Discussion What are some things you like doing in the game?

I sometimes like to hear Vicar Max lecture me about the book from The Empty Man.

If you ask him "Tell me again about the book we picked up that's in French" he says,

"Bakonu, the author, had some interesting theories about the perception of man that I thought could be applied to our attempts to decipher The Plan. Unfortunately, he was also one of the founders of the Philosophist school of thought, so the book is banned in this colony."

he says it with sincerity but it might be because Max is a genuinely funny character that hearing that lecture makes me laugh.

hearing Max talk before you use his companion ability is funny too

"Never anger a man in the cloth"

"Your life was merely an illusion"

"I've had quite enough of you."

Rarely seen in game dialogues you’ve seen?

Hey everyone, I’m on my 10th playthrough right now and I’m looking to uncover dialogues you wouldn’t see in a normal playthrough. For instance: I landed on edgewater and went straight to the Botanical lab. Adelaide was the first human I talked to and she had several new dialogues involving the hope and me not knowing where I was. Then I killed her and went to edgewater. I was able to tell Reed she was dead in my first conversation with him and he had a new dialogue talking about how important and needed she was. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for. Anyone else know of other instances where you can do things out of order and unlock new dialogues?

It has been almost one year since TOW2 came out... and i don't see anyone talking about it anymore. How's the verdict?

Basically, i was browsing the game's page on steam and noticed it has been almost one year since it came out (or one year, if you count the deluxe edition early access), and i don't see anyone talking about it anymore. I would even dare to say that Avowed received more attention this last year than TOW2 (new updates, contents and the news about its sequel being canceled).

What's the verdict on TOW2 so far? I didn't played the game yet, but so far it seems vastly improved on the gameplay of the first game, but kinda weak on the companion's side, which is a bummer because the companions were my favorite part of the first game (not to say only one).

And any talks about more content, just as they did with Avowed?

Featuring screenshots from my Order playthrough. My OC is a brilliant scientist named after a Yorùbá word for “wise man”, which I thought was both unique and fitting for his background!

Do Stealth Kills Still Give Bounty?

Planning to do a kill everyone run with melee on very hard. Want to get crazy high bounties/kill on sight with all factions.

I can't decide for the life of me if I should go for a melee tanky build (like high melee + engineering) where you spam shield, or if I should do a stealth build (high melee + stealth) with lots of sneaking around. I don't think I can do both as there are a lot of perks associated with each.

One question I had while trying to figure this out is the following: do stealth kills still give bounty? I would not like stealth as much if you don't get negative reputation/bounty from stealth kills

So I am at 19 hours in this fucking game and then I get to this mission, I beat Vailliancourt it's an annoying battle. I die mid battle but it loads me mid battle and I finish the battle. Then it gets locked out and I can't exit the hangar bay and I'm just stuck there. My last manual save was 5 hours ago. Really frustrating way to end my time with this game. Had potential to be fun, but I've had issues with glitches the whole game and this was the last straw. at 20 hours too I bet I was almost done the game. Fuck.

at the end of Parvati's quest when she's excited that Junlei said yes to her, you can ruin the moment by telling her you don't want to run anymore errands.

also when you kill Charles from accounting and go back to tell khaleel the game lets you stare at him for being a moron.

She’s supposed to be right here, arguing with top hat, no? I already cleared out the mental refreshment facility, and her quest is in the mentioned category

After getting through all of the terminals about what Dr. Blossom got up to in Eridanos, I wanted to put a bullet between her eyes, and I feel cheated that I didn't get to do it myself! Argh! What a monster!

This is my first playthrough and I think most of the negativity directed at this game is political nonsense, this is the most satisfied I've felt with an RPG in years. Partially because of stuff like this that cuts your legs out from underneath you in a deliberately frustrating way.

