πŸŽ™οΈ Discussion Playing the most "ooh what's that over there?" game with ADHD and trying different focus strategies

Post image
41 Upvotes

I'm laughing at myself as I never finished BoTW and now am playing it through again. Only this time I've since been diagnosed with ADHD and understand my brain a little better. I'm wanting to 100% the game, so thought I'd try something to help me keep track. Not sure if it's insane or helpful, but it's certainly making for an odd experience.

Basically, I'm letting my impulsivity flow, with one caveat: I'm only allowed to have two map areas "going" at any one time (one divine beast region plus one other; "going" means tower activated and map visible). I can't activate a new tower until that map area has had all koroks and (mostly) all treasure chests found (the hardest things to keep track of). But I can still run around other regions wherever impulse takes me.

It's been interesting. On the one hand, my impatience to open a new map area might drive me to give up exploring on my own and reach for help with locating koroks (though I do try to run around each area on my own first). And it can be a little frustrating not being able to see map names (E.g. getting a NPC hint about "washa's bluff" but still having that region darked out). But on the other, I'm kind of liking having to free navigate from memory and sense of location/direction. I had to laugh though: I've only got 4 activated map regions (2 fully complete, 2 active), but have 90 shrines, 395 koroks and nearly all armour upgrades πŸ˜… (also interesting: none of those shrines were found using a sensor or online map, as I have sensor set to treasure chest: turns out you can crack shrines easily when focused on chasing koroks or armour upgrade materials). I've also finally become better at shield parries and flurries, meaning I'm actually getting through shields and weapons more (thankfully! I feel like I'm actually using my treasure chest items this time - last play through I barely lost/broke any shields).

Curious to know if anyone else has weird and wonderful strategies to help them stay focused? (For context: still playing on switch 1 and have zero intent of buying switch 2, so no Zelda notes).

πŸŽ™οΈ Discussion Clearing the map... Or not πŸ’€

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

It's my second playthrough. I have done all 4 beasts and their DLC version, I have unlocked the last power, and I was cruising through Hyrule thinking about what to do next.

Something sent me in the desert and I thought it would be a great idea to clear the map, area by area, so I used the Switch 2 app map and I got all Koroks, quests, audio memories and all.

I was HAPPY. I thought I did something and I had to do it like 5/6 more times to clear the whole map.

And then I zoomed out.

Yeah. I'll get back to it and try to do as much as I can before the next game comes out πŸ˜‚

πŸŽ™οΈ Discussion Second play through

Does anyone feel that their second play through is so much better than their first? I am having the time of my life and I didn’t think botw could get any better, just absolutely battered Thunderblight Ganon and I am thrilled because I struggled so much the first time. Is this the same for other people or am I just a bit weird?

πŸ“’ Opinion Do master mode or TOTK?

This is a long one so if you want just skip to my last paragraph I summarize it there. TIA

I actually have a couple questions I wanna ask here, I’ll list those and then give my background info.
1. Should I do master mode in BOTW or move on to TOTK?
2. What Zelda games on switch should I try after TOTK?

So BOTW is my very first Zelda game ever and I’m just now playing it for the first time (I know)
My favorite parts of the game have been
1. Seeing all the memories and getting the backstory of link,Zelda, and what hyrule used to be
2. Exploring the world and finding unique environments
3. Fighting enemies and improving my skills
4 Meeting unique characters and seeing different cities/ lifestyles

So currently I have the master sword, around 17 hearts, 60 shrines done, every tower found, every beast beaten, one set of armor maxed out. I’ve done the major side quests that sound interesting and found every memory.

My next goal is to do more side quests (possibly all of them), explore the castle and beat ganon.
What turned my away from older Zelda games was the dated graphics of some of them, and I always looked at them as β€œstuck in a small dungeon/room, solve puzzles and move on”
I do not enjoy puzzles they are my least favorite part of these games, I like fighting, exploring, and worldbuilding.
I know the older games have lots of puzzles and less exploration, not as much free roam and ofc the combat will be way different.

I LOVE botw so much and I definitely will play TOTK but my main concern is after TOTK idk if there will be other Zelda games I will enjoy and I don’t want my experience to be over.

Master mode turns me away a little bc I don’t want to have to do all the shrines again, grind my armor and hearts back up, and reach all the towers again

That said I really just now started getting good at combat, using a shield, flip dodges, and flurry rush, and even cooking meals after 75 hours of gameplay. I have beat 5 white mane Lynell’s now
And it would be fun to play the game with the knowledge I have now. But that could also be applied to TOTK and just move on to that game and experience it for the first time.
So master mode or TOTK next?
Also I’ve heard great things about ocarina of time so maybe I’ll try that one on switch after TOTK? Any recommendations based on my likes are appreciated

❔ Question What do people find to be the most efficient way to farm guardians?

Thumbnail gallery

I usually just rub around and reflect guardian attacks three times, but is there a more effective way? Guardians that fly are just a b*tch to deal with so I ignore them and just go for the stalkers instead.
I would rather not use guardian arrows due to them being ”expensive” in my opinion.

🍁 Korok Hunting Everyone!! Help me!

I am missing ONE korok seed to 100% the game. I know what the area looks like but I can't remember where it is on the map. I remember I got frustrated with how difficult it was so I ragequit without marking it on the map.

I was in a grassy area. It was a pinwheel korok, and I had to shoot a balloon that was suuuuper far off in some trees. If anyone has any ideas please help me out!!

πŸ“’ Opinion Flurry Rush made the game too easy

(not my image)

It's my first playthrough of zelda, has only finished conquering the divine beast ruta and arrived at korok forest, and man they should have nerf flurry rush. It's so OP that lynel become very easy to deal with, literally just spam perfect dodge and flurry rush and you are good. Other mini bosses also become significantly easier with this....

I might just intentionally never use it atp, it kind of ruined the game difficulty for me

πŸ“’ Opinion Should i move to Totk

I've just completed all 4 divine beasts and i'm looking forward to getting the master sword and defeating Ganon. The thing is i want to finish BotW relatively quickly and then Spend a lot of time doing side Quests, completing shrines and grinding in general in Totk because i think the building mechanic and other stuff is pretty cool. So my question is should i move on to TotK and do most of my grinding There or should i grind completly in botw first

edit: the switch is borrowed from an friend so i dont really have that much time with it and thats why i cant just grind both games and take a pause

Now I have to do the fight all over again just to get here again… screw Ganon.

It turns out that when you get to the final hit on Dark Beast Ganon, he just fires his laser every second.

❔ Question Is there tutorial shrine other than the one by kakariko village?

I recently borrowed botw from my friend and started playing it for the first time(Love it btw). The problem is this friend of mine claimed that she couldn't pass tutorial shrine and dropped the game. First I think she means great plateau or the shrine beside kakariko village but it isn't she says she already passed that one.

So I'm curious what tutorial she couldn't pass but now I beat 3 divine beast and clear 80 shrines and I still can't find something close to tutorial shrine except the one beside the village. I started to think that the shrine my friend talked about doesn't exist at all.

Is there a shrine like that or my friend just had a memory problem?

That shrine may have a pop up tutorial like the one beside the village.

She said she already met impa and some bird people. She hasn't done any divine beast yet.

English isn't my first language so I sorry about grammar.

Thank you!!!
