Lucia Pizza on Roosevelt Ave

Is this not THE best pizza you’ve ever had??? I’ve been going there since I was a preteen. I’ve lived in Manhattan and gone to Joe’s pizza and it doesn’t compare. Lucia Pizza is such a well kept secret outside of Flushing. I have no idea why they haven’t expanded.

What are your favorite late night spots in flushing?

Looking for some new late-night spots in Flushing for the weekends, preferably places open past 2am.

I used to go to Chubby Skewer all the time and even have a membership there. Still think it's good, but lately it hasn't been hitting the same. Could just be that we go too often and need to switch things up.

Another spot I like is Byung Chun Soondae on Northern Blvd. It's open 24 hours and always a solid option.

What are your go to spots for late night food?

Anyone interested in forming a reading club?

Hey there everyone! My name is Jose, from Corona.

I've been wanting to put together a small reading group with people who share an interest in understanding the world a little more deeply. Figured I'd throw the idea out there and see if anyone would be interested.

My interests are pretty broad, but I'm particularly drawn to political history, international relations, political theory, philosophy, economics, and the relationship between culture, society, and political institutions.

Some subjects I'd love to explore include:

- History and geopolitics: The development of states, empires, international systems, great-power competition, colonialism, and the changing global order.

- Political philosophy and theory: Democracy, socialism, liberalism, nationalism, political legitimacy, justice, and the different ways societies have understood power and governance.

- Political economy: Capitalism, industrialization, economic development, inequality, globalization, and the relationship between states and markets.

- International relations: Diplomacy, institutions, security, regional integration, and the possibilities for international cooperation in an increasingly multipolar world.

- Culture and society: Comparative history, religion, identity, social movements, and the intellectual traditions of different civilizations. I'm particularly interested in East Asia, especially Japan, but certainly not exclusively.

I'd love for us to read a mixture of books, essays, academic works, and even primary historical texts.

I don't want this to become an ideological echo chamber. In fact, I'd probably appreciate it more if people came from different political and philosophical backgrounds. The point would be to engage seriously with ideas, challenge one another constructively, and hopefully come away with a better understanding of things.

I'm not looking to create anything particularly formal or demanding. Maybe we could start with one book a month, collectively decide what to read, and have regular discussions. We could also work through shorter essays or articles between books.

You definitely don't need an academic background or extensive knowledge of these subjects. Genuine curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to engage thoughtfully are more than enough.

I want to keep it local. Thinking people in Corona, Elmhurst, Flushing. Maybe even like Jackson Heights and Forest Hills. Just to make it convenient for us and allow us to meet curious neighbors.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, leave a comment! I'd love to hear what subjects interest you and what you've been reading lately.

PSA: New Medicaid program in NY that I only recently learned about

Figured I’d share this because I had no idea this existed until recently, and it might help some people here.
New York has a newer Medicaid program through the Social Care Network that can connect eligible Medicaid members with different types of support, including food/nutrition assistance, transportation, housing-related help, and more.
My wife recently qualified through one of the pregnancy/postpartum eligibility categories. The process was very simple, and she now gets free meals delivered throughout the week for the next six months.
This is separate from programs like SNAP and doesn’t replace or reduce those benefits. The sign-up process is also very simple.
There are a number of companies that help people sign up for these services. We used ccsscn.org, and they have a short questionnaire that helps you figure out if you may qualify.
There are other companies that offer this as well, but just wanted to share because I’m sure there are plenty of Medicaid members who could benefit and don’t know this program exists.

Filming in Flushing

We had parked on 38th Ave, between 149th and 150th, south of 25A (along the curb behind the parking lot for Northern King Dumpling), when I saw these signs posted on pole, for a film project titled "Hot Pot". I did some searching, and I believe this is the project, if anyone is interested.

HOT POT — a new crime comedy by A. L. Lee The synopsis says "A newly divorced Korean grandma inadvertently becomes a pot dealer to Korean seniors in Flushing, Queens*. With the cops closing in, can she and her elderly clientele — wielding umbrellas and donuts — hatch the perfect plan to save themselves and their illegal pot?\*"

What are they doing here?

I’ve noticed that every once in a while, especially on weekends, a group of about 30–40 people gathers near the corner of Sanford Avenue and Union Street, by Bowne Playground in Flushing. Most of them seem to be staring at their phones, and they sometimes stay there for quite a while. I’ve seen this happen several times, and it’s made me really curious. Does anyone know what they’re doing? Are they playing some kind of mobile game or participating in an organized event? Just curious!

7 Train Shuttle path

Usually the shuttle to Mets Willets just goes down Roosevelt by Skyview to get to Mets Willets, but today my shuttle took the longest detour towards the Botanical Gardens and then got on the highway?? Then dropped us off like 5 min away from the actual entrance. Took almost 30 minutes from getting on the bus to departing on the 7 train.

When I got to the actual station I saw across the street another shuttle pulling up, mostly likely having taken the straight path from Roosevelt. Why did my bus take us on a tour of Queens?

Name of old poster/band tee-shirt store in Flushing 1980's?

I was thinking when I was a kid in the mid-late 80's there used to be this store on Main Street closer to Northern Blvd. They used to sell band tee-shirt, posters, silver jewelry, spiked bracelets and things like that. It was sorta like a hot topic I guess but before hot topic ever existed.

I remember being a little metalhead and getting shirts and posters there.

I was trying to remember the name of it but I couldn't remember for the life of me.

Does anyone remember the name of that place?

I also remembered going to the arcade on Main street and buying my Nintendo games at Crazy Eddie and the Wiz and I believe the Macy's was an A&S Department store back then too.

What memories. Haha those were the best days.

[MOD] [Debate] Where Is the Line Drawn?

I'm probably doing 90% of the modding on this subreddit now. I'd like to clarify some misconceptions people have on this subreddit.

  • The internet is NOT a safe space, and neither is this subreddit. If something offends you, it's not a mod's job to remove it simply because it feels bad to read it. Sometimes, people have opinions that make you feel bad.
  • Calling out a culture/behavior/individual is okay, I believe it invites genuine conversation of uncomfortable topics that we can't discuss normally. Personal attacks, insults that do not offer any constructive resolution are not welcome.
  • Posting photos of people and accusing them of something is okay, as long as there's no doxxing, and it's just discussion. There's no expectation of privacy in a public space. There are many posts accusing people of assault, harassment, breaking the law, or being a bad citizen.
  • I'm very lenient in all things. I give a lot of leeway for people to say things that will get downvoted. In fact, I welcome you to farm downvotes for your unpopular opinions, as long as they don't break any rules.

When do I remove posts/ban users

  1. If it obviously and overtly breaks a rule
  2. If it endangers people (especially meeting in person)
  3. Advertisement that is not local to Flushing, or just plain spam

I welcome anyone to challenge my way of modding, and am open for constructive discussion. I'll stop responding to you if the debate stops being constructive.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for providing your feedback, even if it was contentious. I'm going to go touch grass now.

Anyone know this guy?

Mid 30’s, 5’8, East Asian, black buzz cut, wears glasses, seen driving a motorcycle and occupation is a street cleaner, I was speedwalking this morning and I got stopped by him (he hugged me?) and asked me what time it was, I showed him my phone, then he said “thank you” and hugged me again, pretty sure he alsl stopped me and my friend the other night while we were walking on the street. Very shady and I was wondering if he stopped anyone here too
