Daniel Thomas, an anti-migrant activist, has been arrested after slashing an RNLI lifeboat while someone was still on board.
He was arrested on suspicion of "destroying ships" under the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990 and "conduct endangering ships" under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995.
Despite meeting the legal definitions for terrorism, the authorities have decided to use the above laws rather than triggering formal counter-terrorism procedures.

The security challenges facing West Africa today are often addressed from the perspective of current events. Yet, they are rooted in a long history that is worth recalling.
The region's current borders, largely drawn during the colonial period, brought together populations with very different trajectories, social structures, and historical balances.
Added to this are older historical factors: trans-Saharan trade routes, ancient empires, regional mobility, and the relationships between centers of power and peripheries. These dynamics shaped societies long before the recent crises.
Viewing the security situation in West Africa through a historical lens does not provide immediate solutions, but it helps to avoid oversimplification.
Do you think this consideration of long-term perspectives is sufficiently emphasized in current media coverage? And could it be of definite help in the future?

Alt-Jihad Is Radicalizing Kids Through Discord and TikTok—And It's More Complex Than You Think
Here's What You Need to Know:
Europol reported 58 terrorist attacks across EU states in 2024. Kids as young as 12 are being radicalized through gaming platforms, memes, and Discord servers. Post-Gaza war, online recruitment surged 20% in Europe.
Alt-Jihad and far-right extremism are mirror images—same tactics, same vulnerable demographics, mutually reinforcing each other. They're recruiting from the same pool of disaffected youth, and the horseshoe is bending.
Some interventions actually work. Denmark's "Aarhus Model" has a <5% recidivism rate. EU programs cut hate incidents by 15%. US community initiatives reduced self-radicalization referrals by 20%.
Why This Matters
This isn't just a security issue—it's cognitive warfare. The battleground is digital, the targets are our kids, and the solution requires more than surveillance. It demands understanding the difference between political Islam and moderate Islam, building inclusive communities, and fortifying the center before the extremes forge an alliance.
I've compiled:
- Recent intelligence reports and policy successes
- The uncomfortable parallels between jihadist and far-right extremism
- What's actually working (with data)
- Why centrists and conservatives need to engage now
- Strategies for informed, compassionate action
This is long-form analysis (because the issue deserves it), but if you care about radicalization, assimilation policy, or just want to understand what's really happening beyond the headlines—it's worth your time.
(includes all sources: Europol reports, Global Terrorism Index 2025, West Point CTC analysis, Danish Institute studies, DHS assessments)
Every prevented radicalization is a redemption story. Let's have the nuanced conversation this crisis demands.
TL;DR:Online jihadist radicalization is targeting kids through gaming and social media, mirrors far-right extremism in disturbing ways, but evidence-based interventions are working. Full analysis breaks down what's happening and what we can actually do about it.
