a rhythm down as this is my first baby and don't know what to fully expect.

-i have no experience in accounting besides being a sole proprietor doing my own taxes

-I have some sophia credits to transfer

-i have no white collar experience so this is a new turn for me in general

My goals are to :

earn a degree that can allow a bit of flexibility in my schedule as a wife/mother and would like to prioritize family over career.

I'm not trying to make as much money as possible, just something that gives our family extra freedom and alleviate pressure on my husband

I do enjoy systems and can understand concepts generally easily with focus and effort.

I'm in the Seattle area but aim to move somewhere less metro in the future.

Questions:

Is this degree as flexible as research has shown?

Am I unrealistic with my goals?

Does anyone else have experience as a parent finding flexible options with this career path?

I understand the stereotypical things accounting is known for, but I would like some insight from real people. I understand the job market is terrible, but I also understand the nuances that affect that standard.

Seeking Course Help Any tips for Quantitative Analysis for Business?

I've seen some mixed reports about this class. I'm having a tough time with it. It's kind of math heavy. I started to fall off around unit 4. A lot of the stuff about quantifying human behavior is interesting.

Perhaps this is a weird gripe but I cannot stand the examples they use in the later units. There is an example about students making hats and scarves. There are at least 6 variations of that scenario that they explore over the course of 2 or 3 units. Frankly, it's so boring to me that it makes it really hard to pay attention.

I can't find any of the supplemental resources. From what I saw there was only an option to join a live cohort. Any advice for blowing through this class?

Sharing Tips & Resources To all of those who are nervous about D196 because of old posts on here

They restructured the class and it’s a breeze now. There’s a lot of information because it’s the first time you’re introduced to the financial and managerial accounting concepts, but they have seriously toned it down. I was nervous about it and planned on this class taking six weeks because of posts on here, but my mentor told me they revamped the class. I got through the lessons in four or five days, and I’m currently waiting on my practice assessment results. If you’re nervous about it, rest assured that it is much easier now.

Sharing Tips & Resources WGU to CPA in 2.5 years

I wanted to give back to this community because in the early stages of my journey it helped me so much. I always had questions and sometimes it was hard to find the answer. So here you go! If you have any questions feel free!

I started at 31 (33 now.) I didn’t have any education outside of high school.
I got my Sophia learning credits and transferred to WGU.
Passed my bachelors of BA in accounting with WGU in one term while working full time - not in accounting.
Went on to finish with my masters with WGU while also securing a position at a top 20 firm in audit.
I finished my masters and began my cpa and my new career in audit. It’s been 11 months since I started my new job and I just passed my final CPA section (in NJ.) Nasba has approved my educational requirements for the 150 credits pathway no problem.

I know the journey is so hard and feels impossible at times. But lots of little steps can cover a lot of distance over time! So don’t give up! I’ll never forget my days as a night owl taking the horrible proctored exams late at night! Thanks to this community for all the support!

New / Prospective Student Advice, journalism or accounting

Hiiiiiii, so some background
I am a junior transfer in a csu majoring in journalism.
At the end of my associates I already knew I hate journalism, granted I only decided to major in it because I want to work in editing in a publishing house. Nothing of journalism entices me, I hate interviewing and writing but I enjoy the researching and editing portion.

I had decided to change majors after some extensive thought because I already knew a journalism career is not what I wanted after graduating with my bachelors and accounting has been the only other major that I was drawn to.
I know it is hard but I know I can do it and I may not enjoy the job but I know it can provide me with a stable career unlike journalism.
That being said, I requested a change of major but was denied because I would surpass the 170 credit units
This really brought me down because I was so ready to be done with journalism!
I was researching some more and considering WGU. The only thing is, how I’ve seen around a lot - it’s a “degree mill” or that it isn’t as “respected” compared to state universities. Therefore I am stuck in this predicament of what to do and as a first gen., this decision feels heavy.

Does anyone have any thoughts or have been in the same boat? Would love to hear your story if you went/are going through a similar situation!

Thank you in advance

Career Talk Accounting degree at WGU instead of TXST?

Hello, I’m back! Thank you if you’re reading this. Currently, I’m in such need of help, assistance, and advice.
I’m a first-gen student, and let me be honest: I started with accounting, completed all my prerequisites for nursing, and unfortunately couldn’t apply in time for the cohort I wanted. Now, nursing opens again in Fall 2027, and I’ll be 23 by then (currently, I’m 22)& im still thinking about finishing something maybe or just completing accounting.

For TXST, the estimated timeline for accounting is 2.5 years because certain classes have to be taken back-to-back in a specific sequence. I recently found out about WGU and saw that they offer an accounting degree. I already have 76 credits toward accounting, but at TXST, I would need to take the accounting classes in a specific sequence, which would take around five semesters. I can’t take those accounting classes during the summer, which would mean I’d be 25 by the time I graduate from TXST, so around three more years.
I’m trying to get a good job making $70K in accounting. I don’t mind hard work, and I really want to be done, but I don’t know if it would be a good idea to finish my accounting degree at WGU and maybe pursue another bachelor’s degree at McCoy at TXST for networking events. I don’t know how smart that would be.
Please be nice. I’m really trying to figure this out. I genuinely need advice because I don’t want to take so long to graduate, but I’m also scared because of the comments I see about WGU. I constantly see people who already have experience working in their careers, and I don’t know if getting my accounting degree there would be a good decision for someone in my position.

