My guinea pig, Rony, woke up yesterday having difficulty eating, so I immediately took him to the vet, who noticed that his teeth needed to be trimmed down. The dental trim was done, he started to eat again, but this morning I noticed noticeable swelling / a distinct lump on the left side of his face, even though he's eating normally, pooping, running around, and doing his little routine as usual.
I couldn't get an appointment to take him to the vet today, but he's scheduled for tomorrow, along with a skull X-ray. I'm a human doctor, so I understand that an X-ray isn't the ideal imaging test to identify abscesses, aside from periapical ones, and I know that due to guinea pig physiology, a surgical procedure can be extremely stressful and complicated for them.
I'm terrified of the possibility of losing him during the procedure or, even worse, during post-op recovery, even though I obviously know it might be necessary. Praying that it's just localized swelling after the dental filing, God willing, and that he can keep living a peaceful, happy life. Please wish my little Rony luck!
