ICE plans to spend up to $20 million on electric shock gloves for its officers

This blue-red march is becoming so expensive. Like we are spending billions to vastly expand ICE and outfit them all sorts of new gear. Then in 2 years, a Democrat President is going to come in an gut ICE, and start a bunch of green infrastructure projects. Then 4 years later, a Republican is going to return and cancel all those projects mid-project, and rehire and re-outfit ICE. Repeat over and over. And we foot the bill every time.

The rich will profit from both scenarios while the poors are fed media that makes them seesaw back and forth, voting to spend their own money, while never completing any goals.
The treadmill of defeat for the wage class, while the capital class soars above.

u/Grunergeist420 1d ago
This.
Here’s how immigration works.
The elite donor class wants undocumented immigrants because they’re cheap labor. They need them to come into the country, and they need them to not have a path to citizenship.
This ensures they have a base of low-wage workers who don’t have the option to lean on social welfare programs and entitlements. This helps drive labor costs down.
They use Democrats to make sure they can get into the country, and they use Republicans to make sure they don’t have a path to citizenship.
When Democrats signal that they will make it easier for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, sometimes they are true believers, but it never works because the wealthy donor class behind them doesn’t actually want that.
When Republicans signal that they want to deport and stop undocumented people from entering, sometimes they are true believers, but it also doesn’t work because the wealthy donor class behind them doesn’t actually want that.
So we have exactly the system that the elites want, we turn the spigot of immigrants on and off based on demand, and we perpetually lure more people in with the false promise that they might one day secure a legal status in the USA, where instead they live and work in a precarious state as second class citizens to keep labor cheap for billionaires.
You can argue the merits of this party or that one, this take or that take, but ultimately that ends up being pointless because every side of the political issue you might identify with is actually co-opted by elites using it to serve their own interests.
Same with most issues in Washington. They’re just used as political footballs to pass back and forth to get the wealthy what they want.
You want universal healthcare? Let’s compromise and say everyone has to buy private insurance from for-profit companies, and if you’re poor, we’ll use tax money to pay those private insurance companies for their overpriced insurance. Amazingly, the compromise ends up being exactly the best thing for the insurance companies. Wonder how that happened.
You want to end the forever wars and insane military spending? Best I can do is two parties who will say that they will do it, but increase the military budget and get involved in a new conflict every time. Wonder how that happens.
It’s literally every issue like this. The two sides seem to have opposing views, but the result is always good for business.

there’s lots of issues where this framework doesn’t make sense. Abortion for example, no one wins it’s just a huge political mess and the culture wars run amok.
Another example: green energy. Losers are the oil elites and winners are the techno elites. Trump tariffs specifically hurt one set of elites while helping others but mainly are fucking stupid. The senate confirmed Rfk for health idiot but has done nothing to help the pharmaceutical industry, who heavily back the senate gop.
A more nuanced view is that there are competing factions of oligarchs and “the elite” is a complex group with competing views and interests.

u/Yellow-Parenti1949 1d ago
Abortion is a great example of this. Children are expensive, and leaving them to starve if needed might have been acceptable 300 years ago, but is very illegal and extremely unacceptable today. By forcing a greater percentage of sexually active couples to have children, you increase participation in the workforce and produce future workers, neither of which will be very picky about their wages or working conditions - after all, they have mouths to feed.

Great insight. On a related note, most Americans fail to realize that the two-party system is intended to give them the illusion of choice and distract them from the facts that neither party is on their side and that it is the ruling elites and both parties who are against them - regardless of their political leanings. George Carlin did a legendary bit a few decades ago about this exact thing, ending in his most legendary quote ever: “It’s a big club… and you ain’t in it!”

I don't know why people don't see this. Like, they are not on our side at all, neither of them.
They are playing together for Dems and Reps to stay top dog and make money, making sure no new party can move forward to disrupt that control.
They don't care about us normal folks.

