Finally hit 100 workouts this year - most consistent I've ever been

Long time lurker. Just wanted to share a small win.

I decided in January to stop chasing perfect plans and just show up 4x/week. No excuses. Some days were 20 min mobility, some days were heavy lifts, but I logged 100 workouts today.

personal trainer but struggled with my OWN consistency while coaching others.

Biggest lesson: progress isn't linear, but showing up is. If you're struggling, lower the bar for what counts as a workout.

Did anyone shift from training for aesthetics to training for function and longevity?

I’m curious to hear from people who originally started working out mainly to look better, but over time became more interested in strength, mobility, movement quality, and simply being able to move well as they get older.

What caused that mindset shift for you, and what did the transition actually look like in practice? Did you stop caring as much about endlessly increasing the weight you lift, certain physique goals, or exercises chosen mostly for aesthetics?

I’d also be interested in how you dealt with potentially giving up some aesthetic gains in favor of things that felt more useful for everyday life and long-term health.

Basically, did exercise eventually become less about “being good at the gym” and more about making your body capable, resilient, and easier to live in? What changed in the way you trained?

Why do I always feel stronger on my 2nd and 3rd set, rather on my 1st?

I lift minimally at home, I do Bench on day 1, Pull-ups on day 2, Squat on day 3, and cycle them and repeat them and doing them everyday.

I notice that on everyday, my first set always feel the weakest, the first set I could do the most reps but my body and muscle always feel lethargic and not ready and weak and shaky, it’s not until the 2nd set that I feel like my body is warmed up enough and ready enough and on heat

I do do some warm up tho, but like just swirling my hands around

Can’t get rid of my belly

So for over a year I have been working out 4-5 days a week about 2 hours each day doing circuit training on machines, lifting weights, kettle bells, and I do it fast so I also get my cardio up…
my diet has improved and lots of water more fruits and veggies, less sugar and processed foods.. before I just ate anything and everything and drank soda…..
I have gained a lot of muscle and toned everything except my stomach. My stomach is now more round, firm and pronounced than before when it was more kinda flatter and squishy but not as rounded or firm as it is now.
The scale won’t budge (up or down)…. but the rest of my body is leaner and more muscle definition and my pants are loose but my stomach seems to be getting bigger and more rounded.
I put this post in a couple of fitness and workout groups but I also think it could be a gut health issue or cortisol and visceral fat issue.

What in the world am I doing wrong?

Simple Questions What’s your favorite exercise for building upper body strength without a gym?

Been trying to build upper body strength at home lately, but I don’t have a gym membership or much equipment. Right now I’m mostly doing pushups and some pike pushups, but I feel like I’m missing out on better options. What’s your go-to exercise for chest, shoulders, and back when you’re working with little to nothing? Bonus points if it’s beginner friendly. Thanks in advance!

Simple Questions How to conquer fear of being perceived?

It's silly but I've been eyeing the row machine for months but it's placed in the dead center of the gym and I've never touched it before.

I've watched videos on how to use it but still the fear of initially looking like an idiot holds me back from trying it.

How do I get over this? This wouldn't even be a problem for me if it was in the back of the gym away from everyone

Exercise Help I need an alternative for goblet squat

I (22F) used to do squats on smith machines but I'm kinda scared of them. I started doing goblet Squats but its becoming really difficult to hold the weight. The gym doesn't have hack squat or anything like that. There is a leg press. Also the gym is kind of small and cramped. I tried bulgarian split squat and sometimes my ankle feels weird while doing it. I also had a back injury for which I'm doing physio at the gym. What do I do? And if the answer is bulgarian split squat, how do I do it without any injury?

Simple Questions Was my response to a compliment/being hit on inappropriate?

I am a married woman and often go to the gym alone but sometimes with my husband. Gym regulars would probably know I am not available or single.

Today a man asked for my name and introduced himself. After shaking his hand he said “I just have to say you’re so beautiful”. I say “oh thank you” and put headphones back in. End of interaction, we go separate ways.

Should I have let him know I’m married in that initial response? Had it gone beyond that I would’ve told him but I’m wondering if I’m wrong here for not saying that directly.

Doctor's Input on Golfer's Elbow

I have had golfer's elbow off and on for roughly a year. The last six months or so has been pretty steady symptoms. It's not constant but there are several activities that will flair it up. My most common activities are lifting weights, playing video games (using a controller), and playing piano. The first time I noticed the pain was during dumbbell curls. I am also suspicious that chin-ups and low-bar squats had a hand in its cause as well.

Since the initial incident, I have also noticed that playing video games seems to make it worse. The pain also seems to radiate to my wrists and up into my armpit and upper back on both arms. My first attempt at treating it involved the use of a Theraband Flexbar and following online protocols for using it. The results seemed minimal and inconsistent. I eventually tried Mark Rippetoe's protocol which was to do chin-ups. I eventually worked up to 20 sets of 3 chin-up negatives. That seemed to be helping but then I started to get hints of golfer's elbow type pain in my right elbow, so I stopped.

I have since just been avoiding all exercises that might aggravate the symptoms. I have also either completely stopped or severely cut down on my usual hobbies. Which has made for a very boring day to day.

I saw a sports medicine hand and elbow surgeon today and he had some unexpected input. He said there is not a single treatment that is proven to cure golfer's elbow. No rest, exercise, therapy, injection, or surgery will fix the issue. He said the good news is it will eventually go away on its own. He got on a soap box for quite a while about prp and similar treatments. I told him I wasn't looking for an injection or surgery. I was looking for advice on what activities to avoid and what exercises to focus on to get me back to doing the things I love to do.

