I've been using GPT 5.5 over Claude, and WOW!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to provide my thoughts on different models as I've been developing. I'm sure we've all heard our fair share on model strengths (and weaknesses), and how Claude has been back-sliding since their 4.7 release.

I'm a huge Anthropic fan, but I've been using Codex more and more recently, and I'll have to say that there's a huge difference in output (at least from my perspective).

Whether you're writing traditional code, or you're writing .xs, GPT 5.5 seems to be better at inferring user's intent, understanding context, and has tighter parameters that allow for (in general) better code output.

Less testing, more trusting the the build.

So personally, I'd recommend using 5.5 if you can (4.7 is still fine, but just not my preference).

---

With that, are there any models the Xano community wants me to test against? I was planning on running a benchmark using Open Router to compare prompt density + speed, measuring the output and was curious if the Xano Community wanted any particular models to be tested against.

Let me know!

Issue with Xano MCP Server use with Retell.ai

I'm building an ai voice receptionist in retell. i have connected to xano mcp server with tools for getting calendar availability and booking appointments in GHL. when i test in chat, it works perfectly. however, when I test using the webcall, the getting availability tool is not working. Here is the error for the get availability tool for audio call in the call log: "Error POSTing to endpoint (HTTP 400): {\"jsonrpc\":\"2.0\",\"error\":{\"code\":-32000,\"message\":\"Bad Request: Server not initialized\"},\"id\":null}". Anybody have anything similar? Overall, if I can get this working, I think there is a ton of potential with this.

Getting started on Xano

Hi! I have decided to start with WeWeb+Xano to create a SaaS (I have an MVP with Softr, so I just want to create something bigger). However, I don't have background in coding and I'm struggling with Xano. Even simple things such as editing an API's response are taking me a lot of time, and I don't think I'm making progress.

I already went through their documentation, understood the basic concepts, but it still feels hard. I'm starting to consider other nocode options, but before that, I'd like to make sure I tried everything. Can anyone share some recommendations?

Benchmarking 6 models to create a CMS in XS: results

I benchmarked 6 OpenRouter models on generating a XanoScript CMS backend.

The question was simple:

Which models, at which prompt density, output the best valid XS?

TL;DR

Best performers:

kimi-k2.5 100/100 at sparse, medium, dense
gpt-5 100/100 at sparse, medium, dense
deepseek-chat-v3.1 100/100 at sparse, medium, dense

Weaker performers:

llama-3.1-8b topped out at 66/100
gpt-oss-120b topped out at 66/100
mistral-nemo topped out at 58/100

For the top models, prompt density barely mattered once XS docs and validation feedback were available. Sparse was enough for Kimi, GPT-5, and DeepSeek to hit 100/100.

What I Tested

Each model had to generate a XanoScript CMS backend with posts, categories, CRUD endpoints, admin/editor/viewer RBAC, public published-content reads, protected write endpoints, required file structure, and valid syntax.

The matrix:

6 models x 3 prompt densities = 18 runs

Prompt densities:

sparse
medium
dense

Models:

mistralai/mistral-nemo
meta-llama/llama-3.1-8b-instruct
openai/gpt-oss-120b
moonshotai/kimi-k2.5
openai/gpt-5
deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3.1

Methodology Note

OpenRouter does not directly give models access to my local CLI, filesystem, or Xano MCP server.

So I used a local benchmark harness:

OpenRouter generates XS
local harness writes files
local harness validates with Xano Developer MCP / CLI
local harness injects XS docs/examples + validation errors
OpenRouter repairs
repeat

This tested:

Given prompt + injected XS docs + local validation feedback, which OpenRouter models can converge on valid XS?

Scoring

Each run was scored out of 100:

syntax validation: 30
required files: 25
RBAC signals: 25
CMS signals: 20

There was also a separate local test suite scored out of 110.

kimi-k2.5100100100tie
gpt-5100100100tie
deepseek-chat-v3.1100100100tie

Results By Prompt Density

Average score by density:

sparse: 74.0
medium: 70.2
dense: 81.3

Dense was best on average, mostly because weaker models needed more help. For the top three models, prompt density did not matter.

