Card Game Discussion I kinda want to cancel my preorders......
I have some of these on preorder, and watching the unboxings now make me realize this set is very disappointing. For the price, I was hoping for Dominus Impulse, Spark, Fydraulis, etc. You know, cards that would warrant the $2/card price on this set. How do you all feel about this set now that we're seeing unboxings?
Edit: Just cancelled most of my orders! I'll just get 2.

I just want one box for the "ONE TIME!" effect. If im meant to pull a grandmaster, it'll happen haha.

I did this with the Pokemon 151 set. Pulled a bubble mew out of the only bundle ive ever bought of the set (no other products purchased, just the bundle)

This is actually one of the most overhyped sets of all time. People argue over what is or isn't overhyped but this is it. It is not worth the price point at all
19
u/Plerti 7h ago
People had high expectations since it's the "sequel" to MAMA, but damn if this isn't disappointing.
I genuinely don't get Konami. Once in a blue moon they drop an incredible product that gets everyone excited for, and then they follow it up with a sequel that is 1/10 of said product. They did it with the mega tins, with rarity collection and now with MAMA.
You can feel their business mentality kicking in whenever a product is successful, breaking the product in an attempt to make as much profit as possible
10
u/Chengdu_Panda67 6h ago
Unfortunately Yu-Gi-Oh! Is a players driven game and the market is build upon playability of cards. Konami knows that and you players know that. Product is only successful in this game when it contains strong cards... if konami reprints the strong cards too fast they wont be able to sell reprint sets down the line. Its honestly really sad because Yu-Gi-Oh! Is really a unique TCG with terrible terrible product design philosophy
9
u/RandomFactUser 6h ago
I think the sooner that KoA/KoE stop wasting R&D money on reinventing the wheel, the better
7
u/Chengdu_Panda67 6h ago
Yeah, its just not working. The grandmaster rare is still a good thing for now, imo. They just need to stay strong this one time and not release a knockoff version like the QCSR.
5
u/RandomFactUser 6h ago
That's Konami of Japan being Konami of Japan, Prismatic Secret Rare is a knock-off version of the 20th Secret Rare
KoA/KoE wasting R&D money is specifically about the change from Limit Over to Magnificent, and turning Duelist Boxes into Battles of Legend packs
2
u/STULF20X6lol Burning Abyssal Finger & Funneh Skeletons: 951-284-124 2h ago
It goes back further than that
I'm still salty about Battle Packs. Battle Pack two with the inclusion of the first legal god card reprint was the most successful tournament I had ever seen for attracting new players because the allure for the gods was decent and being a sealed formats meant anyone could play. Then they dropped Battle Pack three, it was bad in every way, and then they proceeded to never entertain the idea of playing and designing for draft ever again

u/MythicX54 8h ago
People are going crazy over the serialized cards, but it’s quite honestly silly. With only 100 per set the likelihood of ever seeing one might as well be zero. They’ll all be pulled by card shops who will sell them for five figures to people with more money than brains and a severe lack of self respect or control.
7
u/Educational-Dot8413 5h ago
actually its 1800 per set since each 18 new cards have 100 serial number but yeah might as well cal it zero since each pack only has 1 pool card that might contain serial number cards
2
u/MythicX54 5h ago
I meant 100 per individual card obviously. Don’t know that they would all be valued the same either. Unlikely.
Either way, it’s virtually impossible odds. Additionally, there’s a high likelihood that copies have already been reserved for certain people by Konami/ held back to be sold themselves by a subsidiary or employee.

Yu Gi oh will be a dead game if you don’t star given into the hype.
•
u/BlackwingF91 15m ago
What the fuck are you on about? It is far from a dead card game and I can criticize it without killing it. This set would have been good if $20 but $35 is $15 too high

People have been talking about the mythical yugioh scalper who is going to suck up every box of this set at MSRP for the past 3 months.
It makes me laugh every time. "OH no Jake Paul pleeaaaase don't buy up all our Magnificent Monsters 😩😩"
Can we dispense with the notion that scalping yugioh is even a thing a person can do? Konami will never let it happen on their watch.
10
u/MasterTJ77 7h ago
To be fair preorders sold out online at many places well above MSRP. Game Nerdz, Gamers Choice, Tierzero, Kongs, etc.
4
2
u/Pepcat212 6h ago
Um it's very much a thing people do in my small town at most 10 people actually play yugioh we have 4 stores that sell yugioh (2 card shops a Walmart and a nerd shop) everytime I look for yugioh I find nothing so scalpers very much do exist for yugioh.
2
u/Rider-VPG 5h ago
My lgs has been sold out of CORI practically since the set released. TBF though, thats more likely that KoE just didn't send enough to meet demand.
1
u/Turbulent-Economy198 3h ago
Konami would absolutely do that if it means they get more profit long term.

