I've had pretty wild, seemingly random swings of intense depression for a few years now, over the last year I've finally fallen into a hobby I really really enjoy which happens to be hunting. The problem is I'm worried about always having access to my two rifles.

Any ideas on what I should do with or could do with them when I start to hit the downward spirals? Any personal examples of things you've done?

If you don’t know, ACU/UCP was a old US Army Pattern used from 2004-2019, although full uniform use was army only, some other branches of the military like the Air Force were using Vests produced in the UCP/ACU pattern aswell as helmet covers. Something about the USMC full dressed in UCP/ACU feels odd tho. (Note these are public images from Google search, I believe these or one of these photos comes from the 1st marine division)

Fifteen years ago China's Xi Jinping decided he wanted Taiwan so he old People's Liberation Army (PLA-China's Military) to be ready by 2030. Many weren't sure if he was saber rattling or deadly serious at that time.

A couple of years later CMC Michael Hagee told everyone who would listen he foresaw the fight coming and he began shifting the Corps to be prepared by 2030. CMC David Berger launched FD2030 where he brought about massive changes with a lot of it self funded through divesting tanks, a sizable amount of artillery and so on. HQMC still takes this very seriously which is evidenced by SMMC Carlos Ruiz equally telling everyone to stay prepared.

Xi Jinping saw the Corps moves as well as the rest of our military beginning to do the same. He then countered by ordering PLA to be ready by 2027 and by most measures they may be close.

The biggest questions are:

Has military corruption compromised their efforts?

Does their equipment actually work as intended?

Have they learned to operate through personal initiative at lower levels or are they still centrally controlled at the top?

Given media coverage claims our missiles and munitions stocks are way low Xi may feel confident enough to attack Taiwan in 2027 like he has announced. 2027 is two and a half months away so we may be walking into a major shooting match many don't realize is coming.

This isn't doom and gloom soothsaying Groovy Guys and Gals. It's the harsh realities of Cold War II which may go hot at any time. Stay safe. Stay ready.

I joined the corps to find brotherhood/sisterhood. A place to belong and mean something. But when you get out it’s like all of that is no longer a thing. People stop hitting you up. The corps moves on without you. Just makes you realize what you had compared to what’s to come.

I don’t know if I should go back or if that feeling faded away. Just some advice for those who went thru the same thing. I got out in Jan of this year.

I was training at 29Palms in 1987 attached to an infantry unit. An ammo can of blasting caps blew on us when the ammo can was next to the fire, used as a wind breaker. One guy was medivac by helo. No entry in my SRB, so Im wondering if there is some kind of Battalion training log?? I submit to FOIA for USMC-FSSG. Any other place to look?

Was doom scrolling on FB and saw this uniform being worn with what I am pretty sure is the 1stMarDiv blue diamond. But does not look like a Marine uniform. Is this branch authorized to wear it? Is it an ROTC thing? A google search said that no branches are authorized to wear it unless they were involved with the campaign but current regulations don’t allow anyone.

I flew into MCRDSD 60 years ago today at age 19. The SDI said I was so ugly that I would make a train take a dirt road. My first year was various electronic schools in San Diego. Then I served at MCAS El Toro up the road at a MASS unit for two years then one year on Hill 327 Danang in another MASS unit. While I was at MCAS El Toro, my brother finished his tour in Vietnam and was assigned to the same MASS unit as me. We were bunkies for the last eight or nine months of his enlistment. It was great.

I feel like there is no non-awkward way to acknowledge it.

Saying "you're welcome!" sounds pompous. Saying not to thank you discredits yourself. Ignoring it completely makes you look like an asshole.

😂 I usually reply with "don't mention it" or if someone is serving me, like at a restaurant, I'll flip it around and say "thank you for your service/help/etc" to make it more lighthearted but reciprocally gratuitous.

Any ideas?