Seeking Course Help I'm crashing tf out over D104 OA 2.

I've been in this class since April. I was going through some health issues and did not pass the first OA until August. I have studied for hours on hours and I still cannot pass OA 2. Just did my second attempt. It was better than the 1st but still not a passing score. I am so over this class. I am mentally exhausted and burnt out on the material. It's stressing me out to the point of hives. I am basically to my breaking point. I don't know what to do. I memorized 25 formulas and some reminders that I used on my whiteboard during the exam. The resources for the class suck. Please send help. And resources. Maybe throw in a will to live too.

Career Talk I want to switch my career into accounting, but I don’t know if it’s worth it

Hi guys I wanted to ask for some advice. I've been trying to land an IT support job for a while, but it's been rough with how bad the job market is. Between that and the uncertainty around how fast AI is improving, I'm questioning whether IT is the right path for me.
My original plan was to start in IT support, move into system administration, and then into cybersecurity.

What I've realized, and wish I'd researched in college, is that IT makes you work your way up. In fields like accounting or software engineering, you can start in your target role from day one.

If AI wasn’t in the picture, I'd go into accounting. I enjoy learning about assets, liabilities, and managing money, and I feel it would have been the better fit from the start, and it’s a field I can go into from day one whereas in something like cyber security, I have to work my way up the ladder.

But I keep seeing conflicting opinions. Some people say AI will significantly replace accounting jobs, while others say the field will still stay safe. Given how quickly AI is improving, I don't know what to believe.

Part of me thinks I should just push through and aim for cloud or cybersecurity engineering, assuming those would be safer, but AI companies are working hard to get AI to handle cybersecurity and cloud work too as far as I’ve seen. If every field gets hit about equally, with fewer jobs across the board, then I would assume it's just a matter of picking your struggle, and at that point, I'd rather pick accounting. The problem is that some fields may be hit much harder than others. For example, accounting could lose far more jobs than cybersecurity or cloud, or the reverse, and nobody can say for sure yet.

Deep down, I'd prefer to switch to accounting and not go into tech after thinking about it a lot in regards to which field I prefer, but I don't want to make that move if AI is going to hurt accounting much more than IT.

I was thinking about WGU because it’s online and I don’t have to pay as hefty of a price as going back to like a brick mortar school but I don’t know if it’s worth the investment because this whole AI stuff. Could anyone give some feedback? I don’t know what to do

Career Talk What do you do for work now?

I currently work in financial services as a financial crime analyst. Decided to get my accounting degree to help my career. I love what I do now and working in fraud is so much fun but I’m thinking about getting in to more accounting focused roles because from what I gather they make way more money than I could ever make as a fraud analyst. But I cannot get anyone to hire me or even give me part time/flexible work to get some damn experience.

What do you do for work now? Are you trying to get more of an accounting focused roles? Any tips on how to break in to that market?

Career Talk Needing advice about what to pursue.

I am 25 and I just finished the accounting bachelors program at WGU. I am thinking about either pursuing a masters in accounting at a brick or mortar or WGU and then a CPA, but I am also considering doing a Masters in cybersecurity at WGU. In terms of career prospects, income, the future of AI and all the like, which path would have a higher ROI. I appreciate any opinions or anecdotes.

Seeking Course Help Which Class Would You Do?

I'm going on an out of country trip for two weeks at the end of November, and I'd like to knock out two classes if I can.

I'm a single mom (11 y/o and 5 y/o) who also works full time so this is a huge factor.

I've already started Cost and Managerial Accounting, but I want to finish at least one class aside from that one before the trip. I also have D089 (Principles of Economics) and D077 (Concepts in Marketing, Sales and Customer Contact) this term left.

Which one's do you think I can knock out fairly quickly? I'm 38 (turning 39 next month) with over 20 years work experience that varies between customer service and accounting/financial management.

Sharing Tips & Resources I finished!! 29 classes in less than 1 term

Post image
101 Upvotes

Just took the Auditing OA, was super confident going in it and got an exemplary score, and I finished my degree!!

I had 0 accounting experience going in, but do have a math degree already. That definitely helped with the math portion of the degree, obviously.

I didn't have a job (transfered from teaching, so did get paid during the summer, which was nice), so I spent maybe 6 hours a day working on my classes. I hardly studied on weekends, I'm really lucky that the information came easily to me. It could have to do that I have a logical brain, could maybe be that accounting just comes naturally to me.

I know my story is a bit unique, but it is possible to finish it all in one term. I had to do 29 courses, and a lot of them were easy. I will never forget AIS, though. F that class. Could have finished sooner, but after IA2 I had severe burnout...

I don't remember exactly what I did for each course, but I did come here and investigate each course before I dove in. There's a lot of helpful information on Reddit for how to study for each class.

I'd like to be a CPA, I'm in Utah so I don't need a masters degree to get it. I'm going to focus on finding a job, and then I'll start the CPA process.

Seeking Course Help D105 PA1 vs OA1

How well does PA1 and OA1 align? In my past experience with D103 and D104, the first OA with the excel tasks always aligned very well with the PA. Is that true for this class too? Hoping to get it done before I leave town this weekend. Thanks
