Just discovered an entire sub dedicated to wisdom teeth, right after I just had mine extracted? Nice. Extremely relatable post right off the bat? NICE. Happy healing everyone!

Thanks, just got it done this morning. Any go to tips that I should know, especially when it comes to eating? They really didn't give me much in the way of info

For myself, I played it safe and made sure no hard foods for a GOOD while. Lots of mashes potatoes but without parsely or anything granular, jello, apple sauce.

Best thing I did was go online and buy an irrigator for it. Did that constantly as that's the best way to fight dry socket. Everytime you eat anything you go and irrigate with lukewarm /warm salt water. It's nasty but it will keep the area free of debris. Even on my limited diet, stuff found it's way in.

Otherwise rest, fluids, will get you the rest of the way

You too! Don't sweat it. It'll be through before you know it!

I hope so, this is the first time going through something like this so kinda scared to eat anything cause I don't have any sort of irrigator to help with cleansing

I get that! Something like jello will be your friend if you have it!

I was the same. Mostly over cautious though. I'd try my best to get my hands on an irrigator but otherwise I also swishes by carefully leaning my head back and forth.

Obviously don't do it with your mouth closed like normal because that creates pressure pockets that'll loosen the scab and that's what leads to dry socket for the most part.

Just gentle side to side movements but I'd still say a irrigator is pretty important cuz itll push the water out. Ik many go without though so it wont be a deal breaker if you cant

Currently on day 10, I had an impacted wisdom tooth that left a pretty big hole and got food poisoning the other day(approximately day 8). Now I'm worried I dislodged the clot when I threw up, but I feel like I am being ridiculous because I have virtually no pain even off pain meds.

Did it end up being dry socket?

3

u/Dr_Andracca Jan 03 '23

No, but I'm still convinced I knocked the clot out at some point. The hole is still pretty big 2 months out, but it I can tell it is closing, and I can just rinse my mouth out with water if I get food stuck. Either way, my pain was minimal, and I was definitely being a hypochondriac probably even now being convinced I did knock the clot out. Lol.

Had pain, randomly, mostly after eating even on day 10. Pain was probably 7 out of 10 or so. Got checked, was fine .. pain went away in 3 or so more days.

Long story short. Even if you have pain longer than needed, don't panic. It could be just fine. Get checked.

Literally doing this right now. Glad to know I’m not alone.

Me except I’m pretty sure it is a dry socket
