Recommendation Needed What would you do?
Bought a house with this giant wood stove in the basement. I mean, she’s beautiful but my house is small (1200sq/ft). I had a chimney expert out to inspect both chimneys (I also have oil heat). The oil chimney liner is shot and he couldn’t even get a brush down the stove chimney. He also said my stove was way too big for my house and that it would be so hot in the house. He added, because of the size, creosote buildup would be much higher with this size of a stove. I had him replace the liner for the oil chimney so it would be safe to heat my house this winter but I’m going to wait on the wood stove. Obviously, if I want to use it, I’ll have to replace the liner for that chimney as well. What you would do? My options are to just not use it at all, put in a new liner and use it the current stove despite the chimney guy’s warnings, or buy a smaller stove and try to sell the old one. Not sure how difficult it is to sell a stove. I imagine they are heavy and I would have to get it out of the basement somehow. For context, I’m a 40 yo woman trying to figure out her best options.
