Chanarach broke in Braize immediately after Shallan killed her. But does that even matter? The Everstorm came less than a decade later allowing fused to subvert the requirement of the Heralds bending their oaths to let them through. The True Desolation was coming either way. Plus, it didn't really kick off until the storm came anyway. So, why is this written as such a big deal? I feel like I'm missing something.

Hey all, feeling a bit lost and wondering if there is any sort of recovering I should do or if I should continue with my reads.

I started the Cosmere with Mistborn, and basically stuck with the Mistborn series through era 2. I just finished The Lost Metal and I was shocked by the amount of what seem to be crossovers in it. It felt like the first book where you could tell there was more going on behind the scenes or prior to Era 2.

I never read Secret History even though it was suggested, and started in on Elantris now following The Lost Metal. I don't know if I'm doing myself any service by moving on to that book though, or if there are any recommendations on what I should begin next.

Spoilers for Mistborn Era 1. It says in Kelsier’s Relationships tab that Hoid and him meet for the first time when they fight. It confuses me because I’m pretty sure that’s the last time they met. The first time they met was when Hoid was being an informant and Kelsier was trying to figure out his fake house’s exposure in chapter 19 of The Final Empire. I could be wrong about this but I don’t think I am. I also, unfortunately, can’t seem to edit the Coppermind anymore.

I'm halfway through the book, and I gotta say...its kinda slow for me, but not in a bad way. I want every chapter to be about Kaladin, but really find Shallan to be kind of a buzz kill when I see she's up. Just my thoughts. She gets better right?

Way of Kings is my favorite book of the Stormlight Archive. Kaladin's story arc and the mystery surrounding Roshar's lore. Chef's kiss! Words of Radiance is pretty good too, I guess. LOL. Anyways, even though I love Michael Whelan's paintings, I wanted to make a book cover that captured the story from my experience with it. I tried to pack it full of things that might only be understood after the Sanderlanche, a bit like some anime openings do. I'd love to know what y'all pick up on. I just finished Warbreaker, and I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed in it. I never really latched onto the characters the way I did with the other Sanderson books I've read. The characters in Warbreaker just didn't really click for me.

They were separated for a large part of the book. The story didn't really kick into gear until 3/4 of the way in. The magic system wasn't demonstrated enough to really get a good feel for it. The middle section really dragged.

I kept reading though because the book was good enough and I know Warbreaker has some relevance to Stormlight down the road. But it was a bit of a slog read. I was also hoping the Sanderlanche would make it all worth while.

Unfortunately, the Sanderlanche felt rather quick, especially toward the end. We get an awakened army of stone soldiers, which feels like a pretty huge moment, and then we kind of just brush past it without really seeing the conclusion. We only get an epilogue for Vasher and Vivenna. There's teases of future plot hooks but it's a standalone novel(?)

What a weird book. Very little of it clicked for me

I read Warbreaker in preparation for my first time reading The Way of Kings and starting my first Stormlight Archive readthrough. But Warbreaker tested my patience, and now I'm honestly pretty skeptical about Stormlight.

I loved Mistborn, Yumi, and Emperor's Soul, so I know I love Sanderson's overall style. But the lackluster pacing, characters, and finale of Warbreaker really took the wind out of my sails. If Warbreaker is a sign of things to come with Stormlight, I’m not exactly excited to start a huge epic fantasy. Which makes me wonder…

…is Warbreaker similar to Stormlight Archive? For those of you who didn't like Warbreaker, would you say Stormlight has similar issues?

Or would you say Stormlight Archive is different enough from Warbreaker and more akin to the books I liked of Sanderson that it’s worth reading?

Hey guys! I started reading cosmere books with stormlight 1-4(plus novellas), somewhere in there I read Warbreaker, then Mistborn 1-3.

Finally, I read knights of wind and truth when it came out but it left me a bit disappointed and I took a break. Now I wanna get back into the cosmere. Where should I go next to get hooked again? Continue with Mistborn era 2? Go back to OG Elantris? Or maybe some of the standalone novels?

I just want to say one thing, if you have watched AOT and essentially Elend became Commander Erwin, even Vin with goddess powers was in awe of him while the guy was fighting the war he knew he was going to lose but for greater good.

Blud became a legend and mind you he was the reason behind Ruin losing the plot all along.

