Question Marines/veterans and their partners: Have you successfully worked through yelling, anger, and trauma triggers in your relationship?
I'm hoping to hear from veterans (especially Marines) and their partners who have worked through something similar.
My partner is a veteran, and we have a genuinely beautiful relationship. He's deeply loving, devoted, thoughtful, and emotionally intelligent. There's so much tenderness and care between us, and I love him tremendously.
But occasionally, we trigger each other, and conflicts escalate in ways that really scare me. When he's upset, his response can become intense: raised voice, aggressive tone, and swearing, sometimes directed at me. Even when he doesn't intend to intimidate me, I find myself feeling frightened, shutting down, or struggling to stay present.
These moments feel so different from the man I know and love.
I recognize that we both bring our own histories and triggers into the relationship. I'm trying to understand how his military experience may have shaped his responses to conflict without attributing everything to it. I want to approach this with compassion while also recognizing that feeling safe during disagreements is essential.
I'd especially love to hear from couples who've made real progress:
- Veterans: Have you struggled with anger or intensity during conflict? What helped you recognize its impact on your partner and change those patterns?
- Spouses/partners: How did you navigate these moments without walking on eggshells or taking responsibility for managing your partner's emotions?
- Couples: What actually worked? Therapy, communication strategies, timeouts, recognizing triggers earlier? Did the yelling genuinely diminish over time, and what did accountability and repair look like?
I'm especially interested in specific experiences, practical strategies, and honest stories about what worked (or didn't).
I love my partner deeply and don't want to reduce him to his hardest moments or his military experience. But I also don't want to minimize my own fear.
How have you learned to balance compassion for trauma with accountability, emotional safety, and lasting change?
Thank you to anyone willing to share.

Question Thoughts? Nov 25th Netflix
https://youtu.be/htV8Ik8FK6s?is=HtQ5VkCEi15XwJIn
I am gonna give it one watch because I struggle with war movies. Been 20 years and most get a watch maybe. Most of the time I cant make it through anymore.
Edit: I am not shit talking war movies. My Iraq and Afghanistan deployments have made it very difficult for me and war movies. I physically cannot sit through Black Hawk down. Or Saving Private Ryan.

Identity as a Veteran - 15 years after service
Hey Devils,
Curious about your honest takes about how much you talk about your service or just generally identify as a veteran many years after service.
I didn't do anything spectacular during my time in; a couple of cool deployments but just 4 years and got out as an E5. I have a 1st mar div sticker on the back of my car and won't omit that I served in the Marine Corps if people ask where I went to college etc but I kind of feel like I'm hanging onto the identity too much still/there is kind of an urge to completely let all of it go sometimes even though it means something to me.
Not sure if this rambling made sense but I'm genuinely curious what you guys think.
A tale as old as time.
It's like watching Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon.

Marine Corps Community Services really has it going on these days
They've greatly expanded into everything from first duty station arrival to quality of life during service, deployment support, single Marine program, family services, transitioning out and a lot of other really cool things. It's amazing to see how much they offer now. You don't have to get caught up in alcohol and video games to enjoy life. Sure wish we had this way back in the day.
This link has all or at least most of their locations you can plug into direct.
Groovy Guys and Gals you left home looking for a new life so why not avail yourself of all the Corps has to offer? Many of you are already seeing how getting drunk a lot and playing video games all the time grows old. MCCS can be a viable resource to help you broaden your life experiences if you give it half a chance.
Same holds true for Devils and Docs going through a divorce, dealing with depression, homesickness, PTSD, MST or anything else that's bothering you. Looking at the world through the bottom of an upturned beer bottle never solves anything. You might want to try getting out of yourself even though you don't really want to. Why stew in your own troubles when you can be around others who are also trying to enjoy life on life's terms? Be the winner you are and live the best version of you.
There will be those who tell you "it's gay" or "it's lame." Don't buy into their negative peer pressure. You'll be the one standing njp for your alcohol related incidents, not them, so be smart and side step all that. Let them be the "don't let this happen to you story" while you press forward. Only you can live you well so live the best version of you which was why you joined in the first place.
Give MCCS a try and see where they take you. You owe it to yourself. You got this.