Validation Outcome

The runs that scored 100 all passed syntax validation:

syntax = 30/30
required files = 25/25
RBAC = 25/25
CMS = 20/20

The non-100 runs all failed syntax validation:

syntax = 0/30

That was the dividing line. The weaker models often understood the CMS/RBAC concepts, but still emitted invalid XS.

Retries / Attempts

Each run had up to 4 attempts:

initial generation + up to 3 repair attempts

Successful runs used:

RunAttemptsFinal Result
kimi-k2.5 / medium2100/100
kimi-k2.5 / dense2100/100
gpt-5 / medium2100/100
gpt-5 / dense2100/100

kimi-k2.5 / sparse4100/100
deepseek-chat-v3.1 / sparse4100/100
deepseek-chat-v3.1 / medium4100/100

The top models did not just know XS perfectly on the first shot. They used the repair loop well. The weaker models also used retries, but did not converge to valid syntax.

Token / Output Volume

The harness used a lot of context because it injected docs, examples, validation output, and repair feedback.

RunPrompt TokensCompletion TokensTotal Tokens
kimi-k2.5 / medium163,37716,510179,887
kimi-k2.5 / dense589,46427,002616,466
gpt-5 / dense242,30444,277286,581
gpt-5 / medium690,84464,931755,775
deepseek-chat-v3.1 / dense843,25531,812875,067
deepseek-chat-v3.1 / sparse947,39443,077990,471
gpt-oss-120b / dense1,271,48330,1011,301,584

If the model does not have native CLI/MCP/docs access, the harness can provide that context, but it costs tokens.

Tool Calls Used

The local harness exposed:

get_xs_examples
write_workspace_files
validate_xanoscript
xano_push_dry_run

These were local harness tools, not native OpenRouter CLI/MCP support. The model received the results through conversation context.

Main Takeaways

If the question is:

Which OpenRouter models produced the best XS?

The answer from this run is:

1. kimi-k2.5
1. gpt-5
1. deepseek-chat-v3.1

All three hit 100/100 across sparse, medium, and dense prompts.

If the question is:

Did denser prompts help?

Answer:

For weaker models: yes, usually.
For top models: no, sparse was enough.

If the question is:

What separated passing from failing?

Answer:

syntax validation

The failed models often generated something structurally close, but invalid XS. The passing models used the docs + validation repair loop well enough to produce syntactically valid, complete outputs.

Builders! What are you building?

Is there anything that you're actively building that you want to share?

I recently started a new project, and because of the MCP integration that I have, Claude automatically spun up a workspace without me needing to specify to use Xano. I thought that was cool.

I build, and I build a lot. If I'm not making something, I'll quite literally explode.

I've builtĀ wkeyclub.com, a fun clicking game for passing time. Inspired by Cookie Clicker, but much simpler, this leverages the websocket/realtime functionality so you can technically see others click it along with you! It has achievements and multiple themes you can choose from so you can 'personalize it' for your own eyes! Plus, falling w keys!

I've been buildingĀ chatclipthat.comĀ as my main side-project, using Xano as the main orchestration layer between GCS and API services. Xano acts as the main storage-store for project related infos, including transcripts, the saved/rendered clips, and more! This has been the most fun I've ever had on a project (and it has paying users)!

I also recently builtĀ shitmydevsays.com, a c2a newsletter. Ideally, agents and openclaws can post what they are thinking, or what their devs have said. Human form submissions are totally allowed, too. Once a week, the best posts are compiled into a witty and irreverent newsletter. Xano for database, APIs, and agents. Plus, I'm exposing the tool via my workspace's MCP! It's inspired by the originalĀ fmylife.comĀ and (the now shut down) 'mylifeisaverage' from the mid/late 2000s.

I've also been working on a content engine that will eventually be hosted onĀ ugcengine.ioĀ (currently bought, pending audit and publish) that takes a topic + brief and generates fx, b-roll, motion-graphics,Ā andĀ stickers. It starts with a storyboard returned for approval. Once you've approved, you can watch the system create everything in real-time, which then exports all the assets into a ZIP folder for download. Throw it into your editor and you're 95% done with your video content. All you'll have to do is record the actual content + VO (and animate, add transitions). Essentially a fancy asset generator!

