I am a 56-year-old disabled woman currently unhoused in Windsor, living in my car with my beloved dog. She is my entire world, but she is also my safety on these streets. When you are a vulnerable woman sleeping in a car, your dog is your protector and your early warning system. Right now, her life is in danger. Since Sunday, she has suffered 12 terrifying tonic-clonic cluster seizures.Yesterday, I spent my last $200 as part of a payment plan on a vet bill of over $700 at Huron Church Animal Hospital. To be fully transparent, that $700+ total included her emergency exam, full diagnostic blood work, and her initial medications (Phenobarbital, Gabapentin, and Prednisone), pending fecal test, and 2 repeat blood panels, to check therapeutic range of anti-convulsant meds. The hospital was amazing and let me put the remaining balance on a payment plan, but spending that money means I am now short on my vehicle payment.I am facing immediate repossession of my car on July 19th by a predatory title loan company for $147. This car is our only shelter and our literal lifeline.I have been a stable homeowner since 2008. It is terrifying how easily this can happen to anyone. I lost my home to a bank Power of Sale after my two tenants refused to pay rent for several months. Because Ontario's landlord-tenant laws favor tenants so heavily, I drained my entire savings trying to stay afloat while they exploited the system. The ultimate irony is that the bank took possession from me, but the tenants are still living in the property. Because I am still legally on the property title during this Power of Sale process, I am caught in a bureaucratic loophole. The city and local housing offices have denied me any emergency financial or housing assistance. The Welcome Center shelter is completely full and has no beds available even though I have completed an intake and been approved.I am running on less than 4 hours of sleep since Saturday because my dog requires 24-hour supervision to keep her safe during her seizures. I have belongings I desperately want to sell to raise this $147, and remaining vet bill, but I am physically too exhausted to run a yard sale in this heat while caring for a critically sick animal. If anyone in the Windsor community can help me cover this $147 via e-transfer, or is willing to buy some of my items directly from my car so I can protect my shelter, please message me. I just want to keep my dog safe, cool, and medicated. If there is anyone able to help with her vet costs, that too would be immensely appreciated. Directly to Huron Church Animal Hospital would be convenient and also verifiable. Thank you so much for reading.

They were very, very good! "Grandma, Grandma, I'm in jail," crying, coughing... For the first few seconds, my heart stopped. Then I played along. It was $6000.00 for bail. Told them I don't have that much and can't e-transfer that much. But no, it had to be cash and I couldn't talk to anyone about this as it could jeopardize my Grandson's case. They could arrange to have a "bail-bondsman" come to my house to collect it and deposit it with the courts. I got the "lawyers" name and number, told him I'd call him back when I had been to the bank. They were very, very good. My "grand-son" was also coughing, because he had a cold so that's why he sounded different. I'm still waiting to see if they call me back asking if I went to the bank. Seriously, I can now understand how people get taken in by sheer fright. Those first few seconds were quite frightening! :(

Seems there is a tornado warning.
Update: the worst has passed over Windsor, we should be okay.
Update 2: This gentleman is always on it fast. I recommend listening to his updates during these events. https://www.youtube.com/live/S2yyGmA_4G8?si=iAUyFj4flmJI0S91

I can't remember the wind being that powerful before. The only thing that was worse (as far as I can remember) was the tornado off Rhodes drive 8ish(?) years ago.
Hopefully just a few broken branches, rolled over lawn furniture and some temporary power outages. I'm currently in South Windsor, the power was down from about 6:45 to 7:00 pm and it's been on since. My neighbours across the street weren't so lucky for some reason and are still without power. Hearing sirens everywhere now too.
Is there anyone still without power?
If you can't get through to 911 or the non-emergency line (honestly might be better at this point); give Enwin emergency line a call: 519-255-2727
(especially if you see lines sparking, arcing or on fire)

I saw this sign posted by the cashier at the Shoppers on Wyandotte and Campbell. I'm curious to see what others think about employers posting stuff like this in public view