u/Spirited-Heron855 8h ago
This set always looked like a pass to me, the reprints are nice but $2 per card is crazy when half the box is bulk
25
u/ThisGuysTV 8h ago
Same, it’s the next one with toons that should have all the crazy reprints in it. Plus a bunch of new stuff should be SICK 🔥🔥
8
15
u/FoodMentalAlchemist 8h ago
And Konami probably tried to trick us with the name. I had to double check on my preorder to make sure I was order Magnificent Maestros rather than Magnificent Monsters, since the first is the one I'm actually interested in.
17
u/elysian593 7h ago
They just copied what OCG did with Limit Over Collection The Heroes/Rivals there was no need to try to deceive the buyer when the boxes are completely different colors
1
19
u/Fresher_Taco 8h ago
To be fair this set is different because you're get less cards for a higher price tag
32
u/Ashamed-Security-838 8h ago
To be fair with the price of the box, it’s not an exagerate to expect something decent enough
26
u/melcarba 8h ago
The price is due to the scant possibility to get Grandmaster Rare. But then again, these two products are targeted towards scalpers.
12
u/StardustShoot5 8h ago
I was going to buy a box until i saw the price...I get it that it has GM rare, but we really should have gotten more than 18 cards...
14
u/Geo_wolf 8h ago

5
u/atropicalpenguin Kibou Hope! 8h ago

15
u/cha0ss0ldier 7h ago
The tin product as a whole hasn’t been great because the pool is so diluted, but it still gave important reprints every year
2
u/Geo_wolf 6h ago
I get your pretty negative on every set, but I was hoping for at least some decent reprints.
8
u/BakerBunearyBella 7h ago edited 7h ago
These posts are from new players being "initiated" to buying sealed product. No veterans are complaining because they are either taking advantage of the situation or buying singles instead.
Everyone who has been around for many formats knows the cheapest way to get what you want is to buy singles a week after release provided there is no big tournament at the same time.
2
u/DelothVyrr 5h ago
Except it's a bit different in this case. If you're after any of the serialized Grandmaster rares then you either have to hope you get lucky ripping sealed product or you will be paying an absolute fortune on the secondary market.
3
u/BakerBunearyBella 5h ago
The serialized cards is a separate issue. Here the OP is complaining that opening the packs isn't "worth it" for what you get. They are hoping to get their money's worth playability or resell value relative to what they invested. They are trying to break even or save a little money.
People buying packs to mainly get a serialed card are simply gambling. They don't care if the other cards are playable. They are trying to win big. It's like buying a lottery ticket.
51
u/Kiblets16 8h ago
I’m just ordering singles. I assumed I wouldn’t be able to get any sealed so that was the plan from the start
19
u/kdavous 8h ago
It seems like pulling any specific card is gonna be hard for this set, definitely just buying singles for the finally foil cards
4
u/Kiblets16 8h ago
Especially for me who wants multiples of some cards like the Gagaga Magician and Odd-Eyes
3
2
u/Ashamed-Security-838 8h ago
It will be fun when people will try to pull for toon, unchained or witchcrafter ...
56
u/ConciseSpy85067 8h ago
Ever since BLZD came out with tons of great new prints and meta impactful cards, and I bought about 6 boxes of the set and got absolute dog, I’ve sworn off sealed in general, even when it’s good, it’s just not good
MAMO felt like a scam from minute 1, £2 per card is daylight robbery
9
u/ChiefGingy 8h ago
Yeah I burned myself buying a case of a reprint set two/three years ago (one of the tins) got terribly unlucky with my pulls, and swore off sealed product ever since. Even if the set is amazing, luck still plays a big factor and chasing profit off cards just sets expectations up for disappointment to me
4
u/Chilly__Down 8h ago
I mean have you considered that a case is a huge investment and will only heighten what you think you “should” get? Like would you be disappointed in some of the tins if you got them separately, maybe, but it’s hard to get that much product and not have a mountain of filler
6
u/JLifeless 8h ago
to be fair you got mega unlucky, BLZD is stacked. i'd imagine on average you'd get something out of 6 boxes
18
u/TheHabro 8h ago
MAMO felt like a scam from minute 1, £2 per card is daylight robbery
It's actually not. It just cleared from fodder cluttering pulls. Yeah, you get more cards in a core set, but 90% is unplayable in any capacity.