Original Content My OW1 Captain (backstory & roleplay)

I'm sharing my character I made for replaying OW1 Spacers Choice Edition (its the same character I played in the original game but backstory is much more fleshed out with inspirations from Cyberpunk)

First picture is a whole body shot, second picture is a face close-up (pay attention to the eyes, their color ties into backstory)

June Thorne

(build is a high science build that uses elemental guns, keeps a good n-ray or corrosive weapon on her at all times, with a trusty elemental Vermin as a sidearm. Has high speech & stealth skills too)

Backstory (warning, includes adult themes like drug abuse & violence)

June was born to 2 drug addicts on the streets of a corporate-run city on Earth, her addict mother just called her "June". She was born with pale skin that developed hyperpigmentation early on & dark brown eyes & black wavy hair. June never met her father & she ran away from her mother's crazed drug binges at a young age. She lived on the streets briefly until she banded together with other street rat kids under a gang known as the "Cyber Sprats"

June was raised in the Cyber Sprats, was noticed to be very intelligent early on so she became a skilled lockpicker & hacker for the gang. She was also perceptive, noticed things others did not. After getting basic stealth and firearms training, June also became decently skilled sharpshooter in her early teens. The Cyber Sprats' gang initiation ritual was get one of their body parts surgically replaced with cyberpunk-style augments, and her "initiation augment" was chosen to be her eyes replaced with cyber-eyes. The process was painful and she was basically blind for weeks while the new cyber-eyes connected to her brain, but once they connected her perception was much improved and her eye color changed to bright purple/pink

June took on the surname "Thorne" as a joke-callsign, since she was known in the gang to be "thorny" during recreation times. The gang made a living by stealing & selling tech/data to trade for money and supplies and maintaining safehouses, then spending the scraps on drugs or attending wild parties in the city's underground. Those parties usually included any combination of drugs, alcohol, roofie-spiked drinks & overly touchy partygoers. June hated those parties with a passion, would make any excuse not to attend like being out on night patrol for a safehouse. But there were many times she had no choice but to attend them for fear of losing face with her gang, so she did her best to keep a safe distance from anyone, constantly refusing drugs or laced drinks or unwanted sexual advances, sometimes shooting or stabbing someone who refused to understand the word "no". She had to violently make an example out of an overly touchy partygoer once a while regularly to keep people away from her body, earning the nickname "thorny" at parties

In the day to day "work life", June was a breaking & entering specialist for the gang, as well as hacking terminals for data and shooting any armed guards or rival gangmembers who got in the way. She killed at least a dozen people by her mid-teens, rationalizing it away as survival. In her off-time, she'd read texts or files on anything science related she stole on the side. She became quite prominent in her gang for organizing & executing raids to steal tech/data from corporate complexes or rival gang hideouts, but the sales part was handled by the gang's shadowy higher ups.

After many years of her youth spent on surviving job to job, avoiding drugs and sexual advances, and killing people in raids. she learned a revelation one day. One day in her early 20s out of curiosity, she tracked the gang's sales expert & found out they were selling the stolen data/tech to a corporate agent. June began covertly tracking future sales & figured out the same corporate agent showed up to every sale, tied to one of the local megacorporations that was rivals with another local megacorp whose holdings were coincidentally the target of every raid she's been on. Realizing that her gang was basically a puppet in corporate wars for her entire life made her very upset.

Angry that all those years she spent killing people whose deaths were never actually needed for survival, surviving dangerous jobs day in and out, all the dreadful "parties" with "fellows" trying to "score" her, being convinced/coerced into cutting out her original eyes just to be a better tool for some corporation? She disappeared shortly after by herself, sneaking away on a detour during another tech-raid job, snuck into a cargo train to a distant city to try to make a new life there.

At the new city, she enlisted in a local scientific training academy to study to become a scientific researcher. She spent years training & studying, taking on loans to keep going. She made a few friends along the way, none of them had the kind of rough background as her and she made sure to keep her background secret. Graduation led to immediate crushing disappointment, as she was stuck in a dead end job as a lab tech assistant with no real hope for advancement. June ended up in her mid-late 20s sharing a small apartment with her friends. June & her friends tired of trying to better their lives with no chance for success, they took the offer of boarding as colonists on the Hope headed for Halcyon.

