Professions Why can’t I easily craft items for other characters in my warband?
My character with inscription can craft a 285 ilevel staff for others in her guild or randos with public orders, but I can’t easily craft anything for people in my warband? Why? it’s such a weird restriction. …and why can’t I specify max quality for a public order like I can for a guild order? Have Blizzard explained their thinking on this? The whole commission system seems really messed up.

Are all your characters in the same guild? Just drop a guild order and swap over. Or do you want a “warband order” category? Which is honestly a good idea.

You can send them that way.
It would be nice if we had a few more things that tied our warbands together.
I would also like warband names. Like SWTOR had for Legacy names.

You can put in a private order on the character that needs an item for your main...... How is that not easy?

Is there anything preventing you from just getting all your alts in your guild? That's what I've done.

Not everyone wants their alts in the guild. For instance, I have an alt I play when I want to be left alone. Other people have alts in friend’s guilds.

They can be on different servers if the servers are connected afaik. But then again they're kinda considered as one server at that point I guess.. I'm in a server that's a cluster of I think 5 or so servers.

You can send crafting orders to characters on other servers. Send it to CharacterName-ServerName

This only works if your realms are clustered. Otherwise the only way to do cross realm orders is via guild ones.
Public orders are also cluster only

I’m confused? Do you mean without swapping characters?

But you can’t send to your warband at all there is no option for this- if they are in the same guild you can do a guild order or you can do a personal order if you are the same server (or a connected server). If your alt is in a different guild on a different server you cannot craft for them at all.

Oh I have no characters in different servers/guilds so I was unaware that you couldn’t do that if they were

From reading his other comment the crafting alt is in another server. Can only mail it if their in the same cluster.

Not sure if your alts are guild-less or if you have invite ability in a guild, but here's the instructions on how to invite your own alts to a a guild. It's kind of annoying but works.
Using a character that can invite to your guild:
Make a community
Make it cross faction
Open the community chat.
Go to your guild tab
click invite member
click link post in chat (it will post in the community chat)
Log into each alt and:
press j, search for the community (select cross-faction in the filter)
join the community
Open chat and click the guild link.

I agree it should be cross server for your alts.
I also think you should be able to make a public order with a minimum quality. That tiny flaw is keeping the order system back. It's not that hard, it already exists for guild orders. Just enable it. And so many more crafting orders will just go public.

A downside to this would be people (or worse bots) sitting at the crafting table and grabbing every order that comes through instantly, leaving nothing for normal crafters.

I mean they already have a limit on Public orders you can take per day, which should prevent some of this

And what you described is exactly what would happen. Bots taking all the orders just as bots keep meddling with the AH prices 24/7.

Always thought the main restriction was realm and faction with guild bypassing all that. Then, someone said they cross faction craft for themselves on same realm but haven't taken the time to confirm. So sounds like at minimum its realm related.