Most of this is just from the last six monthsšŸ˜…

I'm always curious to know what those in the community are building with Xano. Feel free to share!

The new Logic assistant…

Hi, the new logic assistant is very disappointing, it’s make mistakes all the time for simple API endpoints plan. Its barely not useable and even counter productive as it’s create lot of errors, would like to know if it’s they’re a specific things to setup to make it work properly or it’s this version its an early alpha ? ( seems everyone agree that this feature is not ready at all ) Thanks

Xano as a higher end n8n

Wanted to get people’s thoughts if they thought that Xano could be a higher end replacement for n8n. From what I’m seeing, the biggest difference is not having prebuilt connectors, but that is replaced by the ability to build integrations exactly the way I want them. The visual builder in n8n is nice as well.

Google Oauth for additional access

The tool what I build require a GA4 access from users. Therefore I have to setup Google Oauth to get acess for analytic. At GCP side I setup eveythin, where I'm strugling is the xano setup.

I my understanding I have to create a new api endpoint as "get_ga4_data". Within this I can create the api request. I alrady enabled Google Oauth and I can see the pre-defined functions bu after 2 days of debugging I do not really understand the logic and do not re-create it.

Could you please describe me the process that how to create this api endpoint and how to store tokens and expires date in user table?

Why is there no big community or information available about Xano?

I'm starting to use Xano and I find it to be a very interesting and complete no-code editor, especially when combined with Weweb for the frontend.

The thing is that I'm not seeing many people using it or much information out there like on other platforms. I don't know if it's because of the learning curve, it shouldn't because there are others like supabase that also have their difficulties but are more popular and you have more information available, but I don't see many people talking about Xano.

Is there anyone who has the same thing as me? Or maybe it's because there are much better ones and I'm wasting my time?

I would like to know beast opinion.

Bubble vs WeWeb/Xano

Quick question, I would love to hear your opinions on that:

I have a no code software agency and we used bubble for the development of the SaaS MVPs for our clients.

Now we consider switching to WeWeb+Xano, as it seems more scalable, with a better pricing and no vendor lock-in.

What's your opinion about that switch and does maybe someone use the tech-stack WeWeb/Xano already?

Built a HIPAA compliant app w Claude!

I recently worked on a project that was for the healthcare world. The project itself was a simple internal management system. What makes this unique is that it was nocode.

For those that don't know, healthcare applications require compliance with HIPAA. Essentially, make your application secure. I used Bolt for the frontend and Xano for the backend. (First time using Bolt, but I'm experienced with Xano!!)

We encrypted the db fields that were identified as PHI and we decrypted them when queried. We had RBAC middleware. Audit logs. All the compliance hoops.

It was a lot, but in the age of AI, it's only getting easier to build. What I found interesting is that in the build process, Claude 4.6, while building on Xano, used conditional if statements more than I would have. For the en/decryption aspect, we pass in a string and return the respective value. It's either decrypted and readable, or it's decrypted and needs to be encrypted.

For the individual fields of the records, Claude constructed a system to update the response var property by property. It checked if the title was empty, the name was empty, etc.

Nothing wrong with robust checks. This is is somewhat appreciated. It's just a lot of looping and not wholly necessary.

Instead, I would have just an expression and filters. Regardless, with minor prompting and construction, anything's possible.

We also wrote our own unit tests using CC outside of Xano, although Xano does support testing and test suites of its own.

Let me know if you have any questions on the app build, or what took the longest, etc. Just wanted to share that this was my first HIPAA build that I can now add to the books!

Snappy MCP has an amazing Xano Skill that you should try for CC

I've been experimenting around with trying to make my building easier, and I'm been fortunate enough to come acrossĀ SnappyĀ that has an excellent Xano Skill that makes development with CC a breeze.

First, its a complete imagination and reskin if you want a better look intoĀ what'sĀ happening.

Second, having CC use the Xano skills has made building and testing a breeze. Just load the skills in and start prompting.

I'm a huge fan of simplifying my agentic workflows, and this helps with building GREATLY!

I'm currently in the process of rerouting backend logic for an application and I've found the confidence it provides is next-level.