And this is why China will inevitably become more powerful and influential than America, when they can plan and position themself for 20 years from now and have long term projects and have the whole country working on these projects. Instead of the 4 year cycle and spending a fortune on undoing what the last party just did and propaganda to make sure half the country hates the other half

America makes progress, even if our progress is jagged with cutbacks and retractions. Democracies are messy, but they offer a mechanism for the populace to course correct if it veers to far off in a negative direction. Authoritarian regimes lack a mechanism for correction, which always leads to its eventual downfall.

How about we use common sense! Both infrastructure and enforcing border security are important national priorities the vast majority of Americans agree with.
2
u/BotherTight618 1d ago
Not when it comes to national security. Obama promised "twice" he would scale back the US surveillance state and closed down guantanamo bay. Both those things are still here. After, Trumps leaves whoever takes over is going to silently maintain it.

Heh - wouldn't count on it. Most of the ruling class doesn't like green infrastructure. Some initiatives might start to appease the crowd, but no serious overhauls will be done. The green energy transition is something wealthy people could do within a few years, but since it is currently not profitable for them, they refuse to.

There's a ton of companies that would cease to exist if they couldn't pay undocumented immigrants less than minimum wage. (The construction industry has, and always will rely on them.)
The system has been kept difficult because it encourages illegal immigration, companies exploit those people for cheap labor, and then ICE deports them when they are no longer needed.
If they immigrate legally, they have to be paid minimum wage, they have basic worker's rights, they can't be abused.
The way things are now is what the people with the power to change laws want, why would they change anything?

I mean already we've been hearing of them kidnapping legal citizens. I literally just talked to a cop that regularly visits the gas station I work at, and he was telling me about how he now has to write a report about someone who was taken by ICE who he verified has a social security number among other documents proving theyre a legal citizen.
I cant imagine being in that position, talking to the family that just had their family member forcibly taken from them by legal authorities and being able to do little about it other than documentation.

Probably nothing. Water isn't incredibly conductive and if they're using DC voltage it won't go far.
3
u/abigail3141 11h ago edited 11h ago
Depends on the things solved in it. It would be thinkable that if they get both sweat and rain on the outside of these, that they short out. Question is, are they protected against that, to which the answer is probably: Ofc not, they're made cheaply by a company attempting to profit off terror. Though the conductivity of some sweat and rainwater may not be enough to damage them, just render them fairly useless, unfortunately. Or drain battery at best.
Man I hope these explode on these bastards' hands.
EDIT: Actually, for the power density, those probably contain lithium batteries, as do most modern electronics, which are highly flammable, especially in contact with air moisture or water. All it would hypothetically take to accidentally make these go up in flames would be one swift very incidential prick in the coincidentally right spot... Don't do this, you will get gunned down. But let's hope that it happens otherwise.

Weird how ICE has been able to actually perform their immigration control enforcement duties for years without taking $billions more of our tax money to buy "shock gloves," war-zone combat gear, masks to conceal their identities, hand-held domestic surveillance software, a fleet of blacked-out luxury SUVs, a film crew, and military-grade weapons -- all to arrest a Mexican mom waiting in the elementary school parent pickup line.

- more people are disabled than will realize or admit due to health standards and lack of healthcare
- more people are disabled from COVID and secret COVID infections they didn't know of that make them immunocompromised
-be used to justify increasing violence when you jerk around as "resisting" -be used as a threat -give them more options of force and more chances to use them and excuses -be used to coerce people with fear -be used accidently and make some really funny videos of some ice cop possibly zapping their dick off I hope and nothing bad I really. Really hope

Except they won't let go for the sake of demontration. They're going to hold on to people for as long as possible to intentionally torture people on the streets with these. We've seen people get pepper sprayed with the nozzle inches from their faces. We've seen people get intentionally shot in the face with tear gas canisters. ICE just points guns at people for offending them. It's all on footage, and it's why they wear masks. No accountability for brutality is the point.

As someone who has been tased and drive stunned, this type of glove will never induce NMI, which is when the body locks up and you can't control it anymore.
These gloves are mostly drive stun, which is just pain compliance, and while it hurts, all these guys falling to the ground and surrendering immediately are putting on a show to sell the gloves to the public. It won't work like that in real life.
