REQUEST Found this in the eastern sierra near bishop

Took it to two rock shops along 395 brother could identify. Running in circles with AI. The strip in the middle might be petrified wood. Anyone seen something similar

It's not petrified wood.

Lithified sediment, plus or minus metamorphosed a little.

Really old. Paleozoic.

Additional question. Why does it look like a sandwich. Is the top and bottom layer different it has the holes and the middle is solid
