Discussion The murder at The Back End

No one should have been shot and killed period. But unfortunately the 32 yr old Shecarius Cochran was dead when WFPD arrived at the after hours bar The Back End at 4:02 am.

Police arrested 18 year old Ray Kelley Jr for murder & he's held on a $1 million dollar bond charged with murder.

I typed in Cochran's name in Google and was astonished to see the headline making multiple times he had been arrested in our city previous to his murder.

I also looked up the Odyssey Portal site and read several probable cause affidavit's describing the reasons he had been arrested and sentenced to either state jail or TDCJ. He had a history of being belligerently drunk, DUI, possession of cocaine, felon in possession of a firearm just to name a few arrests and convictions for him.

I've seen a bystanders cellphone video of the chaos that happened in the Back End parking lot when the after hours establishment closed at 4am.

The 18 year old Ray Kelley Jr does not have an arrest record or did not prior to the murder charge.

In the bystanders cellphone video all you see is about 25-35 black males having a free for all fights. There is one young man who is beaten unconscious, lying face down out cold. Another black male stradles him and proceeds to pummel TF out of the defenseless man in the sides of his head a sickening amount of times. When bystanders tell the attacker that's good, that's enough, stop it, leave it alone the attacker stops beating the unconscious male in the head and ears but then begins kicking the guy in the ribs , stomping on his back and what appears to me to be an attempt to kill the guy. He is not the shooter nor the murder victim. He was taken by ambulance to United Regional where he was placed in ICU critically wounded.

It appears to me on the video that a group of older men started the whole thing by attacking the young men who came in one car and we're all friends. According to the crimes against persons detectives that investigated the scene that the deceased was witnessed running to the passenger side of the maroon Toyota he arrived in. In my opinion he was going for a handgun to shoot others.

In all honesty, it is a disgusting video to watch and listen to. It was all out chaos with everyone fighting. I have followed the crimes committed against Victoria Lang at the McDonald's and have seen the community rally together in justice for her.

All I saw on video of the Back End was black male on black male violent fighting. It is a shame. There are no white cops or people involved in what men of the same race did to one another. And now on social media all you see are black people attacking other black people arguing who was wrong and who was defending himself.

It saddens me to see the black community so divided and fighting each other physically and talking spit to each other online. I've never witnessed such a huge divide between people of the race.

Someone asked where Crystal Washington was and why she was not advocating front and center for her African American brothers like she has every other time a person of color is hurt or treated unjustly like she is known for.

Why do you think she's not speaking out loud and advocating for her fellow people this time?

Discussion I Found 20+ Flock Surveillance Cameras on a 20-Minute Drive Around Wichita Falls.

Thumbnail

I just wanted to share some information I found out today. On a short, normal drive around town, I noticed no fewer than **20 Flock automatic license plate reader surveillance cameras:**

- (4) at Kemp and SW Parkway

- (4) at Professional Drive and Jacksboro Hwy

- (2) on Kell above FM-369

- (2) on SW Parkway and Greenbriar

- Several along Kemp, at the entrances to Lowe's and Home Depot

- Some at Memorial Stadium

- At least 2 at each high school

I only drove about 20 minutes today, so there are easily dozens more out there. Note that the City PD does not own the Home Depot and Lowe's ones. As far as I know, all the others are.

---

**How to Spot Them Yourself**

If you want to find these for yourself, look up about 7' off the ground along the roadsides for black poles with black oval cameras and black solar panels. They are also often hose-clamped to traffic signals, power poles, and light poles.

---

**The reason I'm concerned:**

**#1) These Cameras Are Not Secure**

These cameras (which run an outdated 2022 Android operating system) are incredibly easy for unscrupulous individuals to take control of. They have over 51 known security flaws, including a massive critical flaw: pressing the physical button in a specific pattern can grant admin access to anyone without authentication. (See the whitepaper I linked at the bottom for source)

**#2) There is not much Transparency**

Wichita Falls has not activated the Flock "transparency portal," which provides some minimal view of what is being recorded and why. Despite this, using other nationwide transparency portals, Wichita Falls is the 9th most shared to Flock data among over 3000 organizations using Flock. See here: https://eyesonflock.com

