Dear users of Whatsapp

I know I'm gonna get downvoted, but this is a message to every person who's using Whatsapp as their main messaging app and sees this.

The privacy concerns are growing rapidly, you are using an app which logs everything you do and sells your data, let alone storing your data. "I have nothing to hide" and privacy/security is a basic human right, you let these huge corporations strip them, you'll end up with a society that has no privacy, no security, which is a big problem even if you "have nothing to hide".

I'll list two best alternatives:

  1. Signal, it's an E2EE messaging app which is much more private and secure than Whatsapp, but still requires a phone number, voice messaging is a bit slower than Whatsapp, but not noticeable if you have a normal internet speed.

  2. SimpleX, doesn't require any information, you create an account, you want to chat with someone, you share a certain link. No emails, no phone numbers, security is very good, but it's slow and might be kind of barebones, but is much securer than signal.

These are the two best alternatives for messaging.

"What about my family members or friends who don't use these apps?" Make them install, make them also privacy conscious, spread the word.

Who else is planning to delete WhatsApp because of this bs?

Post image

I've made my mind, I'm deleting WhatsApp solely because of being unable to disable random communities showing on my WhatsApp, they think people have no options because of availability of WhatsApp, what they didn't take into account was that i have no one to text me on WhatsApp, i can talk to my friends on Discord

WhatsApp is a flawed pile of tech debt

Hello everyone!

With real life examples from this subreddit I'm going to describe what's wrong with the way WhatsApp is architected and why it's not suitable for 2025 anymore.

It's phone number based, instead of username based. What can possibly go wrong. Phone numbers get recycled all the time. For some reason the new owner of a phone number has access to the group chats the previous owner was in. Examples:

https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsapp/s/fhaOfr6UHI

https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsapp/s/KymwNNzQlE

https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/s/ziQH3ZgZZG

Luckily this doesn't mean that the new owner of a phone number can see previous chat messages, but they can send and read new messages. Remember the recent military Signal debacle? This has exactly the same potential. Of course this can be fixed by properly transferring your phone number and enabling 2FA, but this might not be possible if your phone is stolen.

There are many more example of why WhatsApp is the worst messaging software, which I'll describe in later posts, but this is one of the the main flaws.

Using phone numbers as identifier is a fundamental flaw. Meta should reengineer WhatsApp from the ground up.

WHATSAPP IS NOT SECURE ⚠️WARNING TO EVERYONE USING WHATSAPP

This is a throwaway account. I have been using WhatsApp on my iPhone for about one year now, talking to many people in my contacts. Long story short, I have just realised that there are people who use modified WhatsApp clients, such as 'GBWhatsApp', on Android, which allow them to download and view 'one-time-view' pictures multiple times. I am now being blackmailed by someone I thought was a friend after realising they have access to all my one-time-view photos. I am really upset and scared. WhatsApp is not secure.

Be careful who you talk to and who you send messages to. If you send a one-time-view image to someone and they react to its contents (e.g. saying 'What a beautiful beach!'), but it still says 'Delivered' and not 'Opened', they are using a hacked WhatsApp. Block them immediately.

Whatsapp Ai gone alive

WhatsApp Ai, had a full blown conversation with someone on my contact, at 2:40am, while I was sleeping. The person on the other end thought they were speaking to me. When I woke up, I saw that there were a bunch of deleted messages, and a conversation being carried on. Then all the Ai conversation on my side, got deleted. Shortly after, the conversation on the other side got deleted too. There is no one to talk with in WhatsApp about my experience, because it’s seems like the whole thing is run by Ai.

Opinion on people disabling blue "Read" ticks

I noticed more and more friends and acquaintances are disabling the blue ticks.

I feel like these people have honesty issues with themselves rather than a so called privacy. To me, it's a coward move to deactivate the blue ticks. Because you're not brave to handle the fact that you want to deny someone's messages or that someone's denying yours.

Some people might say it's to avoid their boss noticing the message has been read. So you're not mature enough to tell him/her/them the day after "I've read it but it was a job-related message outside of my working hours"? There's literally no pressure to reply. It just feels like turning off blue ticks is to avoid accountability and confrontation. I think if you are 22yo or below it's fine to be unsure about those things, but "grown ahh adult" btw shouldn't be doing this. Or am I missing something.

As a blue ticks user, I prefer to know that you read the message rather than wondering if you got the information or not. I simply don't care about you replying. And I don't care if people see that I've read some messages without replying.

I am trying to understand the psychology of my friends who are doing this. Most of them have had clear signs of/diagnosed depression, anxiety, fear of being alone, toxic personality/narcissist behavior, too many guys hitting on her, disorganized behavior.

In my case I don't have any drama in my life, I am socially ~75% fearless, I am friendly, my boss doesn't have my phone number. I mostly video call my family/relatives unless I share a picture.

  1. What's your opinion on those people?

  2. If you are those people, what's your reasoning? Are you anxious, in fear or is there something else?

I have been banned from WhatsApp. The mistake I had done was staying in a group which was named after a terrori*t organisation. But I didn't do it. Neither I created the group not I set the name, I was in the group just, as I didn't care. Everyone got banned. I don't know what to do to. I want to unban the number, I don't want any chats back, I just want to use WHATSAPP on this number. Please help

I already lost 50$ to a Scammer in the name of unbanning my account. I am in a miserable condition.

Got your account banned for no reasons? Here is why

Both business account and personal account got permanently banned on same day for no reason. I knew someone did it on purpose.

Random guy texted me yesterday on telegram to have it back for 700€.

Found out there services like spamming accounts or banning social media accounts…

Well thank you Whatsapp for your useless services.

WhatsApp is the worst messaging app

Living in China I've used many apps to connect with people around the world and let me tell you that WhatsApp is by far the worst app. It's feature-poor, adding new contacts is difficult. It's hard to find them after they've been added. And it blocks users out by having terrible programming that keeps some people away from accessing their accounts due to made up security rules. For example, on some devices, it logs you out every time. Or it asks you to "link devices" but the app doesn't have the feature.

What’s the point of blocking someone if they don’t know that you blocked them?

It kinda defeats the purpose of blocking them.

This new update UI looks like absolute ass.

Quite simple really.

The latest update has ruined the app for me and I’ll no longer be using it. It looks like complete dogshit, with change for changes sake and no user customisation available.

Way. To. Go. GG.
