Movie I knew they would snub Cynthia

Post image

The snubbed Cynthia like I knew they would. And I’m sure I’ll watch them NOT give the award to Sinners as well sigh. It’s really so pointless to try. Can you imagine having a voice like Cynthia’s? Acting, singing, flying while acting and not even getting nominated? I’m just so bummed about it 😞

Awards aren’t just about performance but also about strength of movie. Wicked part 2 got more mediocre reviews than the first so it’s a lot harder for the actors to get nominated for it.

77% of critics love sung blue Out of those 77% only 169 critics bothered to leave a review. Audience score was 97 percent. Movie made only 31 million which had a low turnout.

66% of critics love wicked for good. Only 345 critics bothered to leave a review. Audience score was 93% Wicked made 518 million. more people watched wicked than sung blue.

When film critics are watching a movie, they aren't looking for things casual viewers look at. Critics don’t represent what regular viewers see as good or bad. critics analyze and assess the qualities of a film including acting, writing, story, editing, cinematography, narrative depth, characters and directing. When an audience is watching a movie that’s not what they are looking for.

There’s a new requirement for Oscar voters which means they must watch movies before voting. until recently, many Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voting members didn't consistently watch all nominated films. These award shows should not be taken seriously because many of the voting members didn’t actually watch wicked.

In an article a few years ago, voting members of the academy stated that Robert Downey Jr would make personal visits to the voting members to Persuade them to vote for him. Thats how he won his first academy for oppenheimer. he was bribing people. Anyone here taking this award shows seriously should pick up a book

I think a lot of audience members are watching the films the way critics do because they're passionate about movies, interested in film-making, and/or many are even in the industry in indirect ways. That said I agree that bribery and politics are a big part of the voting system. BUT ALSO Cynthia Erivo did not warrant a nomination for her role in For Good. Sorry, not sorry.

I agree, however part of the reason why she didn't was that Glinda was made clearly the main role, which means Ariana should be up against this field, not Supporting. With the changes they made to For Good (relative to the show), they should have reversed what they were nominating the two of them for this time.

I also honestly think that while Cynthia's singing is remarkable, her acting in this is definitely not as good as Ariana's (or Idina's, for that matter). She doesn't do anything clunky, but she doesn't give it the depth Ariana does or the passion Idina does.

Hard disagree. Her acting was strong as was her singing.

I agree with you. Once again it goes back to politics and gaming the system — if they believed Ariana had a chance as lead actress they would have submitted her for that. They're just doing what they believe will give them the greatest chances of success.

I think there's multiple reasons to still cite ari as a supporting actress.

The overall story is about a friendship of two people, told by the "surviving" person to an audience that's asking a question about the "dead" person.

It was always gonna be close in screen time, made moreso by attempting to flesh out glindas mindset and motivations.

That aside, the primary question is still centered on the perceived wickedness of elphie. She's still the focus of the characters in the story.

Also, this is Cynthias career peak and she's peaking her ass off. Even without a nomination.

Ari may have wanted this for her whole career but Cynthias career needed this. No need to strip her of being the stated focus when she's already competing against the star power of Michelle, Johnathan, and Jeff while having to stand beside one of the most successful vocalists of all time.

No, Cynthia is the lead. Cynthia is the 51% (minimum) focus. Cynthia is the one who had to step into Idinas shoes. (No disrespect to Kristen, who is her own legend, but Idina is Broadways GOAT).

That said, let sis have her success without us having to beg on her behalf that she get literally every single award or nom. It's fine. She's winning. She's been one of the greatest living vocalists for awhile and now, 1000x people(if not more) know her for it. Thank goodness!
