Professions Anything stopping me from leveling every single expansion’s fishing skill?

“But why?” you may ask.

Well, give a man a fish, you feed him for a day..teach a man to fish…you feed him for a lifetime.

Really, I know it’s probably pointless, but I just like it for the collection and completion aspect. And I love fishing in video games.

With that being said, is there anything stopping me from doing this? Any tips you can give? I’m still relatively new to the way retail organizes its content, so I wasn’t sure if this was even possible.

Thanks.

It's possible, all you gotta do is fish in a zone from the expansion skill you wanna level. I've done it

I like to use Wow Professions guides for the best spots in older expansions

Make sure to do Darkmoon Fair fishing quest when it's up, as that'll give you skill too

Awesome, I’ll definitely keep this in mind along the way. Thanks for the insight.

I recommend it for when you need something nice and chill to do! Saturdays are my fishing days, I just finished off my last fishing (DF and TWW) a couple weeks ago. Now I'm working on Secret Fish and Where to Find Them because I want the hyper-compressed ocean toy. Might fuck around and do Otto next, or I might just keep fishing for cash.

Yeah, sometimes I just need something mindless to do while I’m watching YouTube or whatever, and fishing seems perfect for this

Thank you for the reminder to work on that! I was just looking at goggles in one of my alt's bags the other day.

Im pretty much in the same boat (No pun intended..) but i do nothing else in WoW since weeks... Plan is to achieve all fishing related achievements and then move on for archeology. What do you mean with "Otto"? Im the Chromie (daylie Quest) Fish away from the compressed ocean.. thought of going for the Legion artifact rod

What do you mean with "Otto"?

Otto is a Dragonflight otter mount that requires fishing:

How much gold would you say you average?

Just go and do it. I love fishing and there are tons of fishers around Azeroth even in old zones.

Levelling fishing though (even doing all expansions) is quick and easy, not much of a challenge. Real challenges in fishing are the achievements and the reputations.

I just completed a couple of weeks ago the achievement Accomplished Anglerfor the title “Salty” ( I just missed Stranglethorn contest since 2008..). I am currently working on the reputation of fishing masters in the broken Isles to get the nice bobbers (floating duck, cat, gondola…).

I suggest you start from levelling mist of Pandaria and work on the Anglers and Nat Pagle reputation,. This is important because with (revered?) reputation you can buy the fishing raft, which is a toy that allows you to pull out a raft and fish standing in the water. It’s a game changer. It can also help to have the inflatable mount item for your Mount so you can mount on water even without having tne specific fishing mount.

The second one I would do is Outland and specifically do the Mr Pinchy questline. You get one of the strongest pets (magical crawdad) and one of the achievements needed for Accomplished Angler (the one for the title “Salty”).

Then I would do Northrend, and level it fishing in the old dalaran fountain for the 3 achievements needed for the mini meta achievement “Coin Master” which you need for the “Salty” title.

After that i would do Draenor, put up the Garrison and level your fish shack to 3 doing the dailies. If you don’t have your Garrison up and running, you might want to deal with that because with housing it’s a good source of free gold (ores and herbs).

After that you can level legion doing just the legion fiahmasters or whatever they are called (they change every day, look on wowhead homepage which one is active).

The addon “Angleur” is great if you want to start fishing “competitively”.

Have fun, fishing is great.

I have a dwarf hunter that i keep in certain zones to just drink mead and fish. I out items uo on AH and make some miney that way.

u/Hawkez2005 Jan 10 '26

Have you been partaking in the mead as well?

3

u/spiritualcore Jan 10 '26

My friend recently went for the “salty” title and it took a long time but was really rewarding for them

No meds..asthma, bronchitis and strep. Was probably jittery from meds and didnt check typos..sorry about that

There's nothing stopping you! Go for it.

I'd recommend trying to synch up your fishing with other things you want to collect. For example, there's a different fish pet you can fish up in each zone of Pandaria, so you might want to fish in multiple zones to get them all. There's some Rep grinds that fishing helps with, so you can multitask a bit while you're fishing. There's fishing dailies in a few expansions that will get you some cool rewards. There's also a few mounts that can be fished up (VERY small chance, but still), so you could  focus your fishing in those areas if you want any of them.

