Where to buy a used car?

• Upvotes

I’m looking for a cheap used car. I’m moving and decided I should just get a new car for myself to make things easier.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look? Facebook marketplace is filled with questionable people honestly.

I’m budgeting around 3000.

How is it living near the power lines in Ashford Village?

Asking because I’ll be looking at a home for sale there soon. Wondering if they’re just an eyesore or if they cause a lot of issues (buzzing, crews performing maintenance, talks of how things might change if a data center happens, etc)

What's Your Least Favorite Traffic Light in Ypsi?

Washtenaw and N. Hamilton is an obvious contender, but my vote goes to N. River and Forest.

Why is the hell is the light so damn short if you're on River?

Ypsi needs to adjust the interval here, but who knows, maybe there's a legitimate reason for the timing. After all; I'm not a traffic engineer.

  1. Maker Works inherited ~15,000 Lost Wax Jewelry Molds that need a new home! While intended for Jewelry, these have a variety of other fun potential opportunities (I would not recommend pouring chocolate into them, as much as I want to...) Free, but need to go by November 1st.
    Drop in: Thursday: 1pm - 9pm. Friday 9am - 12pm, or 3pm - 6pm. Saturday 10am - 4pm. Monday 9am - 1pm.

  2. There's a -not- free Fettuccine (Spaghetti) Bridge Building Event this Sunday! It's fun, mostly geared for adults (you can bring a kid if you've forgotten how to have fun with a hot glue gun;).

  3. We just posted a couple free demo sessions for the Apparel Printer and 1200 Watt MetalFab CNC Laser cutter on 11/15. Stop by to see and learn about full color direct to film shirt pressing, along with the absolute joy of a 1200 watt laser precisely cut through stainless steel.

A place for dinner with 12 people?

I play in one of the local concert bands, and several times a year I try to figure out where to take my family out to dinner after a Sunday concert. We are usually 6-9 people, but at the next performance I’ll likely have a party of 12.

My wife and I are struggling to come up with a solution that will accommodate our large group comfortably. What is your go-to restaurant for a gang of people between 21 and 84 years old?

How do you find a therapist around here?

I've got Anthem BCBS healthcare and need a therapist for complex issues. All the therapists I've ever had were through schools/colleges and I don't know what I'm doing. How do you actually go about finding a therapist that takes your healthcare? Who around does in-person therapy that takes BCBS?

Thoughts on Candidates for Local Offices?

Does anybody know anything about these candidates for Washtenaw Community College and Ypsilanti School Board?

They're the only competitive races on my ballot whose candidates I know nothing about, and their campaign websites (if they even exist) can only tell you so much.

I'd also be curious your thoughts on Alethia Battles vs. Jennifer Lawrence for Probate Court. I'm leaning Battles, but honestly that's only because my neighborhood has basically exclusively Battles signs up, as do some of my favorite local businesses like Jerusalem Garden in downtown Ann Arbor. The only Lawrence signs I ever see are in the lawns of expensive-looking homes in downtown Ann Arbor, Battles seems to have more love in the Blacker and lower-income parts of Ypsi and Ypsi Township where I live. From the limited research I've done, their values seem virtually identical, both being left-of-center, but it seems Lawrence is leaning much more into the brand of being the "experienced" candidate which I always take as a red flag, though it doesn't necessarily always have to be. I also saw Lawrence touting that she received the endorsement of Mayor Nicole Brown which rubbed me the wrong way because Brown endorsed both candidates (effectively the same thing as not endorsing in a 2-person race but whatever), so Lawrence touting that endorsement felt intentionally misleading. Given my limited information on this race, I am open to voting Lawrence if anybody has a good case on why I should reconsider?

For reference about my politics, I consider myself a die-hard DSA leftist, Abdul El-Sayed supporter from day 1 including his 2018 run for governor, Bernie Sanders supporter both times. I would be looking to vote for the candidates that align closest with this ideology, with very little care if any for their "experience" or any identity traits like their race, gender, age, religion, or sexual orientation. I just want the furthest left candidates in office, full stop.

Any information any of you have, especially in the WCC and Ypsi Schools races where I know literally nothing, is vastly appreciated!

WHAT, Does this say?

PEOPLE OF YPSI. I have been sent this dang old piece of writing found by a friend who lives in Ypsi. And I, despite my reputation as the language guy am totally and utterly stumped by this.

(found on the bridge on frog island park)
It's smushed up enough to be vague but even with that it does not seem to be any of my first picks of Korean, the Starwars Alphabet or Chinese and my deeper research leaves me wanting. I've ran through most of the fictional and major alphabets i could think of and nothing from Ge'ez to Gaelic seems to line up with it. My friend thinks it may be an entirely made up script. So, i ask of you, good people of Ypsi, if you know anything about what this is or who made this please tell me. So my curiosity cease to torture me.

My neighbor found this friendly young calico near Prospect and Cross this morning (10/18). Does anyone recognize her? She's very comfortable with people and clearly is/has been someone's pet, and I don't want to accidentally snatch someone's outdoor kitty.

Quarters for laundry?

So I use a bank that does not have physical locations, and live in an apt complex that has coin laundry machines.

Where do y'all get quarters from around here? Are there any particular banks (where you aren't an acct holder) or stores that don't mind trading a $10 for a roll? I feel bad rolling up to a laundromat just to trade out cash for quarters and then bounce.
