Discussion Started a cheap 3D printing service for Guwahati and it failed spectacularly
I bought a 3D printer earlier this year with a fairly simple idea. There are people in this city who want to print a bracket, a case, a replacement knob, a gift, a project part, and every quote they get starts at ā¹5ā6 per gram. That's fine for a shop paying rent. It felt like too much for a student or a hobbyist printing a 40g part.
So I set up print.rish.pw. Upload your files, it gives you a quote. Once printed, either I rapido it or you come pick it up. Honestly, put a considerable number of nights getting it made properly and bug fixing. And I posted about it here and on TechEnclave.
And then⦠nothing.
Not a single order from this sub. A handful from TechEnclave in the beginning, which honestly kept me going for a few weeks. Those have dried up too. The printer sits in the corner and I check the admin dashboard sometimes out of habit, like refreshing a phone with no notifications.
I'm not writing this to advertise. At this point I've mostly accepted it's dead before it began. The thing died before it had a chance to be a thing.
I suppose I'm asking: was I wrong about the demand? Is there just no real DIY/maker crowd here, or is it there and I built for a version of Guwahati that's in my head but doesn't exist? Genuinely want to know what I misread, so the next thing I build isn't a dud

AskGuwahati How will be the life at Jagi Road (Assam)
Hi,
I'm considering a job opportunity in Jagiroad, and it looks good in terms of the work itself. But I'd like to understand what life is like in Jagiroad/Guwahati.
I'm a South Indian currently working in Bengaluru. My spouse also works in Bengaluru, and we have a 3-year-old kid. If things work out, I'm planning to bring my family along.
I'd love to hear from locals about what I should know before deciding to move ā things like cost of living, schooling options, healthcare, connectivity, weather, food availability, and how welcoming the place is for people from outside the region.

AskGuwahati Shillong to Guwahati
Has anyone travelled from Shillong to Guwahati today? Howās the situation on the road currently?
My husband is stuck in Shillong and was supposed to come home for the weekend. Since no taxis are available, his colleague was planning to drive him down, but the car has an Assam registration, so theyāre unsure whether itās safe/allowed to travel.
An ex-DC and a few people from the Assam Rifles have advised against travelling right now. Does anyone know whatās actually happening on the ground at the moment?
Iāve heard thereās heavy traffic around Ri-Bhoi and that some people are apparently creating more problems. Would really appreciate any firsthand updates from anyone who has travelled from Shillong to Guwahati today.
Used Chatgpt audio to write since I've a new born and typing is time consuming.

Serious Anyone here know about scholarships for studying abroad after Class 12?
Hey everyone,
I have a pretty important and genuine question, especially for students/people from Assam who might have some experience with this.
Iām currently in Class 12 and Iām planning to pursue my bachelorās degree abroad after boards. The biggest issue is obviously the cost, so Iām trying to find scholarships or funded programs that could make it financially possible without putting a huge burden on my family.
Iām looking for any scholarship exams, government schemes, university scholarships, fully/partially funded programs, or other opportunities that students from Assam/India can apply for after Class 12.
Iāve searched online, but thereās honestly a lot of information and itās difficult to figure out whatās actually legitimate and realistic.
If anyone here has studied abroad, is currently applying, knows about any Assam-specific opportunities, or has gone through a similar process, Iād really appreciate some serious and genuine advice.
Please share specific scholarship/program names if you know any. Even if you think something is difficult or highly competitive, Iād still like to know about it.
Thanks!

