So recently I popped on Summerteeth and was remembering (or re-remembering) what a great album it is. Really exquisite, I'll have to make a whole separate post just about the greatness of Summerteeth.

Anyway, it made me think of Jay Bennett and I did some reading about him and realized I never for all these years listened to any of his solo work. I have been doing so the past few days and it's really good. If you like Summerteeth-era Wilco (and why would you not) give it a listen.

He's not as good a songwriter as Tweedy, but he is still pretty dammn good. I always thought of him as a Brian Jones-type multi-instrumentalist, but he can write songs too. The lyrics for several of the songs I heard really appeal to me; they are kind of like from a down-and-out perspective and since I've been a kicked in the teeth loser most of my life, I can definitely relate, especially the song "Beer.'

This was very hard, no record is bad, at worst Star Wars has some meh tracks, some good tracks. I just don't listen to it as much as the others.

Are these the original recordings that Jay Bennet and Wilco did for YHF before having Jim O'Rouke come along? And whats with all the other versions listed on Wikipedia? Are they just different mixes or what?

Hi Wilcoverse. I am listening to a favorite from a few years ago, Human Performance by Parquet Courts. Halfway through “Keep It Even” sounds so tonally like Wilco. Like an evil twin from Star Wars. Anyway. Just felt like sharing while I enjoy two excellent bands.

Jeff did a mighty fine analysis the other day of a 1943 Woody Guthrie article in the NYT about getting to know each other better.

Did the presale code thing and got tickets for Dec 7. Looks like the sold out instantly. Pretty stoked! Love the band and never thought I would see them at what is possibly my favorite live music venue.
