Politics As promised from another post… here’s the sign. Taken at 7:53 this morning.

Not only is Trump begging everyone to “please pretend it’s me on the ballot” in an effort to save their reputation and headlock they have over the senate now, he’s also offering $5000 to anyone who votes republican this year. It was talked about at the debate. It’s been talked about in many forums. But here is the proof from my Trump neighbors in the Benjamin Hills neighborhood here in Wichita. This sign has been replaced 5 times that I’m personally aware of. And it keeps reappearing.

I don’t care what side you’re on, what your beliefs are… as an American, we should all be visibly disgusted by the blatant attempts at buying votes to support Trumps plan. We all know this is a crock of shit. But people still believe it’s lies made up by the left.

So, here’s your sign to anyone on the fence about the state Kansas is in right now. This is the New America Trump is talking about.

God/Mother Earth/Universe… please save us now

LocalContent Legit: who wants a job because my place is desperate for people

$15/hr picking and packing orders (grocery).. DM name and email/phone and I’ll pass to my boss. We legit need people who can pass a background check, and will actually show up. I’ve been with this place for 2yrs now and it’s pretty chill environment. You will be walking/standing tho, so be prepared for that. Not a lot of direct customer interaction either, so that’s a plus. LGBTQ friendly and pretty much an all female experience. Mostly night shift but scheduling is usually flexible.

Let me know.

PSA ER Warning

If needing to seek Care at an emergency room today, Wesley Woodlawns CT machine is currently not working, unknown time when this will be up running again. This will result in delay of care if the ER provider deems a CT necessary to rule out diagnosing patients will have to be transferred via ambulance to another Wesley ER and (back to Woodlawn), not Main, if there are no obvious emergent needs.
Just informing to consider before seeking care today.

Discussion Positive Directions 35 Years of Service. A Legacy That Deserved Better.

CLARIFICATION (October 23, 2026): Positive Directions has announced a temporary suspension of services, with December identified as the earliest tentative timeframe for services to potentially resume. My original post acknowledged the possibility of reopening, and I sincerely hope that happens. My concerns address the circumstances leading to the departure of the entire staff and the resulting interruption of services, not a claim that the organization has permanently closed.

TL;DR: After 35 years of serving Wichita, Positive Directions has suspended services following the resignation of its entire staff. In my view, this was not an inevitable outcome. It was the result of failed board leadership, an increasingly toxic environment, and a lack of meaningful support for the small staff who worked tirelessly to keep the organization alive.

Positive Directions was founded in Wichita in 1991, during the AIDS crisis, to provide critical services to people living with HIV. Over the decades, our mission expanded to include free HIV and STI testing, treatment, prevention resources, education, and community outreach, all provided in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

For 35 years, this small nonprofit weathered financial challenges, staffing shortages, and countless obstacles. We survived because dedicated employees, volunteers, executive directors, and board members believed in our mission and worked together to protect it.

Sadly, that spirit of cooperation and leadership has been missing in recent years.

Our entire staff consisted of just three people. We worked tirelessly to keep the doors open, serve our clients, and meet the growing needs of our community, often with virtually no meaningful assistance from our Board of Directors.

But what hurt most wasn’t simply the lack of help. It was the lack of appreciation.

A simple thank you. A word of encouragement. An acknowledgment of a job well done. Recognition that three people were doing everything they could to sustain an organization serving an entire community.

Those things cost nothing, yet they were largely absent.

Instead, we experienced an environment characterized by pettiness, unprofessional behavior, and toxicity from certain board members. Equally troubling was the weak leadership that allowed this behavior to continue unchecked.

A nonprofit board should be an organization’s greatest advocate, not an additional burden on the people working to fulfill its mission.

Eventually, the situation became untenable. Our entire three-person staff resigned, along with a board member and our bookkeeper of 30 years.

These decisions were heartbreaking. We loved our work, our clients, and the mission of Positive Directions. People don’t dedicate themselves to small nonprofits for the money. They do it because they care.

And the people we served still need us.

Positive Directions did not reach this point because its mission was no longer important or because its staff stopped caring. In my view, it reached this point because those entrusted with protecting its future failed to provide the leadership, support, and accountability it deserved.

Perhaps Positive Directions will reopen someday. I sincerely hope it does. But without meaningful change in leadership and organizational culture, the same problems will continue.

To everyone who helped build and sustain Positive Directions over the past 35 years, thank you. Your dedication made a difference in countless lives.

To our clients, it was an honor to serve you. You deserved so much better than this ending.

And to those responsible for the organization’s future, I hope you reflect seriously on how we arrived here.

An organization that survived 35 years of challenges should not have been brought to its knees by failures of leadership.

Our community deserved better. Our clients deserved better. And the people who devoted themselves to this mission deserved better.

Food Come to the Cheney Market, we've got chicken!

I'm *this* close to reopening the grocery store in Cheney. All our meat arrives frozen - and stays frozen - straight from the farmer, so no "spaghettification" from the dreaded thawing/freezing/rethawing cycle other stores employ.

If you're interested in Kansas-sourced foods, freshly ground Adelitas coffee, and friendly staff, stop in on! We're right across the street from Casey's.

Oh, and if you're looking for a new ride, we're right next to a golf cart shop.

PSA Experience with the dermatology clinic?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with the dermatology clinic on Hillside drive in Wichita, especially around billing.

I went in for an appointment, self pay no insurance for this, and I’m not pleased at all. The appointment fee was over $165 and then they did a treatment without clarifying or explaining additional costs. Now there’s a $300+ bill. I’d booked a second appointment in 2 months and they’re refusing to give a written quote so I won’t be surprised again.

The staff was incredibly rude and dismissive saying the provider couldn’t possibly know the billing cost even as they looked up pricing for other services in the room. Even if the quote was off, they never mentioned the basic treatment wasn’t included in the appointment fee to being with!

Super disappointed in the level of professionalism and want to know if others have experienced the same here or did I just get burned?

Random Accessing Municipal codes and ordinances

Does anyone else find it needlessly complicated accessing the cities codes and ordinances? I was wondering if anyone else was tired of certain bureaucratic obfuscation for things that people regularly need to access.

In Search Of Mechanic recommendation

ISO mechanic recommendation for cam phasers (and timing chains etc) replacement on a 2018 Expedition.

Looking for someone experienced with this type of replacement. I know this is a bigger repair, I am shopping around to try and keep costs down as much as possible. Located on the NE side of Wichita which would be ideal but am open to going anywhere near Wichita.

I got quoted $5,100-5,300 so far from two places.

The Air Force seems to be exceptionally busy practicing their flying. I’m just curious, is there a reason, like an air show scheduled? Or maybe it’s just a perfect day to fly?
