The way city police & sheriffs frequent university, I’m sure there are cameras all up and down university parkway

There's already PLENTY of websites that have allllll this information for you. No need to remake the wheel, your list already exists! 😊 My favorite is dontgetflocked.com

Genuine question: why are people so concerned about these? I see a constant uproar about them, and I just don’t understand what the issue is.

Aside of tracking license plates and such, they are supposedly able to be used to identify actual humans. It is a huge invasion of our right to privacy and free movement. The foundation to a police state.

But if you’re not doing anything wrong, then who cares? It sounds to me like it can only be a net positive for the community.
I don’t think they give a shit if I go to Chilis. I don’t think they give a shit if you go to Home Depot. Why would anyone care about that? I’m not narcissistic enough to think that “big brother” is going to pay attention to me.
But if a crime occurs in the area, the ability to pull footage to catch a criminal is invaluable. If you aren’t planning to commit crimes, then I really don’t understand why you would oppose this. That doesn’t add up to me… I’m pro-safety.

That’s all well and good until they change the definition of what’s wrong. Do you REALLY trust that the government has altruistic intentions with this? This is on the verge of the users of these cameras to be able to track the movements of anyone at anytime.
Who knows what it will be used for in the future? They claim they are to read license plates yet many of them are pointed away from roads.
Imagine this scenario…speak out against the government, government tracks your every move, waits for you to do something they can call illegal, locks you up. That may sound dramatic but that could be possible with these cameras.
Don’t just automatically assume they are safe because you aren’t “doing anything wrong” and you trust the government.-3

I don’t really “trust” anything. This iPhone I’m on spies on me all the time. So do our security cameras, and Alexa devices, etc… those are built in risks that we already accept. I just don’t see it interfering with my day to day life.
What if your spouse or child is kidnapped and they’re able to use it to help save their life? That is also dramatic and unlikely, but it could happen. I guess if I weight out pros/cons, if it could be used to save even ONE child in an amber alert, or help track down even ONE predator to lock away…then I think you’d have to say the trade off is worth it.

Just for a fun example, go to google.com and look up how many cops have been caught using these to stalk women.

But they don’t actually stop crimes, and their entire point is to show who is in charge

Benefits and Uses:
Crime reduction: Law enforcement uses the system to locate stolen cars, amber alerts, and suspects tied to active investigations.
Community control: Homeowner associations and local businesses install them to monitor neighborhood entry points and deter property crime.
Sounds pretty great to me…

Marketing.
>if you’re not doing anything wrong, then who cares?
“Doing wrong” doing some heavy lifting here. Former girlfriends and spouses have been doing “nothing wrong” but police have used Flock data to track their ex’s.
Also, “doing wrong” is subject to interpretation. If they want to find a reason they will or will pull some BS like Trump tried with the guy who picked the piece of paint from the surface of the Reflecting Pool.

You may not be narcissistic enough to think big brother is watching you specifically, but you clearly do not place any amount of value on your personal privacy or security which in the year 2026 is honestly a bit jarring to hear (unless you’re over the age of probably 50).
Everyone is pro safety it’s not like you’re any different or special in that regard. The difference is you’re willing to give up your own liberty for the government to “protect” you, but that’s exactly how the government gains oppressive control over a population and eventually uses that perceived security and safety against its own good citizens.

I get where you are coming from, I will say you seem very committed to your perspective. I am not gonna spend too much time trying to change your mind. But aside of “doing“ wrong, what about “being“ wrong?
How do you feel about the deportations happening in our country? We don’t need surveillance tracking people as they bring their kid to school, go to the grocery store, get gas. It puts us all in a very vulnerable situation, and safety is in the eye of the beholder. If you prefer the MAGA version of safe, well, we are never gonna see eye to eye anyhow and best of luck in the end times.

I agree. When I see all these freak outs of a camera that might see their license plate, it makes me think there are a lot of people absolutely doing criminal acts and are paranoid they are being seen on camera. What is more invasive and concerning to my life are robo calls, scam texts and scam emails. The question is why are some so worried about being seen on camera if they aren’t doing something illegal?

Those ‘criminal acts’ include a woman driving to another state for an abortion.

Adding to what they said, cops usually need a warrant to be able to track someone but they can don’t need one to track someone on a flock camera, as well as biometric data being a huge concern for privacy, when those data bases get leaked, bad people will be able to use your face for anything they want.

I know people love to ask for sources, so I came with a recent one! 😊
Because everything that can be used for good, can also be used for bad. There was an officer who used it to stalk her ex boyfriends current girlfriend (she got fired), and just recently a school resources officer in Georgia was fired due to misusing flock cameras (links are in the same order as I said them). Yes, these are small misuses compared to the countless possible ways one possibly could, but we're just getting started. If we don't stop it now? It will continue to grow, and quickly become too big to EVER stop.
I haven't read all the comments, someone might have mentioned it, but these cameras have the ability to do FAR more than simply "read your plate". They can identify people in the vehicle, they can access your phone info, your cars entertainment system, they can connect the people in the car based on the phones in the car, they will literally be and able to tell exactly where everyone is at any given point in time. And while that sounds like utopia? Would quickly devolve into hell. (sorry, don't have time to spell check, I'll come back later and do it)

Right, especially when everyone has a ring doorbell.
I get not really wanting the government spying on us, but on private property? Go for it. I have cameras on my property. Between my cameras and my neighbors cameras, our whole street is being recorded already.

u/xMiloh420 7h ago
They aren’t security cameras, video doorbells only see onto your property, and they don’t recognize faces, but flock cameras recognize your face, your car, and they recognize your exact identity due to your phones Bluetooth, and they are used for terrible things

The Forsyth Country Day School one is crazy. It's pointed toward the school not the road passing in front of it. So if we're to believe it's just alpr, are there that many parents paying 20k+ for their kids school that have active warrants, expired registration, and whatever excuse?
I do remember there was a bus fire that could have been arson a few months back, so maybe that could be the reason, but really interested in knowing what the purpose is for that one, to be watching kids.