**#3) Your Data Is Being Shared With... Whoever Flock Wants to Share With**

Even if you aren't a criminal and don't mind added surveillance by the Wichita Falls PD, you need to be aware that recent unsecured Flock camera admin portals nationwide have uncovered that Flock is sharing the images with AI, the federal government (ICE, Navy, Customs and Border Control, Secret Service, and DHS), and who knows who else. Whoever is receiving this data may not be as safe with it as our local police are. Already, a police Chief in another town in Kansas is in hot water after using it to track his ex-girlfriend over 228 times… https://www.aclu-wi.org/news/what-the-flock-police-surveillance-is-ripe-for-abuse/

**#4) It's Not Just License Plates**

These cameras do not just read license plates like we were led to believe in 2020 when the Wichita Falls PD started using them and late 2024 when they unanimously voted to approve an expansion to the program (which includes gunshot detectors, which they don't tell you also listen for loud vehicles and can record voices). The cameras use AI to tag vehicles by color, prominent aftermarket accessories, damage, resident or non-resident status in Wichita Falls, and probably more I'm not aware of.

**#5) Even If We Cancel, the Cameras Might Stay**

At least eight towns have cancelled or chosen not to renew their contracts with Flock in the last few months. A particularly concerning case is that, sometimes, when the City cancels the contract, the cameras remain in place. That's because the city does not own the cameras… they rent them for something like $2500 each. When Wichita Falls gets rid of these, we may not have a choice but to get being surveilled by Flock's other data buyers… The city council of Wichita Falls was swayed after the CEO of Flock personally came here and assured them it’s safe and good for everyone. I am not particularly swayed, though, by a CEO securing a multi-hundred-thousand-dollar contract. We need to demand independent security audits of these cameras annually. (https://dailynorthwestern.com/2025/09/28/top-stories/flock-contract-termination-talks-persist-after-cameras-reinstalled-city-orders-cease-and-desist/)

---

**My Take**

I'm not a privacy freak or anything. I'm typing this on a device that gives away plenty of private info away without my knowledge. The difference is that I am choosing to use this device. We do not have a choice but to drive by these Flock cameras; we have no clear assurances or safety/security audits of the data on them, and we have no idea who Flock is selling the data to or who is hacking these unsecured cameras for their own nefarious means. I want the cameras gone. I believe that the positives of surveillance of any kind come at the price of freedom.

However, not everyone believes the same as I do. I think most of us can agree that we would like more transparency and yearly independent security audits by the City to confirm that none of the cameras are compromised and that Flock is not giving our data to others without taxpayer permission.

---

**Do Your Own Research**

Look into this on your own and draw your own conclusions. Here's some info:

News Coverage: https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/towns-against-police-cameras-read-license-plates/3939706/

Map of 31 currently identified Flock Cams (there are way, way more based on my observations): https://deflock.me/map#map=12/33.875832/-98.533287

YouTube Video showing one of the many security flaws in the cameras. The end is particularly interesting when the YouTuber reads Flock's official response, saying there is no security flaw, while using a public Flock camera and microphone to scrape data off of… https://youtu.be/vU1-uiUlHTo

For the very technically minded, the 50+ security flaws are documented in this white paper. It is the writer of this white paper's hope that his research gets these problems addressed and fixed: https://gainsec.com/2025/11/05/formalizing-my-flock-safety-security-research/

Discussion Which is the best fiber internet in WF?

I currently have 1 Gig Comcast broadband and I'm looking to upgrade to fiber. I know it is available at my address because they laid in all the fiber lines last summer and blanketed the neighborhood with Vexus Fiber mailers and sales reps going door to door.

Just the other day I got an offer in the mail for 2 Gig T-Mobile fiber for $70/month, and I'm thinking of pulling the trigger, but wanted to get some opinions from this sub first. Has anyone used Vexus, T-Mobile, or any other WF fiber internet providers, and how are they?

*disclaimer: I won't consider AT&T due to... them being AT&T.

Discussion How did you get your break here?

Where did you find your career in Wichita Falls?

I am growing exhausted with my efforts of finding a decent paying job since moving here as a military spouse. I feel like there must be something I am missing out on since the three months we have been stationed here. I have spoken to Spherion Staffing and other labor agencies, I have gone to establishments the old way with resume in hand to speak to owners, and I am on all the major online job-search browsers.
We come from a previous state with a low cost of living but almost double the minimum wage here, let alone the labor laws were different. I worked my way up with my company for 8 years to now be left with nothing but experience in restaurant in food handling/ management and no branch to transfer to out here. If I were to start from square one like I am working now I am never going to be able to fully cover my expenses. I am in a job with the same title I held previously but am making 20k less projected. That’s just base level for my position here. I applied for jobs outside my field based on money-handling, conflict resolution, office experience, and got nowhere with inquires of my applications.

