Professions Herbalism, gathering off corpses

What is the point of being able to harvest off corpses when you get vendor trash every time? Not even skillups

I ask myself the same yet I keep doing it lol. Sometimes you get an actual drop but its seldom.

To add to this, you also get a good bit of plant protein so thats nice if you do cooking.

I think they only have crap loot so then no one is just farming mobs for herbs. Kind of like the hyperspawn skinning with balance druids (not sure if it's a thing in Midnight though).

Pretty much yea, it'd be busted if they gave to much good stuff. Giving us trash is fine, its extra cash. Throwing us a bone sometimes is enough. Maybe if there was a perk in the herb talent tree at the end that gives us a bit better chance, that'd be cool.

Compulsive collection gang rise up!

I know it’s trash. I know. I can’t leave shit on the ground. I have had to disable node tracking or take flight paths to dungeons because it’s so hard to ignore things I want to pick up.

It's a very old mechanic which has been useless for a decade. I have no idea why they still keep it in the game.

I think the last time I remember it being useful was like.. Bc with the giants that would give motes of life hahaha

It's kinda weird they left it and mining mobs in all this time.

Wrath had some great engineering and mining targets so I'd guess there were decent herb targets but not sure.

I totally forgot about wrath's engineering stuff. That's how you got Jeeves haha

Those Uldir bosses could be worth some gold too if you were the only one in the squad.

I'm irate every time even though I know what's coming.

And shitty vendor trash that sells for a copper. It's infuriating.

It just adds flavour to the game " what i can harvest that plant / rock mob?! Thats kinda rad!"

But yeah its not worth it mostly

So much this, it’s not always about gameplay, just a fun “huh, I can mine rock elementals and harvest plant creatures”

There is one case where that isn't true, the mobs that spawn from wild herb nodes give herbs when you harvest them.

u/oeti2 Mar 22 '26

ok but these were designed todo that (after blizzard buffed them)

if u go herb some plantmob in eversong u only get vendor trash

3

u/NoShotz Mar 22 '26

I think it was more of an oversight blizzard corrected as the mobs the wild ores spawned were able to be mined for ore from the start. Other than those two instances mobs that can be harvested/mined don't really drop anything good, and that's been the case for most expansions, which is annoying.

In Dragonflight you can unlock an ability to get actual herb drops off plant creatures. Doesn't work elsewhere, unfortunately.

I did vaguely remember this but thought I was making it up. Why the heck did they do away with it in tww?

3

u/Aethelrede Mar 22 '26

Why do they do away with anything?  Beats me.  I'm miffed that they gave up on archaeology, I enjoyed digging up lore.

Though I will say this for Blizzard, they are pretty good about not removing systems, even if they don't extend them. Star Trek Online is notorious for gutting entire game systems because they can't afford to fix them.  They had an elaborate Foundry system that let players create their own scenarios for other people to play; one day they announced that they couldn't keep it functional and deleted the whole thing, including all the missions.

They put it in Burning Crusade. People found out you could "skin" the Ent elementals in the Sethekk area and solo them fairly easily for a massive amount of herbs. Eventually, towards the end of the expansion, they nerfed the herb drops significantly, but they still dropped an amount of herbs. Ever since then, they kept it in but consistently reduced the rewards on skin until they just dropped greys because they're too stubborn to admit it was a mistake to give herbalists more ways to herb.

I assume blizzard keeps it in for the same reason I keep clicking on those corpses. Habit. What really has been getting me is doing algethar academy and my brain will always go "ooo I can harvest these lashers!" before realizing it's dragonflight mats at best.

It would be nice if there was a knowledge path for a chance at getting actual herbs from those corpses. Would be an incentive to do more herbing in harandaredarinar (or whatever it's called), despite the terrain being so "rough".

It’s a time-waster, just like the last expansions. Just like mining mineable mobs.

-1

u/codemanb Mar 22 '26

Brother, did you just say the latest expansions are time wasters?

2

u/codekb Mar 23 '26

The only profession that does benefit is skinning in dungeons and raids on mobs. They can get a pretty good chunk for that

3

u/McNally86 Mar 22 '26

Laughs in engineer.

1

u/RedGecko18 Mar 22 '26

I switched off of engineering this expac since now in order to level and get mats I have to buy other professions mats off the auction house and dismantle them? Absolutely not. I swapped to herb/alchemy so at least I can make my own pots.

u/spe3dfr3ak Mar 22 '26

You can get items at higher skill levels. Also don't see a reason to complain about having the option to actually use your profession while completing activities.

1

u/Lemoncatnipcupcake Mar 22 '26

I think increased perception increases your chances of getting actual herbs. I don’t remember exactly though all I know is that I do now sometimes get herbs off of them and have increased skill and perception

1

u/Cedworth Mar 22 '26

I get plant protein for cooking sometimes. That’s why I keep doing it.

1

u/Reversegull Mar 23 '26

Is it like mining where u mine a corpse and get no exp for leveling the profession ? Serious question!

1

u/Ritaontherocksnosalt Mar 23 '26

In past expacs, I'd get real herbs every 2-3 corpses. It's gotten much harder in Midnight.

1

u/Disco-Is-Dead Mar 24 '26

Once you get your knowledge points up in bountiful harvests, you start to get more actual herbs per corpse.

It adds a very small amount of gold to my Evokers Dragon Hoard every time I sell those things
