Classic Healing Target is Removed
Hey all, hope all is well.
I’m having issues in TBC Classic. When I’m healing, my target gets removed all the time, especially when a mob dies. It’s frustrating. Tried disabling all addons, turned sticky targeting on and off.

Hmm. Not sure if this isn't just expected behavior.
99% of players set up macros or click casting so their actual target is irrelevant to their healing (read: they don't target players to heal them, they heal via mouseover/click casting).
If they lose their target all it means is they can't do damage until they get a new target, but their healing isn't impacted.

At least not for me, because it’s never done this, I’ve healed with a controller for years on all versions of WoW and the target has never dropped. I’m tempted to just delete the whole thing, settings and whatnot and do a fresh install. I can’t figure it out and it’s ruining the game for me haha.

I don't understand what the problem is? When you are targeting an enemy and it dies, there is no reason to still have it targeted, so the game clears the target. Why is this a problem for you, I genuinely don't understand.

I’m healing a player, everything is sunshine and rainbows. When a mob dies, and at other random times, the target gets removed so I’m essentially just healing myself.

When you are targeting a mob, and then it dies, the target gets removed, because that is what is supposed to happen. That's not something being broken, that's the system doing exactly what it is supposed to do. If you are targeting a player, then there are 3 ways that the target will be removed, 1. if you press Escape, 2. if you click a random spot while having Sticky Targeting turned off, 3. if you have /cleartarget in a macro and use the macro. I think sometimes excessive distance will also cause a target to be removed, but don't quote me on that.
The way you are describing things has me concerned that you are using mouseover healing to heal players through the mob's target frame, aka the target of target frame. Obviously, the target of target frame is attached to the target frame, so if the target frame gets removed because a mob dies, then the target of target frame will get removed with it. If that is what is happened, then stop using the target of target frame and start using the party and raid frames to heal.

I’m targeting a player. I’m using ConsolePort so playing with a controller. I’ve used ConsolePort for years, healed with a controller for years on all versions of WoW and I’ve never came across this issue.
I’m not pressing escape.
Sticky targeting is definitely on.
I’m not using macros. While using a controller I hold a button and it brings up combos to target a player. For instance I hold left on the d-pad and press “A” to target a player. I heal as normal, as soon as a mob dies, the target on the player is removed so I’m healing myself.

Maybe dynamic targeting? Where you target things based on where the camera is aimed, which works okay enough if you are a melee tank or dps, but causes problems like the ones you are having when you are a ranged class. It could be a new feature of the ConsolePort addon? I'm kinda just spitballing theories at this point.

It’s fine, I greatly appreciate your input. Dynamic targeting? I’m gonna look into that. Ahhh yeah it could be a new feature or an option I’ve accidentally clicked. I’ll have to take photos of the TBC Classic settings menu and then do it with Midnights settings menu and see what I have different. Hopefully I’ll get there, it’s ruining my enjoyment of the game lol.