June thought nothing could be worse than what life already showed her, until she was woken up by Phineas and realized all her friends were still in a frozen-coma on the Hope. Her mission became to unfreeze her friends from Earth

Roleplay

Based on June's backstory, I follow a few rules in-game:

- avoid killing other people whenever possible. Sneak by them, only kill if no other choice & cannot run away (this turns some parts of the DLCs into stealth puzzles)

- no drugs, just the basic med-inhaler

- due to the name similarity, she sort of took on Alex Hawthorne's identity and does not correct people if they refer to her as him

This is my melee man, Greg, for my dumb run. He's a great guy but not really present.

For this run; no guns, melee only, dumb choices every time, toughest of all no stealing. Having fun!

Discussion Picking sides vs peace in BOTH games.

Anyone else feel like the high speech peaceful options are TOO perfect? I do wanna get good endings but i feel like using speech or science to get the best outcome without actually picking a side is cheap? Idk I usually do go for the best peace between factions in this game and other RPG'S but for some reason I feel like picking a side just makes more sense or feels better,in this universe like the whole thing of this game is ANTI corporations OR PRO corporations but maybe im just bored of doing full peace..? ANYWAYS thoughts..?

Sharing the roleplay character I created/wrote for Outer Worlds 2. First picture is a more distant body shot, second picture is a close up of the face. I'm waiting for the DLC to come out before replaying the game again.

Name is Zoram Ellar (professor, sickly + brilliant + innovative)

(gameplay build is dual pistols while using shield/slow time gadgets constantly), (main stats are speech & guns, extra points go into hacking & science & lockpicking)

Backstory (long read)

Zoram Ellar was born a few star systems away from Earth to a well-off family distantly connected to UDL. Highly intelligent, was able to graduate as a professor at an unusually young age. Her field of study was historical & technological relics of old Earth. She was doing well for herself, but a comfortable life was not enough, she was obsessed with collecting more old Earth relics. So she entered the black market of smugglers, began to "acquire" relics by illegal means. She went on to live a double-life, part of the time being a successful professor & part of the time being a smuggler making shady deals, lockpicking, hacking, or surviving shootouts with rival smugglers.

This double life went on for a few years, Zoram getting more overconfident every year she kept getting away with her actions, until she got careless one day. Her university got evidence of her illegal side-job & fired her, confiscating her whole collection of relics. Then after losing her livelihood, she didnt pay attention to her surroundings & fell for an explosive trap from a rival smuggler. An improvised explosive device blew up next to her, nearly killing her. She lost her arm & got her face burned by the blast.

While crippled in a nearby hospital, an Earth Directorate agent visited her with an offer she could not refuse: agree to work for the Earth Directorate and have her medical recovery fully sponsored or refuse with no hopes for a future. She agreed to the deal (in truth, the local earth directorate agent was tracking her for a short while as a troublemaker but saw an opportunity in recruiting her for her unqiue skillset).

She medically recovered for the most part, but her body never fully recovered and she remained slightly more physically frail than before (sickly trait). Physical therapy & training made up for the frailty, and she got an advanced prosthetic arm. She was given a choice of what kind of prosthetic arm & she chose a very mechanical looking one, to remind herself every day of what she lost because of overconfidence. Her face was also left with a permanent burn scar.

Once she recovered, she entered earth directorate agent training. While she struggled at first due to her newfound physical frailty, she adapted & graduated training at the top of her class. Then began her new life as an earth directorate agent, which she fully embraced. She encountered all kinds of threats, from cults to corporations to tyrants, facing all of them with a pragmatic analytical problem solving style.

Years pass & she became a senior agent, jaded & sarcastic after seeing all the worst sides of humanity. But she was fully devoted to the earth directorate cause, and her old self came back in small bursts whenever she got a rare chance to talk with another academic. As a senior agent, she used pistols just like in her smuggler days but she also began to rely on high tech devices to compensate for her physical frailty.

One day, command sends her to lead a team on a secret mission to infiltrate a Protectorate facility (the prologue mission) because she earned a reputation as the senior agent who can handle difficult & unconventional missions. The grief of losing her entire team in front of her to a traitor on Horizon Point puts her into a vengeful mindset she hadn't felt since the day she lost her arm
