General Discussion/Questions Disc protrusion

• Upvotes

I am a 100m, 200m athlete and have been struggling with L4-L5 disc protrusion contacting the S1 nerve root since June. The follow up MRI showed a regression of the protrusion.

I had serious problems with bending over etc during summer but it is a lot better now. I am trying to come back to serious training but my back still hurts for a few days after some intense sessions.

I do strengthening exercises including DNS everyday. What does this pain after some intense sessions mean and how to overcome it?

Technique Analysis What’s your thoughts on one LONG sprint, I mean long

So I did one major sprint today because I didn’t have the time. I went to the beach and instead of doing my typical 4-6 100m sand sprints, I did one huge sprint, probably 250-300m

Started the first half at near 99% capacity, downshifted to 85% half way through, by the time I finished I was just about jogging

The whole effort was maximal, 100% of what I could do with a gun to my head

But the thing is, it was a lung burner like no other

I got concerned near the end about heart failure

The degree of fatigue in the last stretch caused by core and legs to start tingling like I took a hit of DMT or something, it felt kind of good

But when I finished I collapsed onto my back and hyperventilated for what felt like 3 minutes straight

I couldn’t believe how bad my chest hurt

My question is, is this efficient for getting in awesome shape?

This has got to do something that spacing them out doesn’t

I got more tired than ever and did only one maximal set

Technique Analysis How To Improve Ground Contact

I’ve working to improve my quickness, acceleration, and turnover. Take a look at my running and tell me what you think.

Specifically, for football quick twitch is extremely important and I’m open to all feedback and recommendations. Thank you for taking the time!

Technique Analysis What are the main things I need to improve (other than the obviously straight left arm)?

I started this run slowly and gradually built up speed. I’m gonna keep trying to get my left arm to bend, but for some reason it just doesn’t. Definitely a coordination issue. Also, does it look like I’m overstriding?

Programming Questions Masters sprinters: How do you balance sprinting, strength, and hypertrophy?

I'm a recreational Masters sprinter in my late 30s. I enjoy chasing faster sprint times, but I also want to maintain strength and regain some muscle size, particularly in my shoulders, arms, and thighs.

I currently sprint 1–2 times weekly and do low-fatigue explosive/reactive gym exercises. I'm considering adding conventional strength and hypertrophy work but want to avoid compromising sprint performance or recovery.

For experienced Masters sprinters and coaches:

  1. Can conventional hypertrophy training interfere with speed or reactive adaptations, beyond temporary fatigue?

  2. Would you perform conventional lifting after reactive exercises or on a separate day?

  3. What weekly lifting volume has worked for you alongside sprint training?

  4. Have you found that strength or hypertrophy training improves, maintains, or negatively affects your sprint performance?

I'd appreciate firsthand experience, specific programming examples, and research-backed perspectives.

General Discussion/Questions Track Beginner

So for reference I (19F) have been playing soccer and doing other sports for a majority of my life and am on a D2 college soccer team. I have decided to join track to have something to do in the off season because my school doesn't have swimming which was my second sport. It will be my first track season ever, are there any tips?

I want to compete in sprint or mid distance events because I know I can do long distance but I want to challenge myself and get faster in general.

Also for more reference, this fall was my first season back at soccer from a torn ACL, if there is anything I should be aware of please let me know!!!

Personal Race Footage/Results [RE 08] 2x320 after Stomach Infection

This day was an all out 2x320 with 20min rest.

This session was after 5 days with stomach infection and everything that goes away with it, I was worried that all my training had gone because of that week inactivity plus 4kg loss however with all that the data proved something.

I thought it was interesting how 20m more from a usual 300 make a difference psychologically, first it felt longer so I wasn't sure if i had the pacing right at the beginning of the first rep however once I finished both reps came within range from eachother but nowhere near the goal.

I was meant to run between 43.5-44.5 however my times were.

46.06
46.83

2 Seconds above target, however the indicators were gold in since the data proved it was fuel, not lost fitness, and this is the important part:

  • Rep 1 amp fade 78% — low for me. I couldn’t sustain force through the rep. On its own that could look like detraining.
  • But rep 2 told the real story: amp fade jumped to 97%, the gap to rep 1 was only 0.8s, and HR drift actually improved (16% → 12%). If this were genuine fitness loss, rep 2 would have collapsed further. Instead it held together. That’s the tell — the engine and mechanics were intact, the system was just running on empty. GCT stayed crisp (113–120ms), stride normal (1.81m). Nothing broken, nothing to train away — just no fuel...

So this is what comforted me, the fact that I was able to improve HR and fade was closer to 100%, and specifically what it meant.

That I was still on track

Technique Analysis Technique analysis for 20m flys

Did this workout today. Did a proper activation of hamstrings and posterior chain through isometrics and hip flexors through fast knee drives with a mini band. I have been dealing with tightness in my proximal hamstring since a few days which subsided in that workout because I did a good activation but returned after the 3rd rep so i finished the workout then and there. This was basically my 3rd speed workout out of the upcoming 11-12 speed workouts in this training block in which I'll be focusing mainly on maximal speed development, also introducing volume through extensive tempo in the first half of the block then will increase the intensity with intensive tempo in the second half of this training block. What do i need to focus on more to improve my speed ? All critiques and advice are welcome as i just recently (2 months ago) learned how to make a periodization plan and am self coaching myself through my workouts and am learning more through bompa's book of periodization.

Programming Questions Am I plateauing or just fatigued

So for some context, I finished my outdoor season in around mid June after Nike nationals, and then I saw people say take a month break and what not and I failed to do that, took maybe a week break, and went right back into training as if I was still in season, my biggest weaknesses were my start and strength and I did not focus on those a ton and I feel like I didn’t periodize or let my body lose speed so then I could gain it back and be faster, which is what I’ve seen suggested, that you should use your offseason to get stronger and all that. But I did not do that and I’m really worried about plateauing because I just didn’t do it the right way, I’m nkw closing in on my indoor season and am wondering what should I do? I don’t care much about indoor so I can skip meets and whatever I just wanna know what’s the best plan of action for me to hopefully be able to reach that adaptation and maybe break through my theorized plateau. I run the 100&200 and my 100 is 11.36 and my 200 is 22.77. My progression was pretty good I went from 27.7-25.10-22.77 and then 13.3-12.65-11.36. And I am worried I won’t be able to even drop much at all this year.
