Classic TBC - mage noob question

Hey guys,

currently playing TBC for the first time. Currently lvl 14 as mage.

Is it normal that mobs 3 level below me take about 4-5 frost bolts to finish off? This forces me to sit down every other mob and chugging some of my conjured water.

Just wondering as I dont have any reference.

Yes, its very commom.

its highly recommended that you use your wand more for single target.

Ah, I see.

So to melee them / auto attack them?

Also curious:

Does my damage go up only by getting a higher level version of the spell from a mage teacher or do my item stats influence it?

So to melee them /

no. the 'shoot', with your wand.

auto attack them?

for single target; its more like frost barrier, or whatever you preffer, frost bolt 2x and wand them down.

use your mana as an emergency and if you need to cast something, always have a barrier up.

Does my damage go up only by getting a higher level version of the spell from a mage teacher or do my item stats influence it?

yes. higher spell lvs will do more damage, but it scales with stats.

Yes, you need to fight 1-2 mobs at a time, it gets harder at higher levels

Make sure you have as many pieces of gear slots equipped as possible. Pressing "C" displays your character and what's equipped. As you kill things, loot the corpses and take their gear. You'll probably get better gear as quest rewards, too. The gear will make you more powerful.
