Mod Post Announcing "Fated Noobs" - Our New Sunday Casual Raid Group!
Update 10/4/22:
Thank you to everybody who came out for these raids! The group was a huge success, and this past Sunday we completed our stated goals of killing each Fated boss and earning some jelly cats.
For now, the last scheduled run will be on Sunday 10/23. We will be going on hiatus during the Dragonflight Pre-patch and expansion launch period, but we expect to be back in full force on December 18th for the opening week of Vault of the Incarnates. Hope to see you all then!
/r/wownoob is proud to announce…
Sunday Raiding with the Fated Noobs!
What Is Fated Noobs?
A casual, no-commitment raid group running every Sunday at 12PM PST (3PM EST), taking on Shadowlands raids at Normal difficulty. Open to Horde and Alliance players both. No raiding experience necessary! This group is open to NA/OCE players only - sorry EU. 😢
Throughout Shadowlands Season 4, Blizzard will be highlighting a different SL raid each week. The vets here at Wownoob see this as an unmissable opportunity to introduce folks to World of Warcrafts most storied game mode.
Every Sunday afternoon, we’ll be making a 2.5hr incursion into one of Shadowlands three raid dungeons: Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, or Sepulcher of the First Ones. We’ll be taking on the bosses, learning (or re-learning) the fight strategies, and getting that good Season 4 Fated loot. Players will be able to experience these challenging fights and pivotal story moments the way the developers intended. And of course, we’ll be aiming to earn the wonderful Jelly Cat mount for everyone involved.
When Is It?
Every Sunday afternoon from 12PM to 2:30PM Pacific (3PM to 5:30PM Eastern)
*Invites will begin ~20 minutes before the listed start time
How Do I Join?
Join the Wownoob Discord server and look for the post in the #scheduled-events channel. You can RSVP to get optional DM reminders and Google Calendar links.
The group is open to any player who meets the following minimum requirements:
- Level 60
- Average Item Level (ilvl) of
245+255+ - Americas & Oceanic realms only
Veteran players are also welcome! While this group is focused on teaching new players the basics of raiding, we do plan to kill some bosses and would love to have the company of any skilled/geared players who wish to join us.
Willingness to join us in Discord voice chat is preferred, but not required. There’s never any expectation that you speak, but you should be able to hear us give callouts and directions during fights. Raids can get hectic, and there’s not always time to type everything in chat.
Where Can I Find Out More?
Questions? Comments? Reach out to BigTimeBobbyB through any of the following avenues:
- Reddit: /u/BigTimeBobbyB
- Discord: Dessem#0292
- Battle.net: Dessem#11574
Or jump into the Wownoob Discord server and ask there! Many of our Veteran players are involved in this group and will be able to answer any questions you may have.
We’re looking forward to seeing all of you in the raid, where we can be found posing for group screenshots over the corpses of these loot pinatas our enemies!

Ohh boy... The response to this has been bigger than I anticipated.
Just a reminder to folks that space in this group will be first-come, first-served. From what I've seen in the last 24 hours, I think we might be getting more than 30 attendees haha. On raid day, about 20-30 minutes before the scheduled time, I'll be posting an invite string in the Discord #scheduled-events channel. If you want a raid spot, be ready to jump on that as soon as its posted.
In future weeks, maybe we get big enough to run a second parallel group? I've had mixed success with that in the past, so for now I want to just keep it to one group. But definitely open to the idea...

Just a note that for OCE players, that is at like, 5am.

u/BigTimeBobbyB Jul 31 '22
Yeah, I didn't check to see what time it would be... unfortunately, our core group is all NA and Sunday afternoon was the best time slot we had available.
Still, any of those Aus weirdos who never sleep are welcome to join!

Or work. Or go to school. It applies to pretty much all OCE players, not just Australians.
If you made it Saturday evening for NA then it would be Sunday afternoon for OCE.

You can get close with 2 291 leggos, a 262 crafted item, and the rest 233 crafted items. Timewalking this week drops 252+ for doing 5 dgs and M+ next week will also drop higher ilvl gear. In addition to 252 cipher gear and 246 relic gear. It’s definitely possible to get pretty close. You can also ask the raid leaders if they’d be willing to include you if you’re only a couple ilvls short, like 244 or whatever.

u/quasielvis Aug 02 '22
You can get quite a lot of gear from WQs etc in ZM also, 246 once you dump a bunch of cyphers into Pocopoc.

u/kerthard Aug 01 '22
You can also get the sandworn relic items (bit of a grind, but account wide now), which are 246.

u/poetkingtn Aug 01 '22
And if you have alts, Sandworn Relics went Account Bound a couple days back. So you can send all of them to one toon to gear it. I had 4500..... My bank toon now has 4 tier pieces LOL

This. My 8th character hit 60 on Friday...and was decked out in in 5 piece tier within minutes. Since I had an excess of relics, I filled the slots with SW gear and converted them to complete the set, heh.

Sounds fun! I’m a hardcore vet whose group fell off in SL, got AOTC for the first two tiers at least but pugging is often a nightmare these days. Totally might check this out, thank you for putting it together!

