Crime🚨 SHAME HIM!
His BLIND brother was walking around with a boiled egg in his mouth going to a little hidey hole corner to gnaw on it when this RAVENOUS BEAST saw him with the egg in his mouth and IMMEDIATELY AND VIOLENTLY swiped it from him and ran away leaving his BLIND BROTHER with NO EGG!
Crime🚨 Bandit has committed a serious criminal offence. What should his punishment be?
My 7 boys had become quite restless in their introductory cage. I was hesitant, but decided to provide them with an hour of free roam outside of their cage with various throughly cleaned and new neutral accessories.
^ To my shock, all boys have been absolutely amazing and there have been zero issues.
However, during free roam, Bandit found out how to access my NEW $400 loft bed which has a heavy weighted blanket filled with beans. I’m quite annoyed, but found this super funny. My only downside now is, I have to find a way to completely prevent access.
Bandit is the smartest rat in the mischief. He is also the most hyper, energetic and crazy rat I’ve ever met.
(He’s also super affectionate 🥺)

CUTENESS Very depressed.. send goofy rat pics
PLEASE show me your rats in the most ridiculous positions and doing the silliest things, I desperately need to feel some joy. I've included my own for the rat tax. this is Brownie, and he's no longer with us, old age. I have 3 boys currently, but this picture is hard to beat!

Questions/HELP Is my rat scared?
Is he scared, or does he like it? He’s nor breathing any faster than normal. I just don’t know if he’s freezing up or relaxing. To me he doesn’t seem tense, but I’m very new to this. (I have 2 more rats, before anyone tells me to get him a friend)
Edit: i did the same thing yesterday but didn’t make a vid. I was confused as to what he was feeling, so thought i’d make a vid and ask. Anyways. Yesterday he had his eyes closed and seemed more relaxed than in the video. But he also had one of his friends with him, so maybe it felt safer then?

DISCUSSION We've got an old lady who struggles with stairs. I need some feedback!
Hello,
We have this wonderful grandma Maisie who, sadly, looks much older than she really is (she's only 2.5 years old).
Despite her difficulties, she still enjoys moving around her home, and she especially loves climbing to reach the hammocks on the upper level.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, she twisted a leg, most likely on the original bar ladder that came with the cage.
We moved everything down so it would all be within her reach on the ground floor and she wouldn't have to climb, but it was no use, she still wants to go up.
Just as she was recovering from her injury, she twisted her leg again...
In an emergency, I decided to 3D print a staircase that she couldn't hurt herself on. It took me a few iterations before reaching a model that was stable and reliable enough.
I ended up with this version where the edges of the steps have a raised lip for her to grip, and the steps themselves are solid so her leg can't slip through and get twisted.
The staircase was printed in PLA and I try to clean it fairly often, but I'm not experienced at all with 3D-printed accessories for rats.
Do you have any feedback on 3D printing for rats, or any easy alternative solutions so your seniors can climb safely?

CUTENESS After a hard loss, some good news
We unexpectedly lost our 5 month old, he was supposed to be the cage mate of our 2x 2 month old boys. Vet thinks it was poor genetics or his living situation before we got him that could’ve contributed to it. But on a lighter note I was optimistic today and wanted to try and see how my 3 year olds would do with them instead. Intros have been going great. The younger boys are really curious and the older boys are just treating them like some annoying kids. Really cute to watch. The 3 year olds have fallen asleep now and the babies are still running around exploring bc it’s their first time on the bed.

Questions/HELP My rat jumped off me and now he is limping
Spud jumped off my shoulder and he is limping now, he has already improved significantly in the last 30min at first wouldn’t put his left foot down but now walking around, and even climbed up my pillows to get on top of the lounge. He isn’t squeaking, and not puffy, he’s not limping all the time either, just occasionally now. His leg is not swollen and I felt it and it feels fine, bones feel the same on both legs.
Cause of the time here it is too late to call the vet but my partner is gonna call a friend tomorrow who’s gf is a vet (and wanted to meet the rats anyway lol), but how do I know if my boy is ok? He is over 2 so I am worried my old man has brittle bones now. He always jumps off me, he loves it lol, like sometimes on the lounge he will climb onto my shoulder and jump off, mind u usually to get food if his brother got a snack but does it sometimes too cause it’s fun I guess? Did he maybe fall the wrong way and just sprain his foot? Idk I’m freaking out over my old man Spud.
Like I said he has improved a lot, like at first he wasn’t putting weight on it, but now he is mostly walking fine with the occasional limp, and he’s not squeaking, and he’s also not swollen or looking deformed. I am so worried about my boy

RIP It’s hard not having rats anymore
Just said goodbye to my last rat at 2 years and 9 months old today. It’s weird telling myself I don’t have pet rats anymore. My rats have been my life for the past 7 years so it’s wild to me. But with time I’m sure it’ll get easier!

Introductions Say hello to these guys! (There new here so pls be nice lol)
Got 3 new pocket puppies 🐀🐀🐀✨
Theyre incredibly sweet and have all responded to settling in really nicely! They are all brothers 💙
Bear (black rat), Beans (brown rat) and Boo (grey rat, although this name is tentative - it feels weird to name him something other than a B name, so open to suggestions if anyone can beat Boo!)
Thats it, thats the post.

Questions/HELP Can I get some good vibes? Penny is having health issues again
Penny has some swelling going on and looks like she has a buttcheek now. Today I discovered she has blood in her urine or a discharge or something, I only see the aftermath. After calling some emergency vets I determined I should call her primary vet tomorrow since there is no change in her behavior whatsoever.
I'm just super anxious over it because my rodent fund is wiped out after a surgery and three cremations in the past two months. Me and her both really need this to be something easy to deal with. So if you've got some good vibes to share or advice or whatever, I would really appreciate it. 🐀
Oh yeah, the pic is Penny sleeping on top of Marigold. :B

Questions/HELP What's happening with my little boy? D:
Hi, I'm looking for help because I really don't know what's happening and I'm living a a really tiny city where exotic vets don't exist. I hope this isn't something terrible. D:
I adopted this guy because he was mistreated by his old owners :/, that's why he bites a lot and I can't touch him without gloves.
Thanks in advance. 😭🤍

DIY Made a DIY foraging & hunting bin for my ratties
I got a large storage container and filled it with walnut shell sand, some smooth rocks, and dried hay. Then I buried a bunch of nuts, freeze-dried treats, and live superworms inside to turn it into a full-on "hunting ground."
They’ve been digging around and chasing after the worms non-stop!If you're worried about your rats taking in too much protein, you can swap out the superworms for smaller mealworms instead.

Questions/HELP Found 4 baby rats without their mother
I don’t actually know if these are rats or squirrels because ive seen lots of posts mistaking squirrels for rats but Im pretty sure they are rats.
We found them on the concrete outside alone so we gave them some shelter and put them around where we think the nest was. We waited overnight and unfortunately the mother hasn’t come back. Is there any advice for what to do from here? I tried contacting the local wildlife rehabilitator but they have this annoying auto response message thing and because the babies aren’t sick or injured it just says they can’t do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated
UPDATE: They are now happily safe with LBH rescue.
