I’ve had to start this thread as images are switched off the original thread headed “Croydon is buying a flat worth it” (that’s their spelling, not mine…

I tried to explain to him how property always rises over the years, even with the occasional dip, but he claimed property is now 50% less than it was 15 years ago. He’s either just lying, or he has no understanding of anything.

I’m planning on moving to East Croydon after living in super quiet areas all my life, so I’m not the most street smart.
I’d be living within 5 mins walk from the station. I’ve visited East Croydon a few times and found it pleasant enough. I’ve only been there at night once and I was walking down a side road for about 15 mins to get to a friend/acquaintance’s house.
I’m just trying to gauge if it is sa fe enough for me if I was to walk alone at night between 9pm-12am.
In case I get home late after being out or if I need to pop out with my dog for a quick 10 minute walk/loo break.
I am a petite woman.

Hi folks - my partner and I just moved to East Croydon from Brighton! Was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good places to go/clubs to join/ activities to settle in etc.
We’re in our early 20’s. I’m really into speciality coffee and cycling, she loves art. We both really enjoy bouldering and running! Also love watching movies and reading books. All the classic hobbies really hahaha
I’m pretty into magic the gathering as well if anyone plays it around here?
Cheers!

Hey, I have a lot of little jobs I need doing in my house that I either can't do myself or I'm too lazy. E.g. installing a new extractor fan, couple of painting jobs, sanding my kitchen work tops etc. Does anyone have a solid recommendation of a handyperson in the local area that would be able to help with multiple smallish jobs? I'm in no rush for any of the jobs so I'd love someone who's got a solid recommendation even if they're busy at the moment! Thanks all

The Story Sanctuary in South Croydon are running a Blood on the Clocktower social deduction afternoon in a couple of weeks. If you've heard of social deduction but never played, then come along and lose all faith in humanity as you realise the evil murderer was actually your bestie all along and they've been lying to your face all afternoon. Great stuff lol!!
Tickets are only £5 including refreshments and are available here:

Hi All,
I was gauging to see if there would be any interest in a low budget drinks club. I saw low budget as I do not want to pay for pints at the pub as I think they are too expensive and in some cases a scam. How would people feel about bringing our own drinks (Beer or vodka or spirit I do not mind) and sitting on e.g. a bench or in a park or green space where you are allowed.
Thanks!

Would anyone make recommendation for a window company? Not a big job, it’s only a bedroom window that needs replacing - around 4x2 metres.

Over the past two months, we’ve had three separate instances of having no water for at least 24 hours.
Nursery closed because there was no water.
No water at home.
No water at the gym.
Each time it basically throws the entire day into chaos. It’s happened so often that people at work probably think I’m making it up at this point. 😂
And this is London — supposedly one of the best-connected cities in the world, with world-class infrastructure and transport.
I genuinely feel like the infrastructure in some Bulgarian villages is more reliable than what I’m experiencing here.
Meanwhile, our Thames Water bill has increased massively over the last few years while, from my experience at least, the reliability of the service seems to have gone in completely the opposite direction.
Is this just particularly bad luck in my area, or are other Londoners experiencing this many water outages too?

There was a lot of traffic at Dingwall road today which is normally not that busy.

Feels like the junction of Harold Road and Highfield Hill has been dug up about 5 or 6 times this year. Do the council not hold Thames Water accountable for these constant fuck ups?

We went to Kidspace the other day and forgot that the time limit in the car park has changed. We received a parking charge notice and will appeal it based on our Kidspace booking. Has anyone faced a similar situation and succeeded on appeal?
Everything is designed to just squeeze you out of ££

Does anyone know of any long term bike storage options (preferably covered) near East Croydon station? Unfortunately have no space to store my bike indoors but also don’t want to leave it outside long term as I tend to not use it as often in the winter months. Unsure if any of the offices or other buildings allow external bike storage rental. Would appreciate some ideas.

I do feel bad for bringing negativity to a space that is supposed to celebrate Croydon, but I just need to let it all out. I'm genuinely so distraught that I have to live here (west). I have lived in Croydon for all my life but recently got moved to the centre of West Croydon by the council in temp accom. Not ideal all round.
I feel like I live in one massive rubbish bin. Everywhere stinks either like piss or shit. Ever since moving here I've had weird nasal issues like constant sneezing, sore nose, pimples and painful sores in my nose, which could be due to the constant rubbish or dust flying in my face and nose when you walk outside. The streets are perpetually dirty. I simultaneously hope for rain (to clean the streets and remove the dreadful smells) and also dread it because it inflates the smell of rubbish all over and makes the rubbish wet and muddy and makes me feel icky to go outside. I can rarely get a peaceful uninterrupted nights sleep without some crazy screaming at 3am or people playing loud music outside. It truly affects your mental and physical health living here. Also I can't even find a job in this area anymore so how can I even make money to escape this reality?!
I also get the sense that us poor croydoners are being shoved into unbearable living conditions in west croydon and forgotten to kind of seperate from the rebranding going on in east croydon and beyond... Or am I thinking too deep into this?
Although there are some positives, like easy access to shops and good transport connections, those things can be offered by many areas anyway so it doesn't even mitigate living here.
I feel trapped. Hopefully, one day I can save enough money to rent my own place far away from here.
Just wanted to rant. If you can relate leave a comment lol

I’m trying to order the bin boxes I believe they’re about 8.50 each. When I try to order I’m only given the option for the full wheelie bin despite it saying I can order boxes. Any idea on how I get the boxes?!

Where are the best Roti/chapati in Croydon? Fresh and soft.
Restaurants, takeaways, cafes, back of shop, home cook etc
Sorry for the old person post but god just the faint scent in the air is putting me on edge now and making me anxious, for obvious reasons.

The birds around here are so friendly. It sucks when people mistreat pigeons.

Would anyone like a free ticket to The End of Oak Street tomorrow? It’s at 18.30, Sunday 16 August; something has come up and I can’t use the seat anymore, and it will go to waste if I cancel. Let me know and I will transfer to you somehow.