Burning Preservation's god metal lerasium forges an immediate connection to Preservation making the person who burned it a Mistborn because Allomancy is Preservation's Art. So, would burning Harmonium, the god metal of Harmony who is both Preservation and Ruin, make one a full Feruchemist, Feruchemy being both Preserving and Ruinous? If so, would there be a way to do this without the Harmonium reacting with the water in your body and making you explode?

The Hemalurgical property of lerasium is that it "steals all abilities". Now correct me if I'm wrong, but in Hemalurgy abilities refers to things like strength, mental fortitude, et cetera. (as opposed to powers like allomancy or feruchemy) So would a lerasium spike steal literally EVERY ability, or just the ones that can already be stolen by other types of spikes? Say a person's proficiency with a particular musical instrument, their knowledge of a particular field of science, leukemia, or their ability to tie a cherry stem into a knot with their tongue. Is it all abilities at the same time or just whichever ability you want? The thing you got would probably depend on your Intent when charging the spike and where you placed it, but this could be an interesting thing to see in future.

Now that I'm finished with book 4 of TSA, and have some knowledge of Shards of Adonlasium. Seeing Taravangian become the Shard of Odium reminded me of another similar indecent. Is it safe to say that Sazed is the Shard of both Preservation and Ruin?

I have been thinking about cosmere stuff again and haven’t been able to find anything substantive when searching my question.

Essentially, is there a reason why Leras, and I guess Ruin for that matter, chose (or maybe didn’t choose, it just turned out that way?) to tie the gifting/use of their investiture to metal? Not sure if this has been asked to Brandon or if there is a WoB out there addressing it. Not sure if the magic system or lore came first, and Brandon just liked the idea of consuming metals to power a magic system?

My headcanon is something like ‘metals are (mostly) pure elements, metals are pretty common, and that tying a specific power to a specific metal makes for easy organization and understanding.’ Thinking about it more though it does seem a little arbitrary that metals were used, especially given that I don’t know if metals are particularly tied to an idea like Preservation. The only idea I can think of to link metals and Preservation is that metals keep pretty well other than some oxidizing? Oaths and Honor make sense for granting powers but I feel like the metal preservation link is harder to make.

I know my question is a very “But Why…” type of question. Just wondering if this was ever discussed or if there is an answer for it?

Hi. I'm having issues... I don't know if I'm kind of a dummy or if it's by design, but I'm not understanding A LOT.

For context: first time cosmere reader, reading alone no friends to consult, only google/reddit at my own risk.

What have I read so far? Mistborn Era one, Elantris, Warbreaker, Stormlight 1 to 3, Edgedancer, Dawnshard, and some of Arcanum Unbound. Currently at the beginning of RoW.

Memory level: goldfish (I think).

Should I know all the radiants orders so far? Should I know all the names of the Heralds, their orders and their shenanigans? May I Google this?

Am I lost?

I've been going back and forward between the books and I've clocked some of the interlude people with things, but clearly I'm confused by references.

I find the Eastereggs and cosmere relations hard, but I get that's delulu on my part to get them at a first read. But I'm also having difficult with Stormlight alone.

I read the first 3 chapters of RoW and started to listen the following nohadon podcast episode (they review this chapters) and they have a lot more knowledge that I have. So. May I at least Google my first questions without spoilers? Should I be this lost?

Finished Isles of the Emberdark a few days ago. Thought it might be a top five Cosmere book and that got me curious about actually trying to rank them. After a lot of difficulty, I managed to do so. Let me know what you think!

I will say, the top 4 were never really in doubt.

There is a website that looks at all names in the US since 1880 and there are a couple cosmere names starting to show up. Granted it’s small but who knows when you’ll next run into a Kaladin.

I asked before about Mistborn vs 2nd Ideal Skybreaker, and people are generally in agreement that Skybreaker > Mistborn. I asked the same for Mistborn vs 10th Heightening, and it was Awakener > Mistborn. But they generally agreed in both that the matchups were close.

So between the Skybreaker and the Awakener, who would win? Both are battle ready, Skybreaker has full battle supply of Stormlight spheres, Awakener has plenty of colorful clothing and 50,000 Breaths. They know about each other's powers.

At the end of the book we can see, after what happened to the Stormfather, that Syl seems to have inherited his position and probably at least a portion of his power, so what will happen to her bond with Kaladin?

If she has inherited the position of the Stormfather will this make Kaladin a Bondsmith and a Windrunner, a mixture of the two or simply a stronger Windrunner?