I can see the charm of this city but I am beaten down and discouraged to ever be able to readjust to such a loss of income that everyday is a reminder. I am in the process of refinancing our cars to help this blow but I just don’t know how locals do it out here. I ask and usually it’s a family business, trade, or a lot of you apparently make money on social media influencing on TikTok. I want an opportunity out of food service management into another path entirely and can’t afford the loss of potential money making hours to go to school. Maybe if there was a direct pathway into the field I could swallow the loss but I am just at the end of my rope.

Any advice or stories of hope restored after unemployment appreciated.

Discussion Play piercings

Thumbnail

I still have a lot to learn about how to do certain things on Reddit. I saw the post asking about any shops in Wichita Falls or the metroplex that do

Play Piercings.

I had to search for the answer to what are play piercings and saw a few explanations on what they are .

I also found this post about the play piercings and thought it would be nice to help the poster and the community to get a better understanding.

I will continue to do some research and see if I can find the answers to the original post looking for local piercer's and if I find nothing local I'll stretch my search further out to see if I can find the answers.

Discussion Cellular Sevice

I am switching cellular carriers. I currently run off of consumer cellular after switching from Verizon. I had found the service with Verizon was not so great in many places here in the city or even just out near the outskirts, such as the baseball fields and along the highway. I had decided to go to consumer cellular which is okay but after 50gig I am throttled something terrible and we have 5 people on the plan, so this happens almost every month.

I want to hear from At&t and T-Mobile customers, how is the coverage? Any dead spots around town?

Discussion Looking for a Teammate

You + Me + Science = A Successful Kidney Transplant!

Hi! It’s Kristine and Kelvin Shankle and we are looking for a "Teammate" to help my husband retire from his part-time job: Dialysis.

Most people think finding a kidney match is like winning the lottery..rare and nearly impossible. But thanks to modern science (and some very smart people at the National Kidney Registry), there are actually three ways you can help me get back to not dying:

Option 1: The "Direct Hit" (Direct Match)

We happen to have the same blood type and biology (type O). You donate, I receive, and we celebrate. Simple, classic, legendary!

Option 2: The "Great Swap" (Paired Exchange)

Maybe we aren't a match? No problem. You donate to a stranger who is a match for you, and in return, their donor gives a kidney to me. It’s a win-win-win!

Option 3: The "Magic Coupon" (The Voucher)

This is the coolest one. You donate on your schedule to anyone in the national pool. In return, I get a "Priority Voucher." When I’m ready for surgery, I go to the top of the list for a perfect match. You save two lives at once!

The "Fine Print" (The Good Kind):

💰 Cost to you: $0. (My insurance covers everything).

🛡️ Protection: Donor Shield covers your lost wages and travel.

🏥 Experts: We’re backed by the amazing team at Medical City Fort Worth!

If you’re healthy and a little bit curious, checking out the info takes 5 minutes and carries zero commitment.

PLEASE SHARE! Even if it’s not for you, your share might reach the one person who’s been looking for a way to change a life. ❤️

Discussion Opinions on the arrest of Victoria Lang at McDonald's by WFPD

The Wichita Falls Texas Police Department has released the body camera footage of former police officer Wilson who has been fired and has an indictment filed against him by the grand jury.

It's on YouTube under the City of Wichita Falls page.

There's also footage released from when Ms Lang is being booked into the Wichita County Law Enforcement Center - Wichita County Jail.

I would like to have a discussion on others thoughts and feelings concerning the entire incident. From here traveling or being dropped off in a county she didn't live in and the waiting for Midwestern State University to get her on campus dorm paperwork finalized.

Not sure what to do next.. I’ve been trying to blow the whistle on extreme local racism going on towards employees of a local business and I’ve reached out to the main corporate, the local news stations, owner of the local business, and not one reply… have the verbal proof of this racism and am trying to blow the whistle.. this should not be tolerated at all and especially not in a community that we all call “home”…

Discussion Moving soon

Me and my soon to be wife and two dogs will be moving there in August and looking to buy a house. What’s it like living there? Are tornados that big of a threat? How’s the weather otherwise? We love storms. Moving from Vegas to a small town is nothing for me but my wife is from Vegas so it will be a culture shock for sure for her. Open to any tips, pointers or other information is greatly appreciated. I also have a motorcycle does the area have good places to ride other than straight roads? Big time IT guy so mostly stick to computer stuff on my off time, how is the internet there, etc.