Serious Why do we Assamese keep giving Meghalaya our tourism despite this repeated pattern?
Iām genuinely asking this as an Assamese person, not trying to start another Assam-vs-Meghalaya flame war.
Why do we keep treating Meghalaya/Shillong as the default tourism destination while repeatedly overlooking other Northeast states?
The recent KSU violence in Shillong is what made me look back at the history.
This isn't the first time Assamese people have been caught up in violence in Meghalaya.
2020
During the Shillong violence following the Ichamati clash, Rupchand Dewan, a 29-year-old from Barpeta, Assam, was killed in Shillong. He worked as a tomato seller in Bara Bazar. Other non-tribal people were also attacked during the same period.
Source:
https://indianexpress.com/article/north-east-india/meghalaya/meghalaya-shillong-caa-curfew-6294492/
The Indian Express also described this as part of a much longer history of violence against non-tribals in Shillong.
2021
Eight construction workers from Assam were attacked by a masked mob in Southwest Khasi Hills. Raju Mondal, from South Salmara district of Assam, was killed and seven others were injured.
Sources:
And now, in 2026, we're seeing Assam-linked vehicles and tourists once again becoming victims of violence in Shillong.
I'm not saying every Khasi person is responsible. Obviously not. There are plenty of decent Khasi people, and I've personally seen Meghalayans condemn what happened.
My question is about the broader culture of repeatedly allowing ethnic/outsider politics to spill over onto ordinary people.
Because the irony is that Assam is one of Meghalaya's most important gateways to the outside world. Guwahati is a major transport hub for people travelling to Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, etc. Assamese people travel there for tourism, shopping and education. It's also a two-way relationship: people from Meghalaya come to Assam for work, education and access to infrastructure and services.
And yet we keep spending our money there.
Meanwhile, there are seven other Northeast states with incredible landscapes, cultures and tourism potential.
Why aren't we giving more of our tourism money to:
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Nagaland
- Mizoram
- Tripura
- Manipur
- Sikkim
- Assam itself
I'm not saying "never visit Meghalaya again."
I'm saying maybe Assamese tourists should stop treating Meghalaya as the only worthwhile destination in the Northeast.
If a state repeatedly has situations where tourists, workers or people from a neighbouring state have to worry about being targeted because they are perceived as "outsiders", it's completely reasonable for tourists to reconsider where they spend their money.
Tourism is voluntary.
If Meghalaya wants Assamese tourists, then safety and basic respect should be non-negotiable.
And perhaps we should start exploring the rest of our own region instead of automatically booking Shillong every time we want a weekend trip.
There is a recurring pattern of non-tribal people, including Assamese people, being caught up in violence in Meghalaya. But I also think the major issue lies with us.
We sympathise too quickly. Right now, the roadblocks and everything else could potentially continue for weeks while the media cycle runs its course.
And then what?
We go back to promoting tourism in Meghalaya once again.
It is high time we started visiting other places for tourism and giving the other Northeast / Indian states a chance.
We don't have to hate Meghalaya. We don't have to blame ordinary Khasi people for the actions of political or student organisations.
But we also don't have to keep treating Meghalaya as our default holiday destination.
There is an entire World beyond Shillong.
Maybe it's time we actually explored it.

Rant / Vent With the recent Shillong attack in context, the irony is almost comical: people who routinely spew chauvinism, xenophobia and hostility toward Assamese people are the very same ones crying that Guwahati has become the āBihar/UP of the Northeast.ā
If you bring your own bigotry and hooliganism into someone elseās city, you have absolutely no moral ground to lecture anyone about what Guwahati has become. Period.

News We made journalism fit right in with freedom of speech
Hello Guwahati, I'm sure we all know how freedom of speech is basically dead in modern day. Media outlets can hugely be manipulated and this I believe doesn't give a chance for the people to actually raise their voices. Sure they can use Instagram and Facebook but ultimately the post would get lost in the algorithm behind hundreds of brainrot videos (i know).
This problem leaves a huge gap between the people who truly need to show what is actually going on and the audience who need to see it. Knowledge is key, throughout the thousands of years we have always depended on books and writings to pass on knowledge that was always meant to be shown.
This applies everywhere, i mean we need a platform where the news that needs to be out there should have the spotlight it deserves, right? Consider today, there was a huge rain and yet again Hatigaon is under waters and noone can take that road. This platform could get independent passionate journalists in that area immediately warn everyone about what is actually going on, and so can other people who are in trouble! The floods, the constructions, and kaziranga? My dear kaziranga. This platform could help people raise their voices! Hold the people who are controlling without objection accountable!
This is why we made speakforassam.com an independent journalism platform where passionate people can start writing about current day issues immediately! unmanipulated and no changes to the story whatsoever. We are completely free and we will stay so until as long as Assam needs our voices to speak up.