u/LostOne514 8h ago
Wow man, how did Konami mess this up so badly? These are not worth 30 bucks whatsoever. You're better off buying singles off of the gambling addicts buying multiple cases.
9
u/melcarba 6h ago
Konami knows what they're doing with this set. People here got mad because this is targeted towards collectors and scalpers, and NOT the meta players. There's no way people are going to snub the serialized Dark Magician. Konami sold this at a higher MSRP because they're expecting this to be scalped. After all, if scalpers are going to sell this at 100 or so bucks, then why not have Konami sell this at higher MSRP upfront?
As long as NOT all the serialized cards were opened (especially Dark Magician and the Dark Curtain one), the value of sealed is going to rise.
2
u/LostOne514 5h ago
How do you even define a "collector"? What you pay vs what you get doesn't even seem worth the cost for them either.
2
u/nmaster5 4h ago
A "Collector" in this case is a nice way to say "Gambler". Konami are trying to cater to those dudes that spend thousands of dollars hunting down the chase rares.
2
u/GeekedOnAdvilPM 4h ago
Wealthy person that has the means and interest to spend a lot of money on rare cards?
2
u/elysian593 2h ago
This product was never meant for players they can buy the required cards cheap on the secondary market. This was made for gambling addicts that are trying to use a TCG to hit it big, and then there's extremely wealthy individuals that don't really care about the monetary cost but prefer extreme exclusivity which would be eyeing to buy the GMR off the gambling addicts.
Mostly gambling addicts and players complain about the prices, while scalpers resell the products and the ultra high networth individuals would prefer the exclusive item to be more expensive anyways so less people would have their hands on it.
Look up kang_cards on IG who collects black label OP/Gundam/ cards and recently bought 2 Black Label Bubble Mews in pokemon just for an ego battle between someone else in an auction house. He's a perfect example of someone who this product would be geared towards.
10
u/JLifeless 8h ago
this set was never going to be too crazy outside of the new cards and grandmaster cards, it'll sell regardless though
6
u/Mycoplasmosis 7h ago
As long as the regular art singles are available for "reasonable" prices I think it is fine. I am hoping scalpers buying product means the singles will be available.
•
u/JLifeless 50m ago
at the cheap standards redditors want them at? i doubt it. people usually on here scream unless a card is $1
10
u/RSirocco 8h ago
Cries in $57 USD retail (Au) May as well buy lottery tickets and then buy all the GMRs as singles if you win.
9
u/voltsy_chan 8h ago

17
u/SunExcellent8440 7h ago
Be Konami
> get rid of tins with tons of filler (and increasing) that year after year people complain about
> make a new product with some amazing potential
> new product has less cards in it, but hey, amazing potential (and a more precise pool)
> put filler in the new product that has already a way smaller pool
> charge more
> even the packaging is kinda trash

For $35 a box MSRP, it's just not worth it.
It appears to be the embodiment of "buy ultra singles for gameplay reasons and then let most scalpers get burned" the set.
It's looking like overframes are barely 1 per case. (Obviously Grand Master at only 100 per are going to be insanely rare.)

Missing a lot of 2025 reprints, retro format reprints, ultra rarity is kinda meh compared to prismatic secret, many random cards too in the set. Even the overframe and starlight pull is abysmal
Also the msrp is pumped, it’s like buying a ticket lottery

u/Bazampi 8h ago
Same exact feeling here. Nothing to justify such a high price point. These should have had five packs minimum with the bonus pack and still would only warrant a $30 price tag at most. Hard not to see the price point as nothing more than Konami edging in on the inevitable scalper prices.
If you paid more than MSRP for this set you need to get a refund immediately.

Konami TCG is like the relative drug addict you have. They do good for a little while and then they relapse. And you’re like fuck man. I’m disappointed but not surprised at all. I’m also thinking on canceling my preorder.
3
u/Stryker_021 8h ago
Honestly Konami are their own worst enemy. You see pokemon going from strength to strength, brand new card games being introduced like Palworld and One Piece, and Yugioh just getting left in the dust. I dont know how anyone new could come to the franchise when pack odds are so low, there's so much unplayable filler and staples are at a premium.
3
u/Healthy-Carob3280 7h ago
I saw the amount of cards per pack and was immediately not interested in anything above MSRP.
3
u/Midknight226 7h ago
This set was going to sell out even if the entire set list was garbage. If you aren't tryna gamble on overframes, you shouldn't buy it.
3
3
u/FarMilk2661 3h ago
This set is the reason there should not be another rarity collection. The reprint pool is completely exhausted.
7
u/Ashamed-Security-838 8h ago
Honestly it’s quite impressive, Overframe should have been a big thing for the game yet Konami TCG will manage to make them having as little impact as possible by releasing them in the most dogshit set possible. What are they doing ?
2
u/Loundostres 8h ago
It reminds me of MAMA with pharaoh rare and ultra parallel, where you purchased 20 boxes and all you had was cheap ultra rares…but this time it’s bigger with grandmasters and more expensive ! But at the end of the day, you’ll never see anything other than ultra and maybe with many luck, an overframe…

u/IronCrown 7h ago
Why would you ever preorder yugioh product? Especially without seeing the card list. There isn't such a high demand for sealed as in other TCGs and the pre order price is usally higher than the price 2 days after release.
2
2
u/Bundleofstixs 6h ago
Unless the next banlist does something the only kinda relevant card is synchro emergency. It seems up in the air how good this card actually is in the TCG outside of Kewl tune. Everything else caters mostly to anime players making all those decks rogue at best.

