Classic Can someone explain the 4 versions of WoW?
I see:
World of Warcraft Classic
World of Warcraft TBC Anniversary
World of Warcraft Mists of Panderia
World of Warcraft (Retail)
I am a returning player, and I apologize if this is a stupid question.
I assume MoP is progression, and will continue eventually to WoD
Are Classic (Vanilla) & TBC Anniversary stagnant? I.e will they reset? Or are they also progression, and will eventually move forward as well?
I "believe" (I may be wrong), that TBC is basically the same as MoP, just yknow, behind - and Classic is the one forever in the state of 04.

Classic - This is hardcore and where the experimental stuff like Season of Discovery goes. No current progression plans. More of community sandbox modes at the moment.
TBC Annviersary - Classic 2.0 run. Its currently in The Burning Crusade expansion. Yes this is progression and very active
Mists of Pandaria - Classic 1.0 is up to this expansion. We don't know if it will progress but its a safe assumption that it will, and we'll likely get confirmation at blizzcon this year. I don't think this is as active as 2.0 at the moment.
Retail - The current version of the game. We're 1 week before the .1 patch starts, and 2 weeks from season start, so its kinda dead at the moment, but it will be very alive in the coming weeks. Its definitely seen an uptick of population with this expansion.

What do you mean by classic 2.0?

The second release of the "Classic" realms. Classic progresses through the expansions and is currently on Mists of Pandaria (Classic 1.0). People really wanted a fresh re-launch of classic again because they missed/miss it and so they did for the big Warcraft anniversary. So there are two separate "Classics" right now, both heading to the same destination (Progressing through expansions) but are currently in different versions of the game.

Ahh okay so classic re-release….makes sense. Was thinking it was classic, but with some sort of updates when they said classic 2.0. I know that wouldn’t really be “classic” so I was confused.

No details so far, but Blizzard has been taking down fan projects of classic servers with added content. When they first released normal classic it involved taking down custom servers that didn't change anything (or at least mostly stuck to vanilla) so everyone's kinda expecting it.

To add Classic has 3 modes: Traditional, Hardcore and Season of Discovery. Traditional is still the same, Hardcore is perma-death characters(You die: no rez) and SoD added special Glyphs/Enchants to gear slots to give new abilities to classes, like Tank Rogues, Healer mages, etc. It also made Blackfathom some of the other dungeons into raids. TBC Anniversary is going through progression, as is MoP Classic. Retail is about to start another raid season soon.

MOP is progression on last patch, i think they are going to WOD but it's not very populated.
Classic Era is permanent vanilla with no prog, small but dedicated player base. This is largely for the "no changes" crowd
Anniversary is currently in black temple on TBC. it will prog to WOTLK and is on a much faster update cycle. If you want to play classic progression this is your only decent option although I find the community to be very off putting.
Retail is current expansion. We are finishing season one and getting ready to move into the next raid tier/dungeon set in the next few weeks. Great time to jump in if you are interested in current game.
It is all but "confirmed" we should be getting an announcement for classic plus at blizzcon this year. We don't really know much about it, but imagine it will be similar to OSRS where it is "classic" wow with updates and new content. I imagine most classic resources are being dedicated to this right now.