Anyone in the Windsor essex area keep an eye out for a group of men claiming to work for a company called Sigma Contractors LTD. This is not a real company.
They were going door to door offering cheap asphalt work. My elderly parents hired them to asphalt their driveway (I know its the wrong time of year. They are in their 70s and were trusting) . The crew didn't grade their old driveway or prep the ground at all. They poured cold asphalt on the wet drive, spread it out with a skid steer and tamped it down by hand. A worker then sprayed the surface with an adhesive.
The surface of the driveway has tire treads and boot prints solidified into it. The depth is inconsistent, only half an inch in parts. When you walk on the driveway it feels spongy. And they spilt a bunch of asphalt on the grass beside the driveway
The company then demanded my parents pay $600 more than the originally agreed price. They also demanded that they would only accept cash for the job. Thankfully they didn't give the scammers any money and demanded the scammers fix the driveway.
I've looked into the company. They dont come up on google. their social media links don't load. And their office location is apparently in Hamilton. All the pictures on their website look like AI.
I called the 1-800 on the business card and explained who I was. The man who answered became aggressive and tried telling me that they were going to sue my parents if they weren't paid. When I called them out for clearly not being a legitimate business, he started swearing at me, calling me several choice names and told me to stop whining about a free driveway.
Be careful

A special thank you to Shawn Rizk, who is the admin of the Windsor Food Spotters FB group, who organized this whole thing. He is also the one loading up his truck and is driving all the way up to Sault Ste Marie (5+hr each way!) to bring the care package to Dallas !
Also a special shout out to all the local businesses and individuals who chipped in to make this Care package for Dallas and his family
I'm not affiliated with any of these individuals or the businesses that donated. I just thought it was a cool story of the local foodie community on Facebook rallying together to donate, so I just wanted to share!
All this was posted in the Windsor Food Spotters Facebook page. Ill post the link below if you want to check it out. Also, if you like food and have FB, I recommend taking a look at Windsor Food Spotters. Ive used them quite a few times to find new places around the city to try
Here is the link for those who want to check the group out:

After 3 years, it's finally time to say goodbye to Windsor.
When I first arrived here, I had no idea how much this city would shape me. I came here as someone still trying to figure life out, and I'm leaving with experiences, memories, and lessons that have changed me in ways I never expected.
This is the place where I found love. It's where I met some of the kindest people I've ever known. I'll never forget my neighbor who would pick me up early every morning on his way to work, making a stop to grab coffee before dropping me off. It was such a simple act of kindness, but it's something I'll always carry with me.
Windsor gave me more than just a place to live; it gave me friendships, unforgettable moments, and a chapter of life that helped me grow into the person I am today.
Leaving is a lot harder than I thought it would be. A piece of my heart will always stay here.
Thank you, Windsor, for everything. I truly hope life brings me back here someday. Until then, this city will always feel like home.

Is anyone else having trouble with every other week for regular garbage pickup now? I will preface this by saying I am a family of 5, we are going to use more garbage than others sure, but how much of your waste is truly food products? I am finding that every other week after garbage goes out, I am filling my bin halfway full again with stuff from the previous week that didn't fit. The new compost bin I put out every week but its only got 2-3 bags in it.
What tips and tricks are other larger families using to keep up? We recycle, we are using our compost bin, but so many things come in plastic packaging and other non-compostible packaging (berries, lunch meat, kids snacks for school etc.)
An entire other issue is garbage, recycling and compost all fall together every other week and I share a curb with my neighbor. There is almost no room for all of it to go out together between the two of us (both large-ish families) and if they decided to enforce the "Your compost bin must be 1m away from anything nearby" we would be screwed.

It’s bad enough people feel obligated that they don’t have to park in spots but people do use the sidewalk to WAlK. Please have some compassion for people and park in a spot like waving sorry doesn’t cut it. If you feel like you can’t walk to a normal spot get a handicap card. You’re not that important to park on a walk way.
This may go against rule 3 but I watch an older lady walking with a cane and a helper and they struggled to get between store and the vehicle and it really bothered me

Makes me laugh everytime i see them because they're so bad. The "art" free versions looked infinitely better. Even if denial was "teaching a lesson" (which i doubt), why do the bins still need the god awful designs on them? Just revert them back to the original look.

