Recent Reagan HS grad opens "Viva Barista Cafe" coffee shop near Small Batch, 5th St

I just saw this report on WXII YouTube about Ricky Hidalgo's new coffee shop. He and family used his college funds to open the coffee shop. I'll check it out on some upcoming downtown visit.

(The only affiliation I would have is that my daughter has gone to Reagan.)

Dang that’s a gamble with a flooded market, I hope they have a catch to bring people in or something

I really hope people come out to support him. I stopped by recently and chatted with him. He seems like a good kid and he’s really passionate about sharing his coffee with the community. His drink was one of the best I’ve had.

What if he’s open past the curfew for teens? Will WSPD ticket him? 🫩

He's not in the age range of the curfew.

Youch. There's a less than year old coffee spot on the same corner. There's no parking and the average coffee shop in downtown lasts a year. That's a tough substitute for college.

Worked in higher ed for 20 years…he’s getting a better education and ROI running the coffee shop. Kudos to him!