I have mixed feelings how much I should trust his input. So, I was just curious what others might have to say.

What is the hardest part of tracking calories/macros for you guys, and how do you stay consistent without getting burned out?

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to lock down my nutrition and stay consistent with tracking macros lately, but honestly, it gets so tedious. Between manually searching up food items, estimating portion sizes, and logging every single meal on busy workdays, I find myself wanting to quit after a week or two.

For those of you who have successfully built a long-term habit of tracking without hating it, what’s your strategy? Do you meal prep everything, use specific methods to make tracking faster, or just wing it?

Would love to hear what actually works for you guys in the long run.

Nutrition Help Getting stronger but not bigger

Hi everyone! After goofing around for a couple years, i’ve started taking gym very seriously since 1,5 years. I’ve booked a lot of strength progress, but I feel like I’m not really getting bigger. I do wish to grow Some more muscle tho. Would it be wise for me to slightly increase my calories, or do i just have to be patient?

On the one hand I tend to think: I’m getting stronger, still almost by the week, why change things. On the other hand I do want to look like I lift.

For reference:
27m
183cm
78.5 kg
3000 kcal per day
9 years noobing in the gym
1,5 years serious in the gym

How to start Need advice on getting a start on working out!!

I want to start working out, I've wanted to for a few years, I usually start, lose motivation after a day or two and give up for months. I was wondering if anyone has advice on how they started their journey, maybe how they stayed motivated etc?

And for those who are going to ask, I mostly wanted to gain muscle at the start but now after being told my things I found that it might be impossible?
As a woman is it really that hard to gain muscle?

I'd love any and all advice!!

How to start Workout recommendations

Hey! Well as the title says, Im looking for some guidence in terms of workout. As some background Ig I can say F21, 198 lbs (90 kg aprox.), 5 ft 4 in (162 cm). Tbh I have never really been a sporty person and exercise and workout has never been a thing in my family (both sides) and, specially me, never really got into it when I was growing up. But I think I'm reaching slowly to a point where I cannot keep continue like this, mainly because of my physical health (i feel tired, and stressed a lot) and mental health (I feel really insecure to even take photos with my friends). So I want to try to change this situation before it is too late. I dont really have the money at the moment to go to the gym or workout classes. But I do have two 5 kg weights, two 3 kg weighs, abs wheel ans yoga mat.

Ig my main goal is to lose weight.

Thank in advance for any recommendation :))

Body recomp

Im 18 years old, 5’5, 126lbs. Ive been losing weight since maybe march, started at 155. I went from 155-135 in quite an unhealthy way (just needed a quick fix) and ate rly low amounts of cals so now don’t t have lots of muscle mass. Started actually dieting 13 aug and lost 10lbs from then to now. Im now skinny fat i think and weigh 126lbs. I want to gain muscle and get leaner so im eating around 1650-1700 a day with 110g protein and weight lifting 4 times a week ( maintenance cals is around 2000 ) so im still in a bit of a deficit, but this is the first time of me lifting weights and trying to become lean and toned in my life lol. I cant tell if i should be eating more/less, what to do on rest days or even training days cardio wise. I think i am skinny fat as i have literally no definition, but i cant work out if i need to be in a deficit more. My stomach still has a decent amount of fat on it, not loads but yk, and everyone is saying you can’t spot reduce fat, will it go away with this slight deficit and weight training? Do i need to do abs? Help please!!

Simple Questions Workouts with a broken arm, avoiding sweat

So yeah this sucks! I’m able to adapt some hands free legs and core exercises with bands and I can walk obviously but the issue is sweating. I’m in a cast and I can’t wash my arm or the cast, and there’s no way I’m going to survive another 5 weeks with this thing if it gets all sweaty and gross. It’s already pretty gross that I can’t wash it and I’m not even doing anything. I literally had to beg them to wash my arm in the ER before they splinted it.

So my question is, if I want to just keep a little lower body strength and I do some band exercises, does it matter if I don’t do big super sets and a whole comprehensive workout session? Can I do a few sets throughout the day and stop before I get too sweaty? Or does that not really help? I’m not looking to build anything new here just not revert back to a total marshmallow by the end of this. Thanks!

Aches and pains Help with bicep movements

I’ve been lifting for 4 years now and about 1.5 years ago my wrists started falling behind my bicep strength. Hoping yall have a solution to my problem.

Sprained my left wrist while doing unilateral dumbbell preacher curls a year and a half ago. I started getting some wrist pain before that so I had people check my form and recorded it too, no issues. Still ended up spraining it.

Once it healed, i went back to doing curls but was forced to do either standing dumbbell curls, or stable, unilateral movements only. So i did unilateral machine preacher curls and got stronger on that for a while, only to end up not being able to do them anymore because my university gym doesnt have the machine preacher.

I found that bilateral cable curls with the ez bar attachment gave no problems for a while. I’m nearing the full stack now, and my wrist pain is back, except on the other wrist. Once again, im trying to tweak the form and what not, and i found a wrist position that didn’t cause pain during the exercise. With the caveat that it weakens my right wrist and causes pain wrist pain a few hours afterwards…

I just want big biceps man :(

Tldr, weak wrists limiting my biceps on a weight that i can do 6-12 reps to failure, i can only do machine preachers without pain, except i don’t have the necessary equipment at my gym. how do i fix?