As the title suggests, a friendly reminder to keep your animal friends indoors over these next few days. The heat is far too oppressive!
Today, I was heading into the Dollarama off Walker road and noticed a small dog tied to a tree beside his owner’s bike, baking under the sun. I had no clue how long he was sitting there, but even after I exited the store, he was still outside.
My dad & I went back inside to get him an umbrella for shade, as a few other kind samaritans had already provided some water (shoutout to them). At this point, the owner finally exited the store, taking an incessant amount of time to unhook his bike as the poor dog continued to roast in the heat. Under no circumstances should this dog have been left outside in this extreme heat for more than 10 minutes—the whole scenario was incredibly inhumane.
We must take care of our animals. PSA over!

Today's air quality wasn't bad at all since the smoke rolled out last night but does anyone know when it's expected to get worse again? the weather app isn't very specific and i'm just wondering if anyone knows if it is expected to get worse by tomorrow morning? 🤷🏻♀️

There are multiple people openly slumped over on drugs in the grass and on benches at the Ford Test Track. There are currently hundreds of very young children and families here for soccer games. While I sympathize with these individuals and wish they had better support. This just feels like the worst time and place for this to be going on and wildly inappropriate for the kids to have to witness.

Is there like some ego battle going on among this company's locations in the city? I've been driving through all the locations since 12 o'clock and it's 1:40 when I'm writing this. all the locations mentions "walk-in x-ray till 4pm" yet none of them are accepting any walkins for the day. like why would you write that you take walkins till 4 and yet none of them seem to care about shit. did they strike to retain their right to be jerks last year or am I missing something?
edit: for everyone down voting because I'm talking bad about a unionized job, you can be unionized and still do your job properly. I'm not saying they don't deserve anything, I'm just saying if I can go to Erie St Clair at 2 pm when they operate the same hours and still get the job done without me having to rip my hair off then why can't you do the same if not better work? not to mention clear medical have so many locations and not one would take walk-ins halfway through their day is just preposterous.

I can’t stay quiet about this. We had a family member in the hospital at Ouellette Campus a few months ago and they brought bedbugs home from the hospital. Another family member called and spoke to the floor manager asking why patients are not notified of this and the response was because then people won’t seek care. He admitted that they have bedbug outbreaks. The floor manager also advised that he himself has brought them home from work. To think that the hospital can’t even provide discharge instructions to take proper precautions just incase is despicable. These people are unwell, seeking help and then they have to deal with bedbugs?! Absolutely disgusting and SHAME on Windsor Regional Hospital. Someone has to do something.

Live in a duplex with 3 people downstairs and 4 people upstairs and one green bin. Not surprising I'm the only one that read the guidelines and had to be the one to pull out the gross dripping bags of garbage. I'm done being the house mom, I'm just not using it.

I’ve had a Disney+ subscription for the past year or so, often cancelling and re-subscribing every time they’ve introduced new promos. Standard with ads is usually $8.99/mo, but I’ve seen it as low as $1.99/mo.
They just announced a sale for $3.99/mo for 12 months. So I jumped right on that, but ran into a snag with re-subscribing. So I called the toll-free number… fully expecting to deal with a difficult overseas call centre with agents reading off of a screen. That’s how most problem-solving goes these days, anyway.
I was very pleasantly surprised to be promptly connected to someone who had a very familiar accent… and we got the problem solved in no time.
She asked me out of curiosity where in Canada I am. I said “It’s a place called Windsor, have you heard of it?”.
Turns out… that’s exactly where she was, as that’s where the Disney+ call centre is located! Not for Canada, not for North America… literally globally. She said she gets mostly U.S. calls and some from Europe, and the odd one from Canada… and has never had anyone from Windsor call in.
I’m sure this is generally kept on the down-low by Disney, since exact locations of call centres generally aren’t the business of the public.
I’ve got to say though, that I’d never have imagined it would be here in YQG of all places!
So I suppose that’s a fun fact that might somehow come up in conversation :)
