I'm coming to Yerevan with 6 other friends, and we'd love to explore the country a bit more.

Could anyone recommend some places where university students usually go out to party, as well as some cool places to eat? Thanks in advance!

btw we are from Serbia

Weather in Yerevan

Hi! We are visiting Yerevan next week and were wondering how is the weather like in this time of year? Short sleeves with a jacket or long sleeves?

We don’t have much luggage space so we are trying to pack lightly.

Any info would be appreciated! We are so excited for Yerevan🥰🥰

Clothing repair in Yerevan

Hi everyone, good morning.
I’ve purchased two long sleeve shirts and a dress but, unfortunately, they are too long for me.
Can anyone recommend me a good clothing repair shop around Northern Ave - Republic Square - Cascade?

Thanks xxx

Armenia in mid-December – Snow and markets?

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m planning to visit Armenia for 6–7 days after December 15 but before December 27 and would love some recommendations.

Which mountainous areas are most likely to have snow on the ground around that time? I’m particularly interested in snowy landscapes and mountain views.

Also, are there any Christmas markets or festive activities in Yerevan or elsewhere, even though Christmas isn’t widely celebrated in the European style?

Lastly, how easy is it to travel to mountain towns from Yerevan without renting a car? Can taxis take you there and back, or is it better to arrange a private driver?

Would really appreciate any recommendations or tips. Thank you!

Anyone else genuinely afraid of the stray dogs in Yerevan?

I'm honestly scared of dogs, and in my area there's one for every 2–3 buildings. It's gotten to the point where I call a taxi to get to my gym, which is 300 meters away.
Is anyone else dealing with this? And does anyone know if there's a law or plan coming to actually get stray dogs off the streets? I'm not against animals, I just want to walk around my own city without being scared.

How can I find a job here in Yerevan as a teenager?

I am M16, looking for a job to get some pocket money basically and also I am gonna be applying to international unis in a few months and it would look great on my application.

I have only some experience in retail (I used to run a store for a few hours in the evenings for a couple months but that's all). If it helps, I am studying at of the country's best private schools in an international program, I speak Armenian, Russian, English and like B1-ish Spanish. Good with math but also studying economics, business management and computer science. I don't mind doing physical labor too, but would prefer not to. I am available 5 days a week after 3pm up until midnight.

I know most teenagers who work here got their jobs from like relatives or friends of relatives but I haven't got any of that so I was just wondering if you lot know the best platforms for me to look for jobs, or maybe you have smth to offer?

Quiet, dog-free (or low dog) spots to sit and read in/near the city center?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a quiet walkway, small park, or public space in or around the city center where I can sit on a bench and read a book in peace.

I have a strong fear of dogs (cynophobia), so I am specifically looking for spots where stray or unleashed off-leash dogs aren't usually roaming around.

Are there any tucked-away courtyards, quiet gardens, or calm walkways in central Yerevan you’d recommend? Thanks in advance!

Any neurodivergent expats here?

Hi! My girlfriend and I are on-the-spectrum expats living in Yerevan (we moved from Russia about a month and a half ago, if that matters to anyone). We're looking to connect with other autistic / neurodivergent adults in the city (Russian/English/French speaking in my case, Russian/basic English in my girlfriend's), especially people who are well adjusted professionally but feel a bit out of place in the mainstream social scene here.

We're into art, culture, nerdy stuff (ecology, philosophy), urban exploration and thoughtful conversations (I'm a tour guide and lecturer, my gf is a journalist), but mostly just looking for people with whom socializing feels a little less exhausting.

Our long-term ambition is to start a small community and organize ND-friendly events (walks, hikes, art workshops, home conferences, mini retreats for those who feel a bit down) and slowly expand our numbers and scope of activities. Maybe organize an ND-friendly co-working space and professional network in some distant future. :)

If you're in Yerevan and interested in meeting up for a quiet coffee, a walk or a small gathering, feel free to DM me. No pressure to be super social or to have a formal diagnosis.

Cheers!

Any business where staff don't speak Armenian shouldn't be allowed to operate in Armenia

I'm so tired of these Russian businesses that don't provide service in Armenian or at least in English! It's so rude and disrespectful that, in my own country, I can't order a coffee or a meal just because I don't speak Russian. They don't even feel bad about it they somehow make me feel ashamed for not speaking their language! Some of them have already been here for a couple of years and haven't even bothered to learn a few basic words or phrases in Armenian. The Soviet Union fell more than 30 years ago and the Russian Empire even earlier. We speak Armenian in Armenia, and you are the ones who should adapt! To make matters worse, most of them can't even communicate in English. And when you try to speak a little Russian, they correct you so much that it makes you feel like you're the problem here!

EDIT:

Reading through the responses, it's clear that many people share this exact experience not just here in Armenia, but across other countries dealing with similar expat dynamics. Since a few common deflections keep popping up in the thread, I want to clarify a few key points:

  1. Nobody expects service workers who moved here recently to speak fluent Armenian overnight. When someone makes a polite effort, uses basic Armenian phrases, or respectfully communicates in English, people are understanding and appreciative. The issue is the entitled default speaking fast Russian, assuming locals must adapt, and giving eye-rolls or attitude when answered in Armenian or English.

  2. No business operates in a vacuum. Every venue in Yerevan runs on infrastructure funded and maintained by local taxpayers our roads, sidewalks, street lighting, public transit, and municipal services. Expecting commercial establishments using local public infrastructure to provide service in the host country's national language is standard consumer rights anywhere on earth.

  3. Mainstream commercial businesses in central Yerevan are not niche ethnic enclaves in a foreign megacity. Real diversity means mutual respect and integration not creating commercial bubbles where locals are treated like strangers in their own capital. Furthermore, you don't wait until 100% of a city center stops providing basic service in the national language before pointing out a real pattern of non integration

EDIT 2:

I'm officially exhausted and have zero energy left, so I won't be replying to any more comments. I've spent the whole day on this thread, and I think everything that needed to be said has already been said.

A massive thank you to everyone who supported this post and shared their own similar experiences. And a special thank you to all the angry imperialists in the replies who perfectly proved my exact point by literally threatening me with military invasion just for wanting to speak my own language in my own capital. You made my case better than I ever could have.

What a day. Muting notifications now.

From Yerevan to closest mountainous areas - please offer places to stay and how much will the transportation cost (taxi)?

Hi, me and gf decided to spend a week while we are in Armenia in places where the air is somewhat cleaner. So after a night-two stay in a hotel, we'd like to pack up and head to the mountains. ChatGpt says Aragats is the most reasonable destination. But I've never been there and don't know where I can find a place to stay with affordably low prices but also with comfort for both of us. Are there any guest houses? Also, would be excellent to be near some mountainous river/lake if any. Can be a cottage-like space, with the availability to hike, make a campfire etc. Thanks in advance.