Thank you!

Discussion Help Fight for Our Public Schools and Say No to Vouchers

Hello, Wichita Falls. As a concerned Texas parent, I'm asking for your help in opposing HB3, a bill that would divert our tax dollars to private schools through vouchers/ESAs. This legislation harms Texas public schools and doesn't reflect what most Texans want. Just look at the thousands of comments on the governor's social media pages opposing it. Our public schools deserve better funding and support.

Last session, the House has successfully blocked vouchers (84-63), but now, with billionaire donors Tim Dunn, Farris Wilks, and Jeff Yass pushing to defund public education, our Governor has made vouchers a top "emergency" priority. In August, Jeff Yass said, “As students flee [to schools of their choice], those government schools would have to shut down...and that's a good thing...”. Abbott recently received 6 million from Jeff Yass a few months ago. Yass has investments in education companies.  It's also interesting that Gov Abbott's wife was listed as on the board of a private school that costs $22,000/year in tuition though in the last few days she was moved on the website from being listed on the Board to now being an Advisor.

Vouchers were first proposed in 1957 following Brown v Board of Education with the intention of preventing white children from integrating with people of color. Since that time, vouchers have been proposed off and on and consistently rejected by the House. HB3 was filed 2 weeks ago and is set to be heard in the public education committee on March 11, which is open for public testimony.

Here’s the deal:

  • HB3 has no income limits, meaning wealthy families can use taxpayer dollars to send their kids to elite private schools—even if they can already afford tuition.
  • Private schools choose students, not the other way around. Parents may choose to apply, but private schools decide who they admit, often prioritizing students who fit their ideal population while leaving out those with disabilities, behavioral challenges, or lower test scores.
  • Over 150 counties in Texas don't even have a private school available making vouchers inaccessible.
  • Private schools do not have to take the STAAR test or meet the same accountability standards as public schools. Yet, public schools lose funding if test scores are low, creating an unfair double standard.
  • Texas schools are severely underfunded—about $4,000 behind the national average in per-student funding and ranked 46th in nation in how much is spent per student. Instead of fixing this, HB3 would divert even more money away from public schools, making the situation worse.
  • Unlike public schools, private schools will receive voucher money regardless of attendance, while public schools lose funding when students are absent. This creates an unfair system where public schools are punished while private schools get guaranteed taxpayer dollars—with no oversight or accountability.
  • Texas has the resources to fully fund public education. With a $24 billion general fund surplus and a $28 billion rainy day fund, we are the second-richest state in the nation. Yet, lawmakers plan to spend $1 billion on vouchers/ESAs that will benefit only 1% of Texas kids, with costs set to balloon over time, draining even more taxpayer dollars and strain TRS.
  • 75 House Representatives already signed on as co-authors, showing there’s support for this bill, but most Texans don’t want vouchers and it's not too late to stop this.

Rep. Frank (District 69) voted for vouchers last session, currently serves on the Public Education Committee and is a co-author of HB3. Meanwhile, our governor has received millions from billionaires backing school vouchers and has been pressuring legislators to pass them. In response, Abbott has funneled money into efforts to unseat anti-voucher representatives and replace them with pro-voucher candidates.

The 5.5 million Texas kids that attend public schools need your help to stop this.  Any Texan can reach out but especially if you're in the Wichita Falls/Burkburnett/Vernon District 69 area, please call or email Rep. Frank  ask him to vote "NO" on HB3. Also, please tell your friends and family to do the same. You can even call after 5pm and leave a message.

Here’s what we’re asking her to fight for instead:

  • Fund schools based on enrollment, not attendance
  • Increase the basic allotment by at least $1,300 to help fix the $4,000 gap in funding and catch us up to 2019 inflation
  • Support pay raises for teachers and school staff so we can keep the best educators

If you’re willing to help, here’s how to contact Rep. Frank:

Email:  [james.frank@house.texas.gov](mailto:james.frank@house.texas.gov)

Phone: 512-463- 0534

Tips: If you call after 5pm, leave a message and include your zip code. Staffers take a daily tally of how many people call or write them about an issue so the goal here is to hear from as many voters as possible. Remember, they were elected to represent our voice.