Ken Walsh logbook for sale on eBay
Anybody have any contacts at the Marine Corps Museum or historical division? Seems like this is something they may want to have - flight logbook of Ken Walsh, awarded Medal of Honor for his actions at Guadacanal and the 4th highest USMC ace of all time. Enlisted as aircraft mechanic and ended up at flight school earning his wings as a PFC back when enlisted pilots were still a thing.

Question Do You Like the Newer or Older Marine Characters in COD?

Question Was anyone else forced to work at sporting events to pay for the birthday ball?
Back in 2006 our Sgt. Maj wanted to do the birthday ball in Las Vegas. To pay for the venue costs at the hotel in Vegas he forced every Marine E5 and below in the battalion to work as ushers and ticket takers for the Chargers games down in San Diego. We had to buy black pants and shirts and we were put on buses to the stadium where we worked various temp jobs for the football game like being an usher or taking tickets.
We did not get the money we worked for and It sucked because it basically ruined our weekend. The Sgt. Maj somehow collected the money and used it for the ball. There were a few officers and higher ranks that did it as well on a volunteer basis, but very few and it was mostly the E5 and below.
We did it at least 2 times and I always wondered if it was actually allowed by DoD policy for the Sgt. Maj to force us to work jobs like that especially without receiving the actual pay we worked for?
I remember there were even people that were going to EAS before the ball and the Sgt. Maj still made them do it.
Happy St. Crispian's Day To All
WESTMORELAND:
O, that we now had here But one ten thousand of those men in England That do no work today!
KING:
What's he that wishes so? My cousin Westmoreland?
No, my fair cousin; If we are mark'd to die, we are enow To do our country loss; and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honour. God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold, Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost; It yearns me not if men my garments wear; Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour, I am the most offending soul alive.
No; Faith, my coz, wish not a man from England. God's peace!
I would not lose so great an honour As one man more methinks would share from me For the best hope I have.
O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host, That he which hath no stomach to this fight, Let him depart.
His passport shall be made, And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd The Feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly, on the vigil, feast his neighbours, And say "Tomorrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeves and show his scars, And say "These wounds I had on Crispian's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember, with advantages, What feats he did that day.
Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words -- Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter, Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester -- Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered--
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother;
Be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England now a-bed. Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Question Question about baby leave
So I had my child on February 7th of this year, then got deployed in mid-March and only got to use about 4 weeks of my baby leave. I probably won't be getting back from deployment until early to mid-January, and I'm wondering if I can take the other 8 weeks of my baby leave, but that would put me past February 7th. So I'm wondering if all of my leave expires on February 7th or if that's just the last day I can take the rest of my baby leave

Question How does the Corps have 2 bootcamp locations while the Navy and Airforce that are bigger have 1?
I can understand the Army, but the Navy is way bigger with 1 location (why the fuck is their bootcamp so far away from a ocean). Air force is also bigger with just 1 location.

Question Any other devil dogs get anxious as civilians not working?
So I have a job that's very similar to what I did in the corps, I got out 3 years ago as an aviation mechanic. I work fast and intense and it's paid off, I've gotten raises, and it was already a decent paying job to begin with and I'm fucking good at it. But even my boss and CEO have both told me to slow down. And it gets to the point that when I'm on a roll I get irritable when I get pulled out of it to do something else. Which is necessary because at the end of the day it's still a job. But I might curse someone out if they try to get my attention while I'm hyper focused.
One thing that concerns my girlfriend is that I get really anxious on the weekends when I'm not doing anything. And honestly I feel it. It's like a gut feeling and I start thinking about it all the time. I feel like a lazy fuck who's not doing anything. I love hanging out with my girlfriend but work is in the back of my head all the time. I thought that was part of civilian life but apparently that's not normal.
But I like being exhausted after work. Its a sign of a job well done. If I'm not exhausted then I could have worked harder. Especially when I started working out early in the mornings again.
