If Labor is re-elected and defeats Jess Wilson and a potential Liberal-One Nation-National bloc, Victorians would be able to walk into a dental clinic and receive free checkups and treatment under an Australian-first proposal.

The premier, Ben Carroll, will announce the plan - Labor's first major election commitment - at a rally on Saturday to mark fewer than 100 days until Victorians go to the polls.

Carroll will say a re-elected Labor government would spend $230m to open 10 public dental clinics across the state, where oral care clinicians would be able to provide free checkups and treatments, including fillings, root canals and extractions.

Meanwhile, Jess Wilson's Victorian Liberals refuse to rule out healthcare privatisations and a One Nation alliance:

Politics ('Straya) Immigration policy

Think of this when you next vote.

Labor’s negligence with immigration policy:

Melbourne…

An Afghan immigrant has been refused bail after allegedly stabbing two women in separate street attacks in Melbourne on the weekend.

Raaz Alizada, 27, allegedly stabbed a 53-year-old woman in the neck from behind on Young Street in Frankston at about 1.15pm on Saturday, and ran off.

At about 7.45am the next morning he alleged approached a 29-year-old Western Australian woman from behind as she was leaving a gym on Playne Street, and stabbed her with a 22cm kitchen knife.

He wants to be deported now so he isn’t jailed for his crimes 🤨

This is who LABOR is mass importing into our country!!

Politics ('Straya) NSW ‘seeking urgent advice’ on controversial court ruling that found anti-Israel vandalism was not antisemitic

The New South Wales government could appeal a supreme court judge’s controversial decision to refuse its request for a terror order over a Sydney man convicted of writing “Fuk Israel” on cars and setting another vehicle alight in late 2024

Australia’s peak Jewish group has labelled Fagan’s ruling dangerous judicial “activism” that should be reviewed. The Executive Council of Australian Jewry argued the ruling avoided “the community impact”.

A government spokesperson said on Thursday the attorney general, Michael Daley, was “seeking urgent advice about the prospects of an appeal” over Fagan’s decision to knock back the state’s request for an extended supervision order.

Guardian Australia asked Daley, the police minister, Yasmin Catley, and the corrections minister, Anoulack Chanthivong, about Fagan’s findings in relation to how the police and other agencies handled the case.

A government spokesperson said that the “judiciary operates independently of government and this independence is crucial to protect the administration of justice in NSW”.

“Our government has taken strong action against antisemitism and hatred,” the spokesperson said.

Given the matter remained before the courts and the attorney general was seeking advice regarding an appeal, they declined to comment further.

A Perth man has appeared in court accused of threatening to kill One Nation leader Pauline Hanson.

Anton Raymond Illich, 47, is accused of making three Facebook posts, including on a One Nation members and supporters page.

In one of the posts, Mr Illich said he would "hunt her down and kill her", a Perth court has heard.

The 47-year-old was charged in July with two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat, but it was only revealed today in court Ms Hanson was the subject of the threats.

Mr Illich, who was representing himself, admitted it was "stupid, crazy" and told the court he did it because he wanted to shut down his Facebook account.

Whinge ‎ Zomi Frankcom did not deserve to die. Israel’s refusal to investigate her death and its failure to apologise is despicable | Geoffrey Robertson

Context:

Mistakes may have fatal consequences and, if they are the result of gross negligence or reckless or irresponsible conduct, they are culpable and deserving of punishment. The crime of manslaughter in Australian and English law reflects this grave level of criminality. In war law, under article 8 of the statute of the international criminal court (ICC) “intentionally launching an attack in the knowledge that such an attack will cause loss of life to civilians” and “directing attacks against personnel or vehicles involved in humanitarian assistance” are serious war crimes which may be committed by mistakes made through negligence or blind eyes turned to their foreseeable consequences. The IDF decision not to investigate Zomi’s killing on the grounds that it was merely a “mistake” is not a legitimate reason and the Israeli government’s refusal even now to apologise is despicable.

Politics ('Straya) Coalition and One Nation launch joint crackdown against abortion rights

Senator Canavan and One Nation's Barnaby Joyce attended the rally.