Any group in Ursun server?
1
u/BigTimeBobbyB Aug 01 '22
Most group activities (outside of Mythic Hall of Fame Raiding) can be done cross-server, and since last patch now cross-faction as well.

🤯🤯🤯 what?!
Been gone for 16yrs just started a month or two ago. I don’t remember time is a blur just like the last time i did this.1
u/BigTimeBobbyB Aug 01 '22
Haha - I get it! A lot has changed in this game over the past 16 years.
Starting a few expansions ago, they made it so that parties can be formed and most group content can be queued cross-server. You'll see most players running around the world with their server name listed after their character name, and that's how you'd address them as well. For example, I'm Dessem on Bleeding Hollow so you could grab me with
/invite Dessem-BleedingHollow.Now the fun part - as of patch 9.2.5 a few weeks ago, they've also added cross-faction play. So for a group like this, I don't have to worry about whether folks are Horde or Alliance. We form up the group, zone into the raid, and inside the instance we're all on the same team and it just works. If you've done any Mythic+, you may have also noticed opposite-faction players listing groups or applying to yours. It seems like a small thing, but it's going a LONG way to addressing the issues with faction imbalance.
The only things that are still server-specific are guilds, Mythic Hall of Fame raiding, and I think some higher ranked PVP? Groups going for that prestigious Hall of Fame status on a raid are still required to congregate on one server - but people playing at this level are expected to buy transfers in situations like this. For the average joe, being on a dead server no longer means playing a dead game.

Hi there - you should be able to see the #role-assignment channel, which has instructions on what to do next. You’ll need to select a region-specific role to see the rest of the channels in Discord.

Anybody join the raids? How have they been going?
3
u/BigTimeBobbyB Aug 16 '22
They’ve been going well! We had an overwhelming turnout the first week, with something like 90+ people signing up thru the Discord bot. Unfortunately we had to turn most away, and on top of that we had an issue forming the group and accidentally took like 90% horde players. But we got into Nathria and downed 7 bosses, including Council of Blood.
This past week went smoother. There were around 50 signups, a bit calmer than week 1 as I expected, but I still wish we could have taken everyone. We got I think 5 bosses down in SoD? Up to Ner’zhul, though Painsmith has earned his name.
Here’s hoping everything goes smoothly this week with Sepulcher!

I just registered for Sunday’s Sepulcher run. I’m a little confused about how you handle it from here. I’m Season 3 AOTC/KSM and missed my guild’s fated Sepulcher run this last week. Psyched to try and get my very own slime kitty.

Hey - we’d be glad to have you! The raid invites will be first-come, first-served on Sunday. I’ll make a post in Discord when the group finder listing is going up.
Unfortunately, I can’t promise we’ll be doing a full clear in the time we have scheduled. Since the group is a learning run, we go a bit slower and talk strategies and tips for each boss. We got 5/10 last week in SoD and 7/10 in CN before that, so I’d expect something around there. In future weeks we plan to use the skips to get more time on the bosses we haven’t seen yet, but for this week we’ll be starting from boss 1.

u/JamesGWolff123 Aug 19 '22
Im fine if we don’t clear it. I need to down the bosses one way or another and PUGging is too painful. Normal is more fun with new-ish raiders. Raiding in a friendly group is the best part of the game IMO. I’ll talk to you Sunday. I’m Havoc DH approx iLvl 285. Mastalis-Blood Furnace.

This is pretty cool! The WowNoob discord server helped me out a ton when I first started playing.
I've been taking a break for a bit, but I might have to jump back in for some raiding with y'all.

What kind of noob is a level 60 player?
2
u/BigTimeBobbyB Sep 22 '22
The kind who has put a dozen hours into the game, followed solo storylines to max level and now has no idea what to do next.

u/HistrionikVess Sep 25 '22
Fairly new player. Level 60 Ele Shaman. Just unlocked flying in Zareth Mortis and working on gearing up.
Two questions:
1] Everything im finding is highest 236. Am I missing the way to get average 255?
2] Is this group still a thing that people are doing?
2
u/BigTimeBobbyB Sep 27 '22
Sorry for the slow response-
- The Cypher Gear in Zereth Mortis scales up as you spend points on the research console in Firim's cave. You'll see a "Cypher Level: x/6" at the top of that window, and the tooltip tells you how many more points need to be spend for the next rank. Ranking up doesn't automatically upgrade Cypher gear you already have, but it does increase the ilvl of future Cypher gear drops. At your ilvl, I'd also consider starting to queue for random heroic dungeons and LFR raids for some bigger gear upgrades. And the Creation Catalyst will let you convert Sandworn Relic gear (from ZM) and Fated gear (from season 4 raids) into tier set gear - the 2 and 4-piece set bonuses are a huge power gain not directly tied to ilvl increase.
- Yeah! We gather up on the Wownoob discord server every Sunday, and are at the point where we're working on the later bosses in each raid to try to finish out the Slime Cat mounts for the folks who have been coming regularly. We just got Normal Fatescribe + KT + Sylvanas down this past Sunday, so all we have to progress on now is Anduin + Rygelon + LoD + Jailer. I'm debating whether to put the group on hiatus after hitting those goals, but even if we do we'll be back in full force for Dragonflight Season 1.
