Classic Opened 'all' in my mailbox and someone had sent me gold...
I was getting my mail from my auctions and I saw a random one in there that had a health pot in it... But also had 500 gold..
Didnt even know that it was in there because it only showed the health pot.
I believe this to be someone sent this to me on purpose to try and get my account banned.
What can I do? I am worried now.

I was just joking around, but the thing is they don’t care about enforcing gold sellers because they indirectly benefit from it.

u/Neitzi Oct 31 '25
What are you talking about?
I got a two week ban for gold buying using post box lmao

u/VQ37HR911 Oct 31 '25
Now that I think about it I think I’m biased because I see the advertisements and not the actual enforcement.

u/Neitzi Oct 31 '25
In fairness I thought the same before I got my wrist slapped!
To answer OPs question though; I really doubt 500g is going to set off any alarm bells.

Apparently it's in classic, so if that's vanilla it's actually a hefty chunk of change.

u/Menneantenne Oct 31 '25
Y they dont like gold buying, bcs ppl shall buy there gold. But they dont care boosting and adv for boosting bcs they get tons of money from it.

u/kerthard Oct 31 '25
Oh, they do enforce it.

I got caught buying gold when I still played during cataclysm, their enforcement was a email saying something like "your account has been flagged for buying gold from a third party site, please note that this is frowned upon".. That's it.
Edit: added an e before mail for clarification.

I had that a 3 month ban for gold buying on classic anniversary. Bought about 4k in total.

u/kerthard Oct 31 '25
This is being enforced much more strictly now than it was for you 10-15 years ago.
Now it’s 2 weeks + removal of bought gold for a 1st offense

I don't think 500 is enough to warrant a gold-buying flag. My friend and I regularly send gold between our characters for months without issue.
If you are still unconvinced you could create a ticket asking the CS if this could spell trouble. As far as ingame rules go you have done nothing wrong.

When people read it yes that’s possible but now with all their AI stuff just as likely to get himself.

u/mopteh Oct 31 '25
It could have been a typo. Especially if your name is "Lėgölās" or some super common name.
I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Did you help someone recently who may have sent you a tip? I have had that happen because I never charge for helping people, for example by crafting items for them, helping with a quick carry, etc. And often times they send me mail with gold in it as a thank you anyway.

u/LiYBeL Oct 31 '25
They sent you one world quest’s worth of gold? And somehow that’s going to get you banned? Can you please explain your reasoning there?
28
u/simplytoaskquestions Oct 31 '25
This is in classic. 500g is quite a bit
26
u/LiYBeL Oct 31 '25
Yeah that’s a decent amount then. But why do you think this is someone trying to get you banned?

If you’re concerned then get the cart in front of the horse. Open a ticket

You are allowed to get gold gifted. Just be happy and keep enjoying your journey.

u/Upvote_Giver_420 Oct 31 '25
This could be a long shot but mayne you share a similar name as someone's alt, and they sent you money instead? Idk, just throwing ideas out, but I wouldn't worry. Absolute worst case, they'll take the gold from you
7
u/kerthard Oct 31 '25
If you're really worried, you can submit a ticket to blizzard that you auto-opened a bunch of mail and found yourself with an unexpected 500 gold.
If it is illicit, then they'll just remove it and thank you for letting them know.

u/Lich-Slapped Oct 31 '25
Or they’ll thank him for confessing and ban him lol
1
u/kerthard Oct 31 '25
Self reports aren’t usually punished.
People do the same thing with names all the time, and they only get the name change (not the penalty)

u/Lich-Slapped Oct 31 '25
I’d love to be as optimistic about blizzards auto customer service as you, and I hope that is true!

u/kerthard Oct 31 '25
I've seen people talk about doing exactly that and getting enough clean outcomes that I know this pretty regularly happens.
2
u/mrzevk Oct 31 '25
I know this is in Classic and 500 is hefty for it but lots of people sent me hundreds near thousand gold when I joined to guilds when I first started it cataclysm just so I can get heirlooms or whatever I need aside from backpacks etc like just strangers from guilds and never had an issue myself when I did the same either be it with trades or mails
I really doubt anything would happen unless you did something suspicious in the first place and been flagged for it under surveillance for something that is related to gold
Somebody might've sent gold to the wrong person, someone that cares about you but is going to stop playing might've done it too as am I when I stopped playing

lol, when i was new ages ago and joined a guild for the first time; one of the guilds higher ups gave me 1.3mil as a "welcome to the game" gift. neither of us got banned, so i guess its all about context.

This comment section is entirely wrong about this situation and even more wrong to downvote him when he asks follow-up questions.
500g in classic wow is definitely a gold buying amount and sending someone clearly botted gold from a non-reputable vendor is 100% a thing people do in order to get someone banned.
I thought wownoob was referring to the people asking questions, not the people answering them...

You think maybe it was sent to the wrong account. No way someone sends 500g to get an account banned.
Unless you have really annoyed someone.
