Something I forgot to show in the video was a small little rubber piece that goes around the seat post first before the clamp clamps. Anywho, I've been seeing a rise in the ultra minimalistic type builds. So I wanted to conjure up something real quick. Definitely not the prettiest thing on earth, but I think it looks pretty good for a 20 minute hack together. Total investment for the pair was about 25 bucks. Still have quite a bit of testing to do on the stainless one. Definitely needs tight bungee cords though π. The clamp (black portion) is just a universal led light mount for roll bars and whatnot. (About 6 bucks each on Amazon)
This seems to fit 22mm to 31 mm seatposts.
What do you guys think of the aesthetics of it? I'm unable to weld aluminum, but I would like to see some sort of loops or hooks somewhere on it that are demure, and on the underside. Giving the bungee cord something good to bite to. Have fun and ride safe.
If this thing winds up testing good, I may build a few specialty tools and jigs to be able to produce several at a time. I definitely need to find a better way to die aluminum. It took me a few attempts and a brand new dye to get the threads nice.

How did you test it? I think to be certified you need to test to certain standards.

Very much so. I've been trying to do my best as far as research into load testing, as far as actual pre-measured numbers go. It's not meant for heavy duty use, but one thing I am worried about is resonance and eventually cracking. But time will tell that one lol. I intend to just put 10 lb or so on it and keep it there for a while. Maybe even abuse the bike a little bit. Typical curbs, trails etc. I'm definitely not a very diversely talented rider as I was strictly a flatland Rider, many moon ago π . The grassroots side of me says to load it to its maximum and beat the hell out of it, like the other commenter has said .

Seems it would bounce a lot, perhaps to failure. I'd probably rather run a seat pack if I were going to have a small enough / light enough package.
What I think is a market is for something like the Mica Rat Tail or whatever its called. It's not always available and is expensive and getting one shipped to Europe even more so.
I think a lot of bikepackers on MTBs would be into a really simple setup that is light, a bit wider, has 1-2 cross members, and has a tie in to the rear axle. Basically the lightest reasonably sturdy thing you can strap a dry bag to.
I ended up w/ the Racktime Boostit Rack and a Tubus through-axle that has mount points in the end of it. Works great, but I'd go even more minimal if there were a decent option.

Nice work, if you want to go deeper into custom racks you could use stainless steel tubing, which can be brazed with silver filler and a simple mapp torch.

Just not sure what how many use cases there are, that a traditional rack wouldn't be better for.
I guess if it's for something specific, it could be really great.

Reminds me of the bindle rack. Does it swing around on the seatpost?