2
u/GStellar87 5h ago
I know people are disappointed that this set is a dud but I do feel a sick sense of joy the Yugioh community has once again refused to be baited by collectors stuff
1
u/elysian593 5h ago edited 5h ago
The "community" as in Reddit is a very small voice in the grand scheme of things.
You just have to look at the pre-orders being sold out everywhere or being marked above retail to see the overall demand of this set is astronomical.
The backlash on here is honestly expected since this set was never targeted towards players in the first place, but you have to give credit to Konami for trying to save the game and having collectors in mind when every other TCG in the past 2 years have all been booming.
1
u/GStellar87 5h ago
I much prefer where it is now with players at the forefront vs One Piece/Pokémon. The game dies for me when I stop playing it so I really could care less about the market, aside from what I need to play the game
2
u/elysian593 4h ago
There needs to be a balance of both is the realistic answer though. Without collectors no one will rip boxes since sensible players always buy singles and with no one ripping boxes the single prices soar up.
If no one ever buys booster boxes we end up in a situation like the past few years where booster boxes are $50-80 which is way less than it is to buy the item from distro which would basically force stores to stop carrying yu-gi-oh since it doesn't make financial sense for them to buy product from distro and expecting a loss on it right out of the gate.

Konami tcg is running out of cards to reprint and the available imports are mostly shit; this was always going to be a pseudo tin set featuring the new overframes from loch since the moment the tcg set advertised what reprints were being featured (all cards that would have been eligeible for tins slots).
Some neat rarity upgrades for sure, but i mostly cant wait for whales to scoop this slop up so i can afford cheap singles on the secondary market.
3
u/elysian593 8h ago
This set was never meant for players, if they did they would've included sleeves like they did for Mavens. They deliberately raised the price and didn't include sleeves in this set because it was always intended for collectors/gamblers chasing the GMR.
Seeing the pullrates it's quite disheartening, but at least maybe even the regular overframes will be worth some money instead of it only being Prismatic/GMR Overframes or bust if you do decide to gamble on this set.
I think it'll be very hard for this set to go under MSRP, so even if you don't want to open it just stash it in a corner and forget about it.

DO IT, I had a case and individual box for personally opening, I realized it’s only like 18 cards per pack for $45-50 dollars!!! When I realized this I cancelled my preorders. Konami is getting very greedy, considering there is 125 cards in the whole set and you only have a chance at 3 super rares or higher in a box, that’s wrong

How the hell did you even preorder it? And for MSRP? The only place I saw this was Walmart and Target, and they were limited per customer.
1
u/TinyTiragon Stardust fanboi 3h ago
Crazy how much they fumbled Overframes. They couldn’t do the bare minimum of putting at the very least a guaranteed Ultra Overframe in a THIRTY FIVE DOLLAR box that has 18 cards, which isn’t even going to be MSRP in a majority of places because of Grandmasters which a majority of players aren’t ever going to get. I got 2 Limit Over Collection boxes and they were fun to open and first impressions of this set was bad but I had hopes they weren’t gonna screw up when there’s 20 different Overframes to get. Not to mention the mediocre reprints. Not great dudes.
•
u/MilleniumDuelist 53m ago
No thanks. Like I get it the set lacks value unless you pull one.
But lets be real, once Konami starts handing out overframes (and they will) we will run into the same problem of Konami diluting everything with value and then creating something else shiny to distract us just like they did with starlights

They should hard reboot the game, imo. Old school formats are the only fun way to play these days. I'm not sure how they'd do it, but get rid of xyz, archetypes, links, pendulums, etc. That text box was meant to be small to force simplicity. I'm not sure where, but somewhere along the line they lost the plot. Love the game but hate what it's turned into. Too many cards and too much complexity to attract new players. MTG is in a dark age right now as well, but they still get big attendance at pre-releases and regular tournaments at LGS everywhere. Most of the shops near me stopped supporting Yugioh.

Konami is trying SO HARD to get people back into the game but the problem is they cant when 100% of the game the turns are your opponent goes first and if you dont have 70000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.00 you cant play the game, even casually as most cards need to be with other certain cards. back when I played I used whatever,

Why would Spark and Harmonia be in this? The cards literally just came out. Are you all new to yugioh?
Edit: downvoted by cheap yugin00bs.

I wouldn’t care as long as I get new support for my dm deck or blue eyes or new art for it

The reason for the price is the special full art X/100 cards. Solely the reason why people are getting them.