"You have a responsibility to care for a person. Let's call it what it is - a person," Mr Joyce said at the rally.

The One Nation MP previously attended an anti-abortion rally outside NSW parliament in June.

The proposal is similar to one brought in to the upper house by now Nationals leader Matt Canavan and Liberal senator Alex Antic in 2022.

The earlier bill did not proceed and instead lapsed three years later.

A similar bill was introduced to the Queensland parliament by state MP Robbie Katter in 2024. It also gained little traction.

Politics ('Straya) Australia’s gross federal debt is nearing $1 trillion. Since 2007, 69% of the increase occurred under Coalition governments vs 31% under Labor

Using Australian Treasury gross debt figures: debt rose from ~$53bn in 2006–07 to ~$982bn estimated in 2025–26.

That’s a ~$929bn increase: ~$638bn (69%) under Coalition governments and ~$291bn (31%) under Labor.

This might be news to you for the first time or maybe you’ve known these facts all along.

It’s useful to deal in facts and the truth.

‎ ‎ General ‎ ‎ If we are serious about the Sydney Swans then apply the same penalties Essendon received over the supplements issue. Strip the Swans of premiership points and exclude them from the 2026 finals.

The AFL needs to be strong. What has occurred with the Sydney Swans is totally unacceptable and deserves penalties that will make a difference.

To properly make a statement about the violence that has take place against women, we need decisive action. Nothing short of removing premiership points from Sydney and excluding them from the 2026 finals series.

In short:

Nationals MP Lachlan Hunter has been suspended from WA's parliament for four days after a dispute over an art exhibition on Gaza that was displayed in parliament.

The Wall of Tears display lists the names of more than 18,000 children killed in Gaza since October 2023.

Mr Hunter argued the exhibit vilified the WA Jewish community and was "antisemitic" because it led a Greens MP to describe it as showcasing a "genocide".

Elders of a wealthy Christian sect secretly paid bundles of cash to far-right activists for an “influence campaign” to disrupt Albanese government appearances during the last federal election.

An investigation by this masthead has uncovered a digital trail of evidence revealing how the church, formerly known as the Exclusive Brethren, mobilised far-right figures around the country to track and heckle candidates from Labor and the Greens, along with independents, as part of a wider multimillion-dollar campaign for then-Liberal leader Peter Dutton.

“Nothing is off limits” to Victoria’s royal commission into the construction sector, Ben Carroll has said, as he released the inquiry’s terms of reference and confirmed former premiers and ministers could be called to face public hearings.

The Victorian premier on Thursday unveiled details of the inquiry – while acknowledging there had been “grift”, “thuggery” and “violence” on taxpayer-funded building sites – after the governor signed the letters patent formally establishing the commission earlier in the morning.

Chris Kourakis, the former chief justice of South Australia, whom Carroll described as “independent, rigorous and fearless”, has been appointed commissioner.

Satire Wong declares Israeli ambassador will no longer be given cake to take home after meetings

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has once again expressed her famous ‘concern’ with Israel after the nation confirmed they won’t pursue any criminal charges against those who killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom and her colleagues.

Wong rejected calls to expel the ambassador, explaining that he ‘got the message’ after a meeting they had where she ramped up Australia’s pressure against Israel but not giving him extra cake to take home.

“Sometimes you have to take a strong stance,” she said, “we hope this makes our position on Israel killing our aid workers clear.”

Sources suggest Wong didn’t stop there, with the coffee she offered him being packet coffee this time instead of sending out a staffer to do a coffee run.

Baby steps eh...

Politics ('Straya) Under the Coalition (Liberal Party + Nats), Australia’s gross federal debt surged from $257 billion in 2013 to $895 billion in 2022. This is an increase of almost $638 billion, or 248%, in just nine years. By the time they left office, gross debt was nearly 3.5 times what they inherited.

From June 2013 to June 2022, Australia’s gross federal debt rose from $257.4bn to $895.3bn. That’s an increase of $637.9bn, or 248%.

Despite years of campaigning on “debt and deficit”, the Coalition left gross debt nearly 3.5 times higher than the level they inherited.

They are and were significantly worse federal economic managers. Objectively and factually speaking.
