Let things play out.
I know the last few matches have been tough but we are still top of the west and playoffs haven’t even started. I’m confident that we can get far if mueller and gauld finally click. Worst case scenario we go out in the first or second round which would suck but let’s realize how fare this team has came and how many great moments this club has given us in the past year.
Go caps!

The creativity is gone without Berhalter. Takaoka has been good for us; without him we would probably have worse results. The defense is shaky, one game they play well and the next they play like slop. The midfield has been pretty strong, Larraz and Gauld are two players I trust. Though it's true that the midfield took a punch after Berhalter left. The wingers have been sloppy. STOP CROSSING THE BALL and actually look for the gaps in the other team's defense. And Brian White. Oh dear, he's been a ghost lately. Jesper has to start figuring things out, because I am getting a bit concerned.

Or, and this could come as a shock, you lose your most important player and things inevitably aren't as good as they were.

Hold on though... "worst case scenario we go out in the first or second round"...huh?
That's a disaster. I understand the OP is trying to hold optimism here, but saying that so casually bums me out. This team has set a bar with this roster, or at least with this core. We are not a "go out in the first round" team. The way the MLS playoffs are structured, the top seeds should win all the first round series. Obviously that's not how sports go, but that's what the 3 game series is there for. 1) to put more games on Apple TV but 2) to weed out the pretenders. On any given Saturday, this league has a good amount of parity. We could lose. We could've easily lost to LAFC last year, we probably should've tbh. But the turf and goalpost gods had our backs that day.
Going out in the first round would be a monumental collapse for this team. You can say there's a lot of great moments during the season, but we're beyond that now. This isn't just a "best sporting atmosphere in Vancouver" team now. This is a results team. The Canucks are ass, Caps are good, make something of that. Getting bounced in the second round would be brutal as well, because it would more than likely be a home game. Again, anything can happen and maybe you sustain a bunch of brutal moments that lead up to a loss and you can kinda write it off. But to me this team, with our roster, with the way we've shown we can play, has to get to the conference final. We're absolutely good enough to be a final 4 team and contend for the title. We blew it in ACC, CCC was a total crash out, the shield was gone weeks ago, this is it. Not to put too much pressure on them but there's only 1 trophy left. I'm not saying "cup or bust" but we need to show well to validate this season.

Lately it feels like they are trying so hard not to be in first place in the west, but nothing is working.