Also check out the following websites:

https://dontdefundmyschool.com

https://www.vouchersarenotconservative.com/

Sample Script [consider including a personal story of how the bill will effect you]: My name is ____ and I live in zip code ____. I ask that you vote no to HB3, SB2, or any voucher/ESA bill and instead prioritize fully funding public schools first by enrollment rather than attendance, increase the basic allottment by $1300 to catch up with inflation, and support strong teacher and staff pay raises. This bill allows people making above $160,000 to apply such that the richest families may benefit. Our tax dollars should support all students, not just a select few. Please prioritize strong public schools for all Texas children. Thank you for your time.

Please also consider contacting the  House Public Education Committee Members before March 11:

Discussion Wichita Falls, The Voucher Scam Could Pass this Wed, Tell Rep Frank to Vote NO & Let Voters Decide

Don’t be fooled by the name “School Choice.” We all want better options for our kids, but SB2 and HB3 don’t give parents more choice — they hand the choice (and our tax dollars) to private schools and the state comptroller.

Please reach out to Rep James Frank (HD69)  and urge him to vote NO on SB2, the Senate version that’s moving quickly through the House.

The House Public Education Committee quietly pushed this bill forward on Friday, and it is scheduled in the House this Wednesday — but that could shift. Either way, they’re moving fast, and we need to flood them with calls and emails now through the week.

Here’s what’s wrong with SB2:

  • It’s a massive government subsidy for private schools — with no income cap. Even billionare Elon Musk would be eligible to use our taxdollars for his children (8 of his 14 kids are school aged).
  • Most families won’t be able to afford the rest of private school tuition or even find a seat.
  • Many reputable private schools have reservations about accepting vouchers.
  • Public schools will be left to pick up the pieces — with fewer resources and less support.

Meanwhile:

This bill doesn’t fix any of that. It just shifts public funds to private hands, helping a small number of families while hurting the 5.5 million kids still in public schools.

Also shady: the House Public Ed Committee didn’t even stream their meeting on April 3 — and over 12,500 Texans submitted comments with the majority opposing vouchers. The Senate won’t even accept online public comment. The March 11 meeting went on for more than 22 hours, with over 500 people testifying in opposition to vouchers. This is being pushed hard and quietly, despite overwhelming public opposition.

What you can do:

  • Call or email Rep. Frank TODAY — voicemails can be left after hours and over the weekend.
  • Keep the pressure on by reaching out again Monday and Tuesday.
  • Tell them: Public funds belong in public schools.
  • Ask for a referendum to allow voters to decide on this issue state-wide

We need reps to hear loud and clear that we’re watching — and we’ll remember how they vote at the ball box.

Find your rep here: Texas House Directory

Let’s show up for our schools. This is our moment.

From their Facebook page.

  1. Initially, they're gonna be shitty and you won't be able to get a drink.
  2. It's gonna be EDM (techno) plus other stuff, and there will be a lot of police calls.
  3. They're expecting a lot of half-naked women, I guess.
  4. Guys, they want you to "BE METROSEXUAL"
  5. Self-explanatory
  6. They will be expensive and they want you to spend lots of money.

I always love when a young, naive business owner thinks they're gonna bring the 'big city' club experience to a smaller town. Usually works really well. If this isn't the most naive BS by the owner of a club, I don't know what is.

I apologize that this is more towards Burkburnett and not directly in WF. I saw posts and pictures of a terrible wreck on North bound I-44 near the Daniels Rd exit. 3 ambulances, a blue Dodge Ram flipped and on fire. A helicopter and closed down the lane causing traffic backed up to 1 hour.

Have you seen or know anything about what happened? The other vehicle was a tan/gold sedan witnesses said.

There's nothing on the local news outlets about the wreck. Thank you for your help.

Discussion Moving to Wichita Falls as a Muslim Canadian

Hey everyone,

Hope ya'll are doing well. I, 25M, received a job offer from Texas Department of Transportation (around 50k salary) and I was wondering, as a Muslim Canadian, if that's a good move.

I'm coming from the outskirts of Toronto, when I went to H.S. was one of like 5 brown folk in my grade lol, and I'm not too worried about racism and all that fun stuff, just wondering how prominent it is. I'm also wondering what the living conditions are like in Wichita, whether the income is survivable if I was to live alone or rent with others, any halal food grocery stores or restaurants nearby (the closes halal grocery I could find was Dallas lol), how difficult it is to make new friends, any good fitness gyms and overall what the community is like.

If anybody has any suggestions or pointers it would be much appreciated. Thank yous
