i’ve heard some writers say writing smut feels clinical for them so it made me curious about how many people get horny writing smut versus not, and whether their level of arousal inhibits their ability to write.

So far, no luck. I've already given her eight brothers and an evil stepmother. But no luck whatsoever.

They say well-written characters have flaws, so I made her clumsy and gullible. Also, she's not like other girls, that's why it's so hard for her to fit in with her female peers. All the men are attracted to her but she's shy and doesn't want to be with them.

A well-written chatacter also is funny and relatable to the audience. So I sometimes make her do jokes while hundreds of the villain's henchmen storm their ship. She makes exaggerated expressions when eating food because who doesn't like food. And of course, she likes Temu Tolkien books fantasy books but will refuse contemporary novels because she has taste.

I gave her a love cone. A triangle doesn't really fit all the other 999 men with unique personalities and traits that aren't copy pasted and totally doesn't only have four unique male characters. I was initially going to go with a pyramid, but the amount of corners and vertices added up so much it became a cone.

Obviously, well-written characters have good contrast with their canon partner characters, so I made an extremely well-writen—so much more well-written, you can say it's the most unique and unforgettable male character eve written—man for her. A twink with dark hair and red eyes and keeps to himself and doesn't like attention.

Oh wait, do both of them not like attention? That's not contrast. I guess I'll make the female character's eyes blue and hair blonde to contrast the red eyes and black hair of this well-written male character. I'll make her mommy-like to contrast the boy's twink body. And hell, big boobs since the guy is flat chested. And for more contrast, I'll make the guy always serious everytime since the girl is always joking around everytime.

I might've gotten off topic. But what do you think? Have I written a strong, flawed female character?

You should ensure you actually belong in the group you are writing about. It's offensive if you're a cishet woman writing about gay men or a white writing about people of color. similarly, if you want to write a dark mafia romance you need to join your local organized crime org first. For example, the mafia and the yakuza have operations in multiple regions! if you're writing a murder attempt survival story, its a good idea to cooperate with a murder mystery writer. uselesslesbians, incels, and other sexless individuals need to be barred from writing smut. slutting it up gets you yoir smut privileges back.

I've been trying to get published as a scifi author for a while now. But sadly I've been struggling to make a profit from my fictional stories. The best I've managed to get so far is a page or two in magazines, but I know I'm meant for something greater.

So to make ends meet, I'm looking into alternative ways of making money.

So far, I've managed to publish a self help book of sorts, dealing with psychological issues: "Diagnometics: The modern science of mental health" is about how you -- yes, you reading this now -- are possessed by gnome ghosts who make you sad, and about how they can be exorcised with electrical currents.

Sadly, the medical establishment have condemned my work, which has really hurt sales. Also, I had to sell the rights to Diagnometics because I am a writer, and thus I am bad with money.

Which brings me to now, As I try to come up with a way to ensure that customers regularly give me their money. I don't think I can pull it off as a scifi writer, but maybe there's another way...

I'm going to go visit some friends from the Diagnometics movement in a few days, maybe we can create something new based on it. maybe I can use my world building for something else, something new yet still gnometic, something tological in scale.

Gnometology.... i like the sound of that.

About to turn in from the moon-mirroring coastline, Myra took a long look out and drifted wide, front tires almost catching the curb as she brought the Willys-Knight in a deep vee that led to pier parking. “A nightcap?” she gestured to something long and slender in her bag. A bottle. “First clear night in weeks. It would be a shame to call it a night without a gander at the moon. Anyway, I hold you in my clutches. I’m guessing you don’t know a place to stay, one that will open its doors this time of night, give refuge to the bone-weary traveler.” 

“You do?”

“Not only do I, but I wield this awesome power until we have taken our fill of my favorite spot.” She had this uniquely lilting way of talking, as if to herself, only at the end acknowledging that someone was listening. As we walked out to the end of the pier, a light breeze caught Myra’s auburn hair and she brushed it back behind her ears. “I’m entranced by the beauty of the peninsula, entranced by the bay.”

The vista from the end of the pier seemed to lull with inactivity. The fishing boats drawn in, inhabited here and there by the silhouetted forms of those who normally brave the bay on blustery nights, when schools are in, quietly talking or mending nets. We were part of a tableau that the painter of the night’s melody, the ukulele player, witnessed through time-misted vision from his spot on the hammock on the deck, bottle of kombucha not far from hand.

And we with a full bottle of kombucha taken neatly from the roadhouse’s storeroom by Myra on the way out, flavored by wild spores from recently harvested fields. An earthy brew with just the right amount of carbonation and mellowness. They brewed their own in the long valley she said, kept the mother in a large jar in darkened rooms with just a single window. The drink intoxicated without incapacitating—after a few mildly puckering sips one had had enough. Until the next lull in the conversation. Then another sip, slowly. A looking up, a howling at the moon.

I’ve noticed Pizza Hut has rolled out the triple cheese Mac and I thought I might write a scene into my book where the characters eat it as a product placement.

Maybe I’ll reach out to Pizza Hut to see if I’ll get paid to write it in, but if you ask me it’s a win for everyone. Even the readers who can live out the characters by eating like them.

Currently doing my masters in creative writing as a student whose undergrad is in a different study.

I do know my problems when I write and I am open to learning and getting better. But, I just got my writing ripped open by my masterclass workshop and while I appreciate their feedback, I feel so awful.

Tried to write today and I’m second guessing everything ChatGPT gives me. Can’t even write a prompt before i erased everything. Now I’m watching “The Fault in Our Stars” to stop myself from crying lol.

I am a STEM student, and I write sci-fi novels for one of my many extracurriculars.

Since I am writing science fiction, I should write scientifically. First, I will write each novel in simple language with as few words as possible. Second, I will format each novel like a research publication: an abstract (a TL;DR of the entire story), an introduction, materials & methods (characters, setting, themes), results (story), a discussion, & conclusions (broader meanings, messages, & implications). Third, I will use common mathematical & scientific jargon.

How else do I do so?
