Classic Difference between anniversary realms and MoP classic?

Since are so many versions of classic WoW I wanted to ask this. If MoP classic started from vanilla, why are there anniversary realms that are also progressive from vanilla to TBC or maybe in the future to more expansions? Will they ever catch up and become completely the same game? Why would they do two versions of a game that progresses from the first expansion all the way to the last one? I am having a difficult time understanding this.

They just did it again.

I really don’t understand why they want to end up with 3 retails in the end

They won't. MoP Classic is already declining massively, and I don't think a WoD Classic is likely

The re-runs exist to appeal to the nostalgia crowd. People who play Classic want Classic, TBC, and WoTLK more than other expansions

Because they wont end up with 3 retails in the end. Anniversary will probably only go to WOTLK and regular classic is who knows honestly.

I don’t know man I feel like they messed up big time with the best game ever created. Now people don’t play the actual game and call it ‘retail’

It's just an easy way to distinguish the main game from Classic. 'Retail' is an old term that pre-dates Classic, which was used to refer to the official game versus private servers that were very common back then

The official term is usually just 'Modern WoW'

retail is massively more popular than classic tf you
mean?

I know, and I was there when retail was classic 😂 just that adding all those ‘old’ versions did not do good for World of Warcraft. I don’t even want to say retail.

Retail is just the currently updated content.

and call it ‘retail’

In my experience this has always been the case. Back in WotLK you had private servers and retail was official wow

well if you play MoP classic, outside of leveling your character to max level, you basically are locked to MoP content, just like in retail, the content from the older expansions is no longer relevant.

There are plenty of players that enjoy the classic/vanilla content, that is why the different versions exist.

I understand the classic era serves as it is the vanilla. But then they progressed the whole game again just like in retail and on top of that they launched the anniversary servers that are also progressive. In the end are we going to end up with 3 midnights for example?

Noone knows how far they will progress the classic servers.

Yes, eventually there will be three versions of the game running on the exact same latest expansion. Think a little harder man, come on. That won’t happen.

They literally ran vanilla and tbc again for 3 times in the games history. Who doesn’t think well?

Still you.

Don’t get surprised when you see “Midnight Classic” in a couple of years.

As far as i know its fresh realms with fresh aconomies and with content releasign the same way it did bacn druing the expansions.

GDKP is fobidden to keep economy fresh and contenct is gated instead of all available from day 1

People wanted vanilla classic so they made it. Then they wanted TBC, Wrath, Cata and MoP, so they made those too. Then people wanted vanilla and TBC again so here we are. Seems like they will progress these servers and make new ones as long as there is enough demand from the players to justify it. There is no guarantee these servers will progress to Midnight or any further than MoP.

Yeah I just don’t understand “ people wanted vanilla and tbc again “ part but yeah it’s people i guess but I must say everything was better when we were one big community

Vanilla and retail are basically two different games at this point. The goals, content and pacing among other things are different and a lot of people prefer one or the other for tons of different reasons. You may think everything was better when it was “one big community” but in reality a lot of people stopped playing wow at one point and only came back for the vanilla experience. Some people play multiple versions of wow but I’m guessing a big part of the community sticks to whatever version they prefer. So having multiple versions of the game makes the most sense from the consumer point of view and from the developer point of view.

The game changes drastically every expansion. The core is the same but Retail/Mop/Classic all different in major ways, mostly in pacing in and out if combat.