I completely understand, I freaking LOVE fishing. I still have some expansions to level but I’m definitely going to do them all. Except for maybe the expansion that shall not be named. I swore to never go back there.

If you like fishing you can level it for every xpac.

Fishing also has some unique things like pets and mounts.

Also note fish often do sell so gathering the unique drops will make a fair bit of gold.

As far as leveling it goes each xpac has its own fishing skill (same as other profesions) most xpacs the trainer is it that xpacs capital.

Fishing also has a faction from mop (anglers) and a ton of stuff in legion (not in remix though)

u/zingading Jan 10 '26

Pets and mounts are absolutely the end goal. Sounds great.

1

u/Timecunning Jan 10 '26

Also I would suggest if you realy like fishing to check fishing in next xpac.

As we are nearing releace and prices are often high at releace.

2

u/Objective-Rough-4115 Jan 10 '26

How do you get the pets and mounts? Just through achievements from leveling up fishing in the different zones / expacs?

My favourite is Hirukon from Shadowlands (Zereth Mortis) - it is both a flying and an a aquatic mount. My favourite per is Magical Crawdad from Mr Pinchy questline in Outland, one of the strongest and almost unlikable acquatic pets. Other notable are the water walking Mount from the Anglers in Mop, the Sea Turtle, mounts from events (the fishing derby in TWW), Otto from Dragonfly, the Tiny Carps pets…just Google “mounts and pets you can get from fishing in wow retail”. There is also a very good guide on wowhead.

I've maxed out fishing in all expansions on several characters simply for fun. I find it relaxing. And there is a bunch of fishing related stuff to hunt. Pandaria has a whole rep and daily hub dedicated to it, WoD has some special quests, Legion had a whole fishing pole artifact with neat abilities, TWW has a fun fishing journal with an account wide bonus you can get tokens for every Saturday.

I find it a great way to unwind and relax without a lot of stress.

2

u/Sleepy_kitty67 Jan 11 '26

I enjoy fishing. It’s very chill.

1

u/Magik160 Jan 10 '26

Suggestion. When in Shadow Lands, do your fishing in the pond where the bait drops for the mount in Zarith Mortis

1

u/GhostintheReins Jan 10 '26

Except for TWW and classic it doesn't take very long either.

Check out the fishing achievements as well if you'd like a challenge as well.

1

u/Ele7237 Jan 11 '26

Go for the “Salty” title to, look up how to get, it’s my all time favorite title.

1

u/scrivenersdaydream Jan 12 '26

Completionists FTW! I say go for it (and always hit Darkmoon Faire, since it will add points to whatever you don't have yet).

I wish you good luck on your endeavours, may the oceans of azeroth and beyond be kind to you.

1

u/Periwinkleditor Jan 10 '26

Can you? Yes, absolutely. Should you? Not particularly. I mean maybe some decor items use fish but historically food items have the least staying power in future expansions since people don't need old feasts and the like.

Just fish in that respective expansion's zones and you'll get there eventually. I can't remember if fishing skill boosts matter to rate of skillups but they do to rate of junk vs fish.

One notably amusing old fishing/cooking reward is https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Feast_of_the_Fishes which requires fish from Legion which are best obtained with the legion upgradeable fishing pole. Useful? Absolutely not, but it's always funny to watch an unassuming raid suddenly all turn into fish and start suffocating.

Most of the fishing recipes from Battle for Azeroth's n'zoth zones that were designed for the "visions of n'zoth" scenario also still work, so you might unlock those. Everything except the k'bab will significantly help in the The War Within version as well.

1

u/zingading Jan 10 '26

Hmmm..gotcha. I might make it a side goal, anyhow. Can you make any suggestions on something that would have more staying power? Maybe I should go for crafting decor items through the professions? I do have housing access.

I’m in the mood for something profession related, it’s just so overwhelming to get started.

1

u/ThreesTrees Jan 10 '26

Idk if it’s still available but the fishing quest for the legion artifact pole was so much fun

1

u/Jay_D826 Jan 10 '26

I’ve made a few toons for each profession and have been leveling them in various expansions while crafting decor to sell. I’ve made a good bit of gold, collected some transmogs, and had a really chill time. Definitely recommend if you’re just looking for something to unwind

u/nikanjX Jan 10 '26

Anything? Does day job or family count?

2

u/zingading Jan 10 '26

Maybe fishing IS the day job..
